Charlie Kirk Explains Why College Campuses Are the Frontline of America's Culture War

Categories: Speeches
July 17, 2019

Charlie Kirk shares his journey from an 18-year-old kid from Chicago with no money and no connections to leading Turning Point USA across 1,400 college and high school campuses. Speaking in Denver, Kirk argues that the radical ideas taking over Congress don't originate in Washington, they're taught on college campuses by professors who harbor bitterness toward America. He confronts the rise of socialism among young people, questioning how a generation living in the greatest economy in American history could embrace an ideology that has failed everywhere it's been tried. Kirk challenges conservatives to fight for every inch of cultural ground, insisting that students aren't opposed to conservative ideas, they've simply never been exposed to them.

From Chicago to Leading America's Largest Conservative Student Movement

It's amazing to be here in Denver, Colorado. Originally, I'm from Illinois. The fun thing about Illinois is we have term limits—a little bit different than most states. It's one term in office, one term in jail. So when we ask for our governor's cell number, we actually mean his cell number. My grandmother was a lifelong Republican who passed away in the mid-1990s, and she's been voting Democrat ever since.

You might wonder how a kid from Chicago got started on this journey. I'm honored to run the nation's largest conservative student organization, Turning Point USA, on over 1,400 college and high school campuses across the country. I started this from the suburbs of Chicago with no money, no connections, and no idea what I was doing. Only in America could an 18-year-old kid with limitless ambition and a work ethic but no money, no connections, and no idea what he's doing succeed. Only in America is that story possible.

Seven years later, it's just been the most amazing journey, and we've made some unbelievable, significant progress on high school and college campuses. But despite the progress, I'm going to tell you right now—the fight has just begun on these campuses.

The Battle for America's Future Happens on College Campuses

There are so many important fights. Tom Fitton is a total American hero fighting in the courts. He does so much at Judicial Watch—all these subpoenas. We would not have half the information if it wasn't for Tom Fitton, and that's an amazing fight. Whether it be the text messages from the lovers or all the Hillary Clinton emails, all that stuff—Tom Fitton is a total hero.

But the fight that I have focused my short career on, and the fight that I'm imploring all of you to focus on, is the fight on college campuses for the future of our culture, country, and the soul of this country. Because if we're really serious about where these bad ideas come from, we have to look at the originating source. And it actually starts earlier than college—it starts in high schools, starts in grade schools, starts at school boards, starts at the textbook level. And by the way, that's why I'm such a big fan of homeschooling. Homeschooling gets all this bad rap, but if it was up to me, millions more people should homeschool their kids.

If we're honest with ourselves, we have to admit that whatever happens on college campuses will soon happen in the halls of Congress. All these radicals that you see in Washington, DC—a couple years ago I spoke at this very convention and I made a conjecture. I said soon there will be someone who goes to DC, someone who gets elected to Congress who's quite clueless, very loud, very radical, probably a minority, very leftist, constantly wrong but never in doubt, and dedicates their entire career to trying to refashion the most horrific idea of the last 100 years, which is socialism, neo-Marxism, or whatever you want to call it. And now we have an entire fleet of Congress people that believe these ideas.

The Ingratitude of Radical Congresswomen

Wouldn't it hurt Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to say one nice thing about America? Just say one nice thing about America. Ilhan Omar—only America would have shown the generosity that you were able to benefit from, Ilhan Omar. And then you have the wherewithal and gall to say America's a horrible place, America is an unequal society. America made her life possible. She was a refugee from war-torn Somalia. She was in a refugee camp, and our generosity and our benevolence brought in Ilhan Omar and her entire family, educated her. She ran for Congress and she won. And then she goes to Washington, DC, and says America's a very unjust place.

America is the only country in the history of the world that would take Congresswoman Ilhan Omar with open arms. No other country would do that. And then she has the gumption, she has the brazenness to say that we're an unjust country. But where did these ideas come from? They come from college campuses. They come directly from the indoctrination centers that are happening on universities all across the country.

If we are serious about shaping and re-winning the culture war—which I really believe that's what this is, this is a culture war for the future and the soul of our country—it happens directly on the college campuses across this country.

Students Aren't Opposed to Conservative Ideas—They're Not Exposed to Them

I find more times than not students are not opposed to our ideas—they're not exposed to them at all in the first place. Students have never heard the ideas that America is the greatest country ever to exist in the history of the world, that free-market capitalism is the most moral, proven, effective economic system ever discovered, or that America was founded on Judeo-Christian values and that religious freedom is fundamental to any functioning civil society, or the fact that America was founded on three core ideas—the American Trinity of E Pluribus Unum, In God We Trust, and liberty.

These ideas are not being taught in universities. Instead, hatred for our country is being taught at universities by people who hate this country, professors that are not thankful to be here. Instead, they're angry that they live in America. They're bitter that they live in America.

If I had to sum up the entire left wing of this country: they're bitter. How could you possibly be bitter that you live in this country at this time with this prosperity and this opportunity, this safety, this president, for God's sakes? You could only be bitter if you have an internal struggle going on with yourself. And these bitter people are trying to then make all of our lives simultaneously miserable because their lives are miserable.

I'm sorry, but I'm actually quite thankful I live in America. I'm happy that I live in America. In fact, I thank God every single day that we're able to live in this experiment, in this country, with the freedoms that we're able to enjoy, with the choices we're able to make. And guess what? This American experiment that we're all enjoying can disappear like this—one generation. This thing can be lost.

The Dangerous Embrace of Socialism

Right now, the younger generation, most of the next generation, believes that socialism is a viable alternative to capitalism. How does that happen? No logical, rational person could exist in a free-market system and come to that conclusion. This is taught. These bad ideas are instructed. They are taught to the next generation. They're taught to our peers. And this is exactly the challenge that we're bringing every single day at Turning Point USA.

Now you see the entire left wing of this country embracing these ideas where you have every single person raising their hand on that debate stage: sure, I want to give free healthcare, free medical, free carnivals. How do I describe the left wing? It's a Marxist circus. That's what it is. It's a Marxist circus. It's completely out of control. What have they not promised? Is there anything that they will not promise? But they're very quick to promise other people's money, isn't that interesting? It's very easy to be generous with other people's money.

Bernie Sanders: Honeymooning in the Soviet Union

Bernie Sanders—I either call him Bolshevik Bernie or Breadline Bernie Sanders, I can't figure out which one is better—he actually honeymooned in the Soviet Union. Could you imagine that? Could you imagine getting married, it's the best time of your life, and you turn to your spouse and say, "Where do you want to go? Cancun? Fiji?" "Yeah, Stalingrad is nice this time." Who does that? And then you actually go. I mean, that's the other thing—you might propose the idea as a joke, and then you actually book the tickets.

And then what's even more horrifying is Senator Bernie Sanders goes, and then he actually saw what was happening. And this is so important—this tells you everything you need to know about socialists and the left wing in this country. He saw the suffering. He saw the poverty. He saw the famine. He saw the unbelievable inequality. He saw the lack of opportunity in the Soviet Union, and he was perfectly okay with all that. But he saw something that he really wanted. You know what he saw? How much power the elites had.

He has very little skill, Bernie Sanders. He's very little to no skill. He could not do anything except politics. He is a professional demagogue. He's really, really good at it. In fact, he's amazing at misrepresenting issues. Our generation goes crazy: "Oh my goodness, Bernie Sanders is the greatest thing ever." I look at it like, this guy is going to take all of your money away, all of your freedom. He'll destroy our country from within. What has this guy ever accomplished in his life besides successfully honeymooning in the Soviet Union and being a 20-year socialist member of Congress? We're supposed to hold this guy up as some sort of banner waver?

Socialism Has Failed Everywhere It's Been Tried

All his ideas are new, they've never been tried before? Excuse me, socialism has been tried a hundred times over the last 100 years, resulting in the death of 100 million people on every continent, in every civilization, every culture it's ever come in contact with—from Venezuela to Cuba to Korea to Afghanistan to all of Eastern Europe to basically all of Southeast Asia. It destroyed China. It's still destroying North Korea to this day.

Where exactly are these ideas working, Senator Sanders? If they were working so well, why is the caravan going north to America, not south to Venezuela? If socialism worked so well, why are people fleeing Cuba for Florida, but they're not fleeing Florida for Cuba? If socialism worked so well, why are the guns only pointed in one direction? If socialism works so well, why wasn't there a problem with people fleeing West Germany? If socialism works so well, why did Europe become more like West Germany, not more like East Germany?

If socialism works so well, why is it that people have to flee it in order to survive? And most importantly, Senator Sanders, if socialism works so well, why is it that every single human being that actually has lived under it does everything they possibly can to fight against it and to get out of it?

The Real Appeal of Socialism: Power for Elites

What's the one common denominator of every single time that this experiment has been tried? The amount of power that is given to people that would otherwise not have that power. You want to make yourself really important to society? Run for office. You're the most important person in the country—not the philanthropists, not the church leaders, not the community members, not the civic leaders, not the thought leaders, not the authors, not the religious scholars.

In a free society like America, those people are the most important people in our society—the authors, the writers, the creators, the entrepreneurs, the businesspeople. In a socialist society, they'll destroy the church. They'll run over faith institutions. Creative writing is not allowed. Dissent against the state? The most important people are the Politburo. It's the elites that know better. It's the Green New Deal people. It's the Cass Sunstein elites that if you just give them enough power, they'll solve the next problem for you. And boy, is that rooted in hubris, and is that rooted in pride.

This is the divide that is happening so distinctly right now in Western civilization. And what is so horrifying is usually these movements of radical socialism happen in times of despair and depression. We are living in the greatest economy in American history, and we're trying to create ways to destroy it. Never before has a country wanted to put themselves out of prosperity as much as the left wing in this country.

The Left Is Selling Despair in the Best Economy Ever

Not only that, they're trying to sell despair: "No, no, things actually aren't that good." Forget the lowest-ever black unemployment rate. Forget the lowest-ever Hispanic unemployment rate. Forget the lowest-ever Asian American unemployment. Forget the lowest women unemployment rate in 60 years. Forget the lowest youth unemployment rate in 50 years. Forget 4% GDP growth. Forget the best stock market ever in the history of our country. Forget the fact that the stock market had its best June in 88 years. Definitely forget the fact that black poverty rate is at an all-time low. Don't even look at the fact that ten million black Americans are now off food stamps in this country. Please don't look at the fact that black America has a 400% increase in entrepreneurship and small business rates.

Instead, things are horrible because Trump said mean stuff. Oh really? That's why things are horrible? Because Trump said mean stuff? Really?

President Trump's Unprecedented Successes

ISIS is destroyed. We're finally adding peace on the Korean Peninsula. The Iranian radicals are finally held in check. The embassy is in Jerusalem. The Golan Heights is recognized. The PA is getting defunded. Finally, our allies have to pay for our military defending them for free for the last 40 years, which is one of the most ridiculous things we've had to do. Our allies respect us. Our enemies fear us.

And yet we have to hear this entire thing that Donald Trump is the worst. Your former governor—I can't believe this guy. He says, "Well, socialism is not the answer," and I agree with that. And then he goes on: "Donald Trump's the worst president in American history." Oh really, Governor Hickenlooper? He's really the worst? He's the worst president in American history? Worse than Andrew Johnson, who was impeached and literally stole money from the United States Treasury? Worse than some of the presidents that were in wide disgrace? Somehow he's worse than that?

You look at this and you say, "Oh my goodness, they're not afraid that he's going to fail—they're horrified that he's succeeded." They are scared to death that he's succeeding because if he now is able to say, "I have done what I said I'm going to do," never before has a politician in this country been attacked for doing what he said he's going to do.

A President Who Keeps His Promises

We're so used to saying one thing and another: "Read my lips, no new taxes"—Republicans said that. "I did not have sexual relations"—that was Bill Clinton. George W. Bush: weapons of mass destruction. Barack Obama: "You like this doctor, you can keep." We're so used to politicians saying one thing and another. But then all of a sudden we have a leader who says: Embassy moved? Yes. All the other guys said this. ISIS destroyed? Yes. Trade deals renegotiated? Yes. The only thing that he has said is, "I know you were sick of winning." I mean, all these victories after victories.

And let us not forget, we have Gorsuch, we have Kavanaugh, we are knocking on the door of 150 Circuit Court judges—nearly half of all the judges in this country replaced by this administration. And yet we have to sit through an entire political apparatus that is trying to convince us that things are bad.

When things are bad, you don't need to be told things are bad. In 2008, when a lot of you were going through hard times—and I know my family was going through hard times—did you need some demagoguing politician to tell you things were bad? No. You knew things were bad, thank you very much. You don't need a two-hour infomercial on why this is the crisis of democracy.

I have to hear one more time: "an existential threat to this country." You know who's an existential threat to this country? The left is an existential threat to this country, thank you very much.

The Fight for Every Inch of Ground

I'm bringing this fight to college campuses across the country, and I'm telling you right now—they're not going to give us our country back. They're not. We have to fight for every single inch. And God bless this president for doing what he is doing to deliver the promises. But I'm telling you right now, everything that I just recited, all these successes—most young people have never even heard this. They're being told by their professors that this is the rise of the worst thing that we've ever seen, that there's kids in cages.

No, actually, kids in cages were under Barack Obama. I don't remember the protests. I don't remember any of this stuff. They can't find a picture from this administration of kids in cages. All the pictures they have to use are back from 2014 with President Barack Obama.

Our Obligation and Opportunity

We have an obligation and we have an opportunity. The opportunity is that we can win this generation over around these ideas in a way that will make historians' heads spin. And the obligation is: what a gift we've all been given. I love seeing all the red, white, and blue. I mean, would it hurt the Democrats to put a flag up on stage? I mean, would it really hurt them to do that? By the way, it's as if the idea of America has now become a partisan idea.

We have a July 4th celebration: "Oh, he wants to take over the country." Really? With Sherman tanks from the 1940s? That's how he's gonna do it? Really? On July 4th? That's his big Machiavellian plan? He's gonna roll the tanks—four of them—he has four tanks from the 1940s, and he's going to roll them and invade Northern Virginia? This is what we're supposed to believe?

The obligation: we've been given this unbelievable gift. And all of you, there's something all of you can do. You can fight for every single inch. It's not always easy, I understand that. For the conservative students out there, Turning Point USA and otherwise, I know your grades are getting lowered. I know your professors are coming after you. I know that you're losing friends over this. I know there's social media posts about it.

How many of you have been silenced by social media companies in one way or the other? And they say that it doesn't exist. I know that your voices are being stunted on Google and Facebook and all these other places. I understand that. But we have an obligation, we really do. And it's the people that understand the gift, that are thankful for the gift, and fight for the gift that are going to be able to preserve and protect this unbelievable treasure we have been given by God for my generation and future generations.

[00:16] thank you thank you guys so much it's

[00:20] amazing to be here in Denver Colorado

[00:23] originally I'm from Illinois anyone from

[00:27] Illinois out there yeah I'm sorry

[00:29] see the fun thing about Illinois is we

[00:32] have term limits a little bit different

[00:33] than most states it's one term in office

[00:35] one term in jail so when we ask for our

[00:40] governor's cell number we actually mean

[00:47] his cell number my grandmother was a

[00:50] lifelong Republican passed away in the

[00:52] mid 1990s and she's been voting Democrat

[00:55] ever since so you might wonder how a kid

[01:04] from Chicago got started on this journey

[01:06] so I'm honored to to run the nation's

[01:09] largest conservative student

[01:11] organization Turning Point USA and over

[01:14] 1400 thank you

[01:15] 1,400 college and high school campuses

[01:18] across the country started this from the

[01:21] suburbs of Chicago with no money no

[01:23] connections and no idea what I was doing

[01:25] and only in America could an 18 year old

[01:29] kid with limitless ambition and a work

[01:32] ethic and no money no connections no

[01:35] idea is doing succeed

[01:37] only in America is that story possible

[01:38] and

[01:41] [Applause]

[01:42] seven years later it's just been the

[01:44] most amazing journey and we've made some

[01:47] unbelievable significant progress on

[01:49] high school and college campuses but

[01:51] despite the progress I'm gonna tell you

[01:52] right now the fight has just begun on

[01:56] these campuses you know there's so many

[01:58] important fights tom Fitton is a total

[02:00] American Hero fighting in the courts I

[02:01] mean he does so much that Judicial Watch

[02:04] all these subpoenas I mean we would not

[02:06] have half the information if it wasn't

[02:08] for tom Fitton and that's an amazing

[02:09] fight it really is I mean whether it be

[02:14] the text messages from the lovers or all

[02:16] the Hillary Clinton emails all that

[02:17] stuff tom Fitton 'he's a total hero but

[02:20] the fight that i have focused my short

[02:23] career on and the fight that I'm pouring

[02:25] all of you to focus on is the fight on

[02:30] college campuses for the future of our

[02:32] culture country in the soul of this

[02:34] country because if we're really serious

[02:36] about where these bad ideas come from we

[02:40] have to look at the originating source

[02:42] and actually even starts earlier than

[02:43] college starts in high schools starts in

[02:45] grade schools starts at school boards

[02:48] starts at the textbook level and by the

[02:51] way that's why I'm such a big fan of

[02:52] homeschooling I mean homeschooling gets

[02:54] all this bad rap

[02:55] right I mean homeschooling if it was up

[02:57] for me out millions of more people

[02:59] should homeschool their kids and and so

[03:02] if we're honest with ourselves we have

[03:05] to admit that whatever happens on

[03:07] college campuses will soon happen in the

[03:09] halls of Congress that all these

[03:12] radicals that you see in Washington DC

[03:14] you know a couple years ago I spoke at

[03:16] this very convention and I made a guess

[03:19] I made a conjecture and I said soon

[03:21] there will be someone who goes to DC

[03:24] someone who gets elected to Congress was

[03:28] quite clueless

[03:31] very loud very radical probably a

[03:37] minority very leftist constantly wrong

[03:41] but never in doubt and dedicates their

[03:47] entire career at trying to refashion the

[03:50] most horrific idea of the last 100 years

[03:52] which is socialism neo-marxist and

[03:54] whatever you want to call it and now we

[03:56] have an entire fleet of Congress people

[03:58] that believe these ideas I mean wouldn't

[04:01] would it hurt alexandria kasnia cortez

[04:03] to say one nice thing about america you

[04:06] just say one nice thing about America

[04:07] Alon Omar Alon Omar only America would

[04:12] have shown the generosity that you were

[04:13] able to benefit from Elon omar and then

[04:15] you have the wherewithal and gall to say

[04:18] Oh America's a horrible place America is

[04:20] an unequal Society America made her life

[04:24] possible she was a refugee from war-torn

[04:27] Somalia she was in a refugee camp and

[04:29] our generosity and our benevolence

[04:31] brought in Alon Omar and her entire

[04:33] family educated her she ran for Congress

[04:37] and she won and then she goes to

[04:38] Washington DC in America's a very unjust

[04:40] place America is the only country in the

[04:43] history of the world that would take

[04:44] congresswoman elon Omar with open arms

[04:48] no other country would do that and then

[04:50] she has the gumption and she has for

[04:53] what the brazenness to say that we're an

[04:55] unjust country but where did these ideas

[04:57] come from they come from college

[04:59] campuses they come directly from the

[05:01] indoctrination centers that are

[05:03] happening on universities all across the

[05:05] country and if we are serious about

[05:08] shaping and re winning the culture war

[05:10] which I really believe that's what this

[05:11] is this is a culture war for the future

[05:13] in the soul of our country it happens

[05:15] directly on the college campuses across

[05:17] this country right on the college

[05:19] campuses and I find more times than not

[05:23] students are not opposed to our ideas is

[05:26] that they're not exposed to them at all

[05:27] in the first place

[05:28] it's that students have never heard the

[05:30] ideas that America is the greatest

[05:31] country ever to exist in the history of

[05:33] the world that free market capitalism is

[05:35] the most moral proven effective economic

[05:37] system ever discovered that's right I

[05:39] love my free-market people right we love

[05:41] the free market or that America was

[05:43] founded on judeo-christian

[05:45] struct and that religious freedom is

[05:46] fundamental to any functioning civil

[05:48] society or the fact that America was

[05:51] founded on three core ideas the American

[05:53] Trinity of yerba sonam In God We Trust

[05:55] and liberty these ideas are not being

[05:57] taught in universities instead hatred

[06:00] for our country is being taught at

[06:02] universities by people who hate this

[06:04] country

[06:04] professors that are not thankful to be

[06:07] here and said they're angry that they

[06:08] live in America they're bitter that they

[06:10] live in America if I had to sum up the

[06:12] entire left wing of this country they're

[06:14] bitter how could you possibly be bitter

[06:17] that you live in this country at this

[06:19] time with this prosperity and this

[06:20] opportunity this safety this president

[06:22] for God's sakes oh my goodness you could

[06:24] only be bitter if you have an internal

[06:26] struggle going on with yourself oh my

[06:28] goodness and these bitter people are

[06:30] trying to then make all of our lives

[06:33] simultaneously miserable because their

[06:35] lives are miserable and I'm sorry think

[06:38] I'm actually quite thankful I live in

[06:41] America I'm happy that I live in America

[06:43] in fact I think God every single day

[06:46] that we're able to live in this

[06:47] experiment in this country with the

[06:48] freedoms that were able to enjoy with

[06:50] the choices were able to make and guess

[06:52] what this American experiment that we're

[06:54] all enjoying can disappear like this one

[06:57] generation this thing can can be lost

[06:59] right now the younger generation most of

[07:02] the next generation believes that

[07:03] socialism is about alternative than

[07:05] capitalism how does that happen no

[07:08] logical rational person could exist in a

[07:10] free market system and come that

[07:11] conclusion this is taught these bad

[07:14] ideas are instructed they are taught to

[07:16] the next generation

[07:17] they're taught to our peers and this is

[07:19] exactly the challenge that we're

[07:20] bringing every single day at Turning

[07:22] Point USA and now you see the entire

[07:24] left wing of this country embracing

[07:26] these ideas where you have every single

[07:28] person raising their hand on that debate

[07:29] stage sure I want to give free up free

[07:32] healthcare free medical free carnivals

[07:34] you know what how you know I described

[07:35] the left wing it's a Marxist circus

[07:38] that's what it is it's a Marxist circus

[07:40] I mean it's completely out of control

[07:42] what have they not promised is there

[07:43] anything that they will not promise but

[07:45] they're very quick to promise other

[07:47] people's money isn't that interesting

[07:48] it's very easy to be generous with other

[07:51] people's money it's extremely easy to be

[07:53] generous other people's not me that has

[07:54] to pay more in taxes you know Bernie

[07:56] Sanders I either call him Bolshevik

[07:58] Bernice and

[07:59] of breadline Bernie Sanders I can't

[08:00] figure out which one is better he

[08:02] actually honeymoon in the Soviet Soviet

[08:04] Union could you imagine that

[08:05] could you imagine honeymooning in the

[08:06] Soviet Union if you imagine getting

[08:08] married it's the best time of your life

[08:09] and you turn to your you know your what

[08:11] oh where do you want to go Cancun Fiji

[08:15] yeah you're Stalingrad is nice this time

[08:17] you know who does that and then you

[08:21] actually go I mean that's the other

[08:22] thing you might propose the idea as a

[08:24] joke and then you actually book the

[08:25] tickets and then what's even more

[08:29] horrifying is senator Bernie Sanders he

[08:31] goes and then he actually saw what was

[08:33] happening and this is so important this

[08:35] tells you everything you need to know

[08:36] about socialist and the left-wing in

[08:37] this country is that he saw the

[08:40] suffering he saw the poverty he saw the

[08:42] famine he saw the unbelievable

[08:45] inequality he saw the lack of

[08:46] opportunity in the Soviet Union and he

[08:49] was perfectly okay with all that but he

[08:51] saw something that he really wanted you

[08:52] know what he saw how much power the

[08:54] elites had and he has very little skill

[08:57] Bernie Sanders is very little to no

[08:59] skill he could not do anything except

[09:01] politics he is a professional he's

[09:03] professional demagogue he's really

[09:05] really good at it

[09:05] in fact he's amazing at misrepresenting

[09:08] issues I mean our generation they go

[09:09] crazy oh my goodness Bernie Sanders is

[09:11] the greatest thing ever I look at like

[09:13] this guy he first of all he's gonna take

[09:15] all of your money away all of your

[09:17] freedom he'll destroy our country from

[09:18] within what does this guy ever

[09:19] accomplished in his life I mean besides

[09:22] successfully honeymooning in the Soviet

[09:24] Union and being a 20 year you know

[09:27] socialist member of Congress were

[09:29] supposed to hold this guy up as some

[09:30] sort of banner waiver well all his ideas

[09:32] are new they've never been tried before

[09:33] excuse me socialism has been tried a

[09:36] hundred times over the last 100 years

[09:38] resulting the death of 100 million

[09:40] people on every continent in every

[09:42] civilization every culture it's ever

[09:44] come in contact with from Venezuela to

[09:46] Cuba to Korea to Afghanistan to all of

[09:49] Eastern Europe to basically all of

[09:50] Southeast Asia

[09:51] it destroyed China to still destroying

[09:53] North Korea to this day where exactly

[09:55] are these ideas working senator Sanders

[09:57] if they were working so well why is the

[09:59] caravan going north to America not South

[10:00] or Venezuela

[10:01] if socialism worked so well why are the

[10:03] people fleeing Cuba for Florida but

[10:05] they're not fleeing Florida for Cuba if

[10:07] socialism worked so well why are the

[10:09] guns owned only pointed in one direction

[10:10] if socialism works so well

[10:12] I was in there problem with people

[10:13] fleeing West Germany if socialism works

[10:16] well so well why did Europe become more

[10:18] like West Germany not more like East

[10:19] Germany

[10:20] if socialism works so well why is it

[10:22] that people have to flee it in order to

[10:23] survive and most importantly senator

[10:25] Sanders if socialism works so well why

[10:28] is it that every single human being that

[10:30] actually has lived under it does

[10:32] everything they possibly can to fight

[10:34] against it and to get out of it if

[10:36] socialism works so well sent senator

[10:38] Sanders and yet what's the one common

[10:42] denominator of every single time that

[10:43] this experiment has been tried the

[10:45] amount of power that is given to people

[10:47] that would other NIH's otherwise not

[10:49] have that power you want to make

[10:50] yourself really important to social

[10:51] society run for office you're the most

[10:53] important person in the country not the

[10:55] philanthropists not the church leaders

[10:57] not the community members not the civic

[10:58] leaders not the not the thought leaders

[11:00] not the authors not the religious

[11:01] scholars seeing a free society like

[11:03] America those people are the most

[11:05] important people in our society the

[11:07] authors the writers the creators the

[11:09] entrepreneurs the businesspeople in a

[11:10] socialist society they'll destroy the

[11:12] church they'll run over faith

[11:14] institutions creative writing is not

[11:16] allowed dissent against the state you

[11:18] know the most important people arts the

[11:19] pullet Bureau it's the it's the it's the

[11:22] elites that know better it's the green

[11:23] New Deal people it's the it's the cass

[11:26] sunstein

[11:26] elites that if you just give them enough

[11:28] power they'll solve the next problem for

[11:30] you and boy is that rooted in hubris and

[11:32] is that rooted in pride and this is the

[11:34] divide that is happening so distinctly

[11:36] right now in Western civilization and

[11:38] what is so horrifying is usually these

[11:40] movements of radical socialism they

[11:43] happen in times of despair and

[11:45] depression we are living in the greatest

[11:48] economy in American history and we're

[11:50] trying to create ways to destroy it

[11:52] never before has a country wanted to put

[11:56] themselves out of prosperity as much as

[11:58] the left-wing in this country and not

[12:00] only that they're trying to sell despair

[12:02] no no things actually aren't that good

[12:05] I forget the lowest ever black

[12:06] unemployment rate lowest ever Hispanic

[12:08] unemployment rate lowest ever Asian

[12:09] American unemployment like lowest women

[12:11] unemployment rate in 60 years lowest

[12:13] youth unemployment rate in 50 years

[12:14] forget that 4% GDP growth forget the

[12:16] best stock market ever in the history of

[12:19] our country forget the fact that the

[12:20] stock market at its best June in 88

[12:22] years

[12:23] definitely forget the fact that black

[12:24] poverty rate is at the all-time low

[12:26] don't even look at the fact that ten

[12:28] million black Americans are now off food

[12:30] stamps in this country please don't look

[12:32] at the fact that black America has a

[12:34] four thousand percent increase in

[12:36] entrepreneurship small business rates

[12:37] instead things are horrible because

[12:38] Trump said mean stuff oh really that's

[12:40] why things are horrible because Trump

[12:42] said mean stuff really really

[12:49] [Applause]

[12:53] Isis is destroyed we're finally adding

[12:55] peace on the Korean Peninsula

[12:56] the Iranian radicals are finally held in

[12:59] check the Embassy is in Jerusalem the

[13:00] Golan Heights is recognized the PA is

[13:03] getting defunded finally our allies have

[13:05] to pay for our military defending them

[13:07] for free for the last 40 years which is

[13:09] one of the most ridiculous things we've

[13:10] had to do our allies respect us our

[13:13] enemies fear us and yet we have to hear

[13:16] this entire thing that Donald Trump is

[13:17] the worst like your former governor I

[13:18] can't believe this guy you know he says

[13:20] well socialist is not the answer that I

[13:22] agree with and then he goes on Donald

[13:23] Trump's the worst president in American

[13:25] history oh really

[13:26] governor Hickenlooper he's really the

[13:28] worst gov he's the worst president

[13:30] American history that this is what he

[13:32] says on the on the on the stage that

[13:33] he's the worst president American

[13:35] history worse than Andrew Johnson who is

[13:36] impeached and literally stole money from

[13:38] the United States Treasury you know

[13:40] worse than the some of the some of the

[13:41] presidents that were in wide disgrace

[13:43] you know somehow he's worse than that

[13:45] and you look at this and you say oh my

[13:48] goodness they're not afraid that he's

[13:50] going to fail they're horrified that

[13:52] he's succeeded they are scared to death

[13:55] that he's succeed him

[13:56] because if he now is able to say I have

[14:01] done what I'm said I'm going to do never

[14:02] before has a politician and his through

[14:04] this country been attacked for doing

[14:06] what he said he's going to do we're so

[14:08] used to saying one thing another read my

[14:10] lips no new taxes Republicans said that

[14:12] you know I did not have sexual relations

[14:15] with you know that was Bill Clinton you

[14:16] know George W Bush weapons of mass

[14:19] destruction Barack Obama you like this

[14:20] doctor you can keep we're so used to

[14:22] politician saying one thing in another

[14:23] but then all of a sudden we have a

[14:25] leader who says embassy moved yes all

[14:28] the other guys said this Isis destroyed

[14:30] yes trade deals renegotiated the only

[14:33] thing that he has said is I know you

[14:34] were sick of winning I'm not very good

[14:36] guys I mean I mean all these victories

[14:38] after victories and let us not forget we

[14:41] have Gorsuch we have Kavanagh we are

[14:43] knocking on the door of a hundred and

[14:45] fifty Circuit Court judges nearly half

[14:47] of all the judges in this country

[14:49] replaced by this administration and yet

[14:51] we have to sit through an entire

[14:53] political apparatus that is trying to

[14:55] convince us that things are bad when

[14:57] things are bad you don't need to be told

[14:59] things are bad in 2008 when a lot of you

[15:02] were going through hard times and I know

[15:03] my family was going through hard times

[15:05] did you

[15:06] some demagoguing politician to tell you

[15:07] things were bad no no you know things

[15:09] are bad thank you very much

[15:10] you don't need to a two-hour infomercial

[15:13] on why this is the crisis of democracy I

[15:15] have to hear one more time an

[15:17] existential threat to this country you

[15:18] know who's an existential threat to this

[15:20] country the left is an existential

[15:21] threat to this country thank you very

[15:23] much and so I only I only have a couple

[15:30] moments remaining and so I'm bringing

[15:31] this fight to college campuses across

[15:32] the country and I'm telling you right

[15:34] now they're not going to give us our

[15:36] country back they're not we have to

[15:38] fight for every single inch and God

[15:42] bless this president for doing what he

[15:43] is doing to deliver the promises but I'm

[15:45] telling you right now everything that I

[15:47] just recited all these successes most

[15:49] young people have never even heard this

[15:51] they're being told by their professors

[15:53] that this is the rise of the worst you

[15:55] know thing that we've ever seen that

[15:56] there's kids in cages no actually kids

[15:59] in cages were under Barack Obama I don't

[16:00] remember the protest I don't remember

[16:02] any of this stuff they can't find a

[16:03] picture from this administration of kids

[16:05] in cages all the pictures they have to

[16:06] use are back from 2014 with President

[16:08] Barack Obama and we have such we've an

[16:12] obligation and we have an opportunity

[16:13] the opportunity is that we can win this

[16:16] generation over around these ideas in a

[16:18] way that will make historians head spin

[16:21] and the obligation is what a gift we've

[16:23] all been given you know I love seeing

[16:25] all the red white and blue I mean would

[16:26] it hurt the Democrats to put a flag up

[16:28] on stage I mean what it really hurt them

[16:30] to do that by the way it says it's as if

[16:32] the idea of America has now become a

[16:34] partisan idea it's the more we a July

[16:37] 4th celebration oh he wants to take over

[16:39] the country really that makes with

[16:41] Sherman tanks from the 1940s that's how

[16:43] he's gonna do it really on July 4th like

[16:46] that's that's his big Machiavellian plan

[16:48] he's gonna roll the tanks four of them

[16:51] he has four tanks

[16:53] from the 1940s and he's going to roll

[16:57] them and invade Northern Virginia like

[17:03] this is what we're supposed to believe

[17:07] and the obligation we've been given this

[17:12] unbelievable gift and all of you there's

[17:14] something all of you can do you can

[17:15] fight for every single inch it's not

[17:17] always easy

[17:18] I understand that for the conservative

[17:19] students out there Turning Point USA and

[17:21] otherwise I know your grades are getting

[17:23] lowered I know your professors are

[17:24] coming after you I know that you're

[17:26] losing friends over this I know there's

[17:27] social media posts about it for a how

[17:29] many of you have been silenced by social

[17:30] media companies and one way or the other

[17:31] how many people out there yeah and they

[17:33] say that it doesn't exist exactly I know

[17:35] that your voices are being stunted on

[17:37] Google and Facebook and all these other

[17:38] places I understand that but we have an

[17:40] obligation we really do and it's the

[17:42] people that understand the gift that are

[17:44] thankful for the gift and fight for the

[17:45] gift that are going to be able to

[17:46] preserve and protect this unbelievable

[17:49] treasure we have been given by God for

[17:52] my generation and future generations

[17:53] thank you guys so much appreciate it
