Douglas Murray on CBS Paying Trump 16 Million Over Deceptively Edited Kamala Harris Interview

Douglas Murray breaks down Paramount Global's 16 million dollar settlement with Donald Trump over a deceptively edited 60 Minutes interview with Kamala Harris that aired on CBS. The edited version replaced Harris's rambling, incoherent response about Prime Minister Netanyahu with a completely different answer, allegedly in an attempt to tip the scales in favor of the Democratic party during the presidential election. Murray examines how major media organizations provided cover for Harris despite her obvious inadequacy for the role of vice president, contrasting the treatment she received with how similar editing favoring Trump would have been portrayed.

Paramount Settles Trump Lawsuit Over Edited Harris Interview

Paramount Global has agreed to pay 16 million dollars to settle a legal dispute with Donald Trump regarding a deceptively edited 60 Minutes interview with Kamala Harris that was broadcast on CBS. The settlement represents another significant win and payout from a media organization to the former president.

The deception involved editing Harris's response to a question about Prime Minister Netanyahu. In the original response that aired on one platform, Harris gave a rambling answer: "Well, Bill, the work that we have done has resulted in a number of movements in that region by Israel that were very much prompted by or a result of many things including our advocacy for what needs to happen in the region."

However, the version that aired on 60 Minutes replaced this with an entirely different response: "We are not going to stop pursuing what is necessary for the United States to be clear about where we stand on the need for this war to end." The lawsuit alleged this deception was an attempt to tip the scales in favor of the Democratic party during the presidential election.

Douglas Murray's Analysis of Media Coverage

Best-selling author Douglas Murray, known for his books including The War on the West, The Strange Death of Europe, and his latest work on democracies and death cults, offered his perspective on the settlement and what it reveals about media bias.

Murray expressed a sense of nostalgia for the days of hearing Kamala Harris "fudging her way through questions as if she was a sort of really, you know, school-age child desperately trying to cover over for the fact that she hadn't done her homework." He described listening to her as "excruciating," referencing her characteristic speaking style: "the that's why we've done things that needed to be done which if we hadn't have done the things might have been done in a very real sense for America."

Questions About Harris's Qualifications

Murray found it astonishing that Harris reached the level of candidacy that she did, and indeed held the position as the second most powerful person in the United States. He emphasized that despite her "obvious inadequacy for the role of vice president, let alone president," numerous people in the media and Democratic party were "just like wafting her upwards, covering for her."

He noted that the media told the public, much like they did with Biden, that Harris "was at the peak performance, the best VP we'd ever had, totally on top of all issues." However, the unedited tape revealed what many already knew: "that she was hopelessly out of her depth as indeed was her boss."

Media Double Standards

Murray concluded by highlighting what he sees as a significant double standard in media coverage. He suggested that anyone who doesn't recognize the bias should consider what the reaction would be "if we'd found that a media interviewer had covered for Trump in that way and that he had been floundering or JD Vance had been found totally floundering on a question of geopolitics."

The fact that so much of the media was willing to help Harris in this way, Murray argued, is "pretty astonishing" and reveals a pattern of favorable coverage that would never be extended to political figures on the other side of the aisle. The 16 million dollar settlement serves as a costly reminder of the consequences when major media organizations cross the line from reporting the news to shaping it.
