A Nation Mourns: Remembering Charlie Kirk After a Devastating Loss That Shook America

In the wake of an unthinkable tragedy, a close friend and colleague shares a raw, unfiltered tribute to Charlie Kirk. Speaking in the early hours of September 11th, 2025, she reflects on the loss of a mentor, friend, and father who transformed a generation of young conservatives through Turning Point USA. This emotional testimony captures the weight of political violence, the fear now gripping conservative voices, and the determination to continue his legacy. Charlie Kirk's impact on American youth, his tireless work ethic traveling the world to proclaim truth, and his unwavering Christian faith are honored in this deeply personal remembrance. As the nation grapples with attacks from within rather than outside threats, this tribute asks the difficult question: where do we go from here when speaking truth becomes life-threatening?

September 11, 2025

An Attack From Within

There are very few things in life that shake someone to their core like the events of this past week. Speaking in the middle of the night on September 11th, 2025, without makeup and unable to sleep, the weight of what has happened feels almost unbearable. While September 11th, 2001 was an attack from outside our borders that claimed nearly 3,000 lives, this September 11th feels like an attack from within. Millions have suffered and died because of destructive policies and rhetoric over recent years, but what happened this week feels like a culmination, a climax of something deeply wrong in America.

The Loss of Charlie Kirk

Charlie Kirk, a friend, mentor, and intellectual genius, has been taken. His generational talent and impact through Turning Point USA transformed a nation and revived a culture of young people. He revolutionized young patriots and Christians across America. His wife Erika lost her husband, facing her greatest fear. Two young children lost their father, and they will be haunted forever by videos that cannot be scrubbed from social media. These videos will live on while some of their fond memories may fade. This nation has lost the best and most effective, most influential activist it has ever had, on both sides of the political spectrum.

Charlie had a work ethic unlike anyone else. There was no complaining when you were around him. He traveled not just the nation but the world—South Korea one week, Oxford in the UK a few weeks before. This was a man who traveled the world to proclaim the name of the Lord and speak truth about ideology, about what is harmful and what makes a nation prosperous.

Living in Fear

With no information on the killer, the political assassin who roams free, fear has become real. While there's usually a sense of being invincible, bulletproof even, watching what happened to Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania was hard but almost expected for someone who had been and would be president. Lunatics, evil soulless ghouls, can be expected to target such figures. But Charlie Kirk? This is different.

Thousands of texts have arrived in the past 24 hours telling people to be vigilant, aware, safe, to not leave their homes. The threats received are real. We don't have to live like this. We shouldn't have to live in fear of speaking the truth raw and unfiltered—things like men and women are different, that borders are necessary for a nation, that crime is bad, citing statistics.

The Violence on Campuses

Going to campuses—high school and college campuses—to speak, engage with, and mobilize youth was what Charlie Kirk did better than anyone. After being on about a hundred different campuses, the violence and vitriol from the other side is real. At San Francisco State University, where one was held hostage, it could have been any one of those present. What happened to Charlie could have happened to anyone who would have been there with him if not for being far along in pregnancy.

Where Do We Go From Here?

This is not a rhetorical question but a genuine one. Our society is sick and broken. Truth is so hated. How do you coexist with a group of people who genuinely want to and will kill you for disagreeing with them politically? That's precisely what happened to Charlie Kirk. They killed a man—a father, a husband, a Christian with two young kids, leaving his wife widowed. Erika, one of the most amazing women, was texting the morning of asking about baby and pregnancy, asking for an address to likely send a gift. They did this to him because they disagreed with him politically.

They knew there was no one like Charlie Kirk on either side. They knew they had to get him. If they couldn't get Trump, which they tried, the next best thing was Charlie Kirk. Everyone knew it. If you spent any amount of time with Charlie in person, you knew without doubt that he would become president one day. That's how intelligent, personable, authentic and genuine he was. He knew everything on every topic.

The Devil's Work

This is the devil. He is real, alive, and walks this earth. He has his claws in the minds of so many. The enemy is hard at work. The response seen on TikTok and X, the comments from the deranged—they don't feel like people. People have souls, but these ghouls celebrating this tragedy don't seem to have them.

This has left many entirely at the feet of Jesus, surrendering everything, asking what needs to be done. What can be done as a Christian, as someone who cares deeply about this nation, as a woman who is a wife about to bring life into this world? Evil will not have the final word. One day, hopefully soon, God will make everything right. But until then, we pray, weep with his family, mourn with them, grieve with them, love them, and keep fighting, knowing that victory in the end has already been won.

The cultural battles and war on woke have seen wins, but they don't matter much because the eternal war has already been won. What keeps one grounded is knowing that Charlie knew Jesus, that he was a man who fought for the hope and promise of eternal life. Nothing of this world mattered to Charlie. Of course he loved his family and this nation and truth, but he was fighting for eternal life.

Take Up the Cross

The message to everyone is to take up the cross, to live a life like Charlie Kirk did, to live a Christlike life. Verses that come to mind include Ephesians 5:11: "Take no part in the evil works of darkness, but instead expose them." That's the embodiment of Charlie Kirk. He did nothing other than sit at a table on these college campuses and simply ask people to prove him wrong. What better place to do it than these institutes of higher education where intellectual debate should be encouraged, not stifled or shot down?

Another verse is Matthew 10:28, which was quoted on Sean Hannity just yesterday. The sheer weight of evil has been heavy across this nation and world these past few days. This transcends borders. It could have been any one of us. They killed Charlie because he put himself out there, willing to go into the belly of the beast, something not many are willing to do. He put himself in front of cameras and spoke into microphones. That's why they got him—because he was out there. But they killed him for his views that millions hold. It could have been any single one of us.

Charlie's Profound Legacy

Charlie has done more for this generation than anyone in a lifetime as it pertains to the political, social, and cultural war. He created so many first-time MAGA voters, and his goal was to turn those first-time voters following the 2024 election into lifelong conservatives. He made MAGA cool. Donald Trump would not be president without Charlie Kirk. That's how profound his impact has been.

We live in a time where things constantly move forward. Trump moves with efficiency. There's a new headline every single day. We can't even get to newsworthy breaking things because there's so much going on. Charlie and his legacy cannot be overlooked. It's almost inevitable when there's so much good and bad happening. When the story broke and news was watched, it brought to mind the Tesla fire bomb that had been forgotten because we are inundated with stories of tragedies.

This past week, the weight of evil has been immense. The beautiful young innocent Ukrainian refugee who lost her life on public transportation had nothing she could have done to prevent that. A minute and a half after sitting down, she was dead. No forewarning, no amount of situational awareness could have prepared her. Even carrying a concealed firearm, which women should do—legally purchasing, practicing, being confident in handling, understanding mechanisms, knowing what to do in stressful situations—wouldn't have helped her. A gun wouldn't have helped that woman. This week feels like too much to bear.

No More Conversations

Campuses are scheduled throughout the fall, some that were supposed to be with Charlie. The picture in mind is Trump standing up with fists in the air saying "fight," but today is a dark day. People on the other side are saying now is the time for conversation, for discussion. But you don't get to say that anymore because they killed the guy who did that. They killed the guy who had conversations, who wanted to discuss things.

The virtue signaling seen on the House floor will forever be one of the most despicable acts lacking decorum and human decency. Lauren Boebert stood up yesterday and asked for a moment of prayer for Charlie after learning of this incident. Democrats like Jasmine Crockett could be visibly heard screeching, "No, no, we're not going to pray for him." Remember what happened in Minnesota weeks ago where a trans shooter took the lives of children and then cowardly took his own life. Democratic elected officials like Gavin Newsom, the mayor of Minneapolis, and Jen Psaki condemned prayer, saying prayer is not enough, to stop the prayers.

While understanding the sentiment of needing action, which we have seen from the Trump administration investigating how SSRIs and anti-depressants link to violence, the answer isn't to get rid of guns. Charlie Kirk would tell you the exact same thing.

Fly Your Flag High

God bless our first responders, US military members, service members, and people on the front lines. The message to all Americans is to invest in a flag. Spend a couple hundred dollars on a 25-foot flag pole to stand out in front of your house, planted and standing tall and proud. Every American whose heart beats for this nation, for God, for truth should buy a flag pole, put it out front, and fly it high. It was hard pulling the flag to half-mast where it will stay until the 14th as ordered, but that's what should be done. Watch the response from neighbors. Get a glimpse of who feels offended or hurt or victimized by flying a flag.

A Prayer and a Vow

Prayers are with Charlie's family and his kids. Lord, you are near to the brokenhearted. Wrap your arms around the people who watched Charlie, who knew him, who loved him. Comfort them, provide them with strength in ways that words cannot. Ease their pain with your presence. Charlie, your body may be without a pulse and cold to the touch, but your soul lives on.

Millions vow to continue your legacy. It's fitting that your organization is named Turning Point, because that's exactly what this is—a turning point for this nation and personally for so many. Surrendered at the feet of Jesus, the fight continues. It didn't feel right to continue without addressing what a dear friend, mentor, and person to go to for political, relational, and spiritual guidance meant. He knew everything and could be gone to for any advice or guidance needed. Lord be with us.
