Five Powerful Ways to Share the Gospel and Plant Seeds in Your Everyday Life
Christians worldwide are rising up with renewed boldness to declare the name of Jesus. While not everyone is called to speak on college campuses, every believer is called to be the salt of the earth and share the gospel with all creation. From opening scripture in public spaces to being radically generous, offering prayer boldly, sharing testimony, and leveraging social media, there are countless ways to plant seeds in the lives of those God has placed around you. This message explores five practical and powerful methods to live out your faith and make the most of the time you have been given.
Christians all over the world have been tremendously impacted by recent events. From Sydney, Australia to the United Kingdom, Madrid, Spain, Poland, Vienna, Austria, Germany, New Zealand, and Tel Aviv, believers are rising up with a renewed commitment to boldly declare the name of Jesus more than ever before. Christ is the one who inspires this movement, and while not everyone is called to speak on college campuses, all believers are called to be the salt of the earth and share the gospel with all creation.
There are so many ways to fulfill this calling. This message shares five powerful ways to share the gospel and plant seeds in the lives of those God has placed around you.
Opening Scripture in Public Spaces
One of the most unexpected ways to plant seeds is simply by opening scripture in public spaces. Whether at a local library, park, or coffee shop, the simple act of reading the Bible in public can draw attention and plant seeds without even intentionally trying. People passing by or sitting nearby notice, and their curiosity is piqued.
It's important to note that the heart behind this matters. This isn't about looking righteous in front of others, but about genuinely engaging with God's Word. Consider gathering with a few friends for a small Bible study in a public place. Those nearby who catch a glance or overhear your conversation about scripture may find seeds planted in their hearts.
This falls into a bigger category of how believers present themselves to the world. Wearing clothing that represents Jesus boldly—whether a shirt, hoodie, or hat that says "Jesus is King"—plants seeds in everyone you come in contact with. Some people smile, some have their gears turning, and yes, some give dirty looks. But wearing Jesus boldly isn't about appearing righteous; it's about planting seeds that you walk with Christ.
Unfortunately, wearing a cross doesn't say much anymore because many who openly deny Jesus still wear crosses on their clothing or jewelry. The devil has succeeded in that area. So believers are figuring out how to be more bold about their faith. Even putting stickers about Jesus on your water bottle or laptop are great ideas that plant seeds in anyone who comes in contact with you.
Being Radically Generous
Radical generosity doesn't necessarily mean financial giving. It means giving your all and putting people above yourself. This could look like making a meal or dessert for someone who seems down lately, asking someone you care about if there's anything you can do to make their life easier, or reaching out to the person in front of you at the grocery store and offering to pay for their groceries.
Meet a need in someone's life and make it clear that it isn't just kindness—it's because Christ has been generous to you. This is a powerful way to not only live out the gospel and exalt others above yourself, but also to plant seeds in others about Jesus.
You will look different. You will look weird. A lot of being the salt of the earth means looking uncommon to those around you—not like a fanatic, but in a way that stands out because it's unusual. You have to be willing to put pride aside.
Offering Prayer Boldly
This method can be scary the first time and maybe even the second, but it's truly a powerful and effective way to share the light of Christ to those walking in darkness and to do what God has called believers to do.
1 Timothy 2:1 urges that "supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people." When you see someone struggling, offering to pray for them is how you intercede. When someone shares that they're struggling in a certain area of their life, don't just say "I'm going to pray for you tonight when I get home." Instead, ask, "Can I pray for you right now? Would it be okay if I prayed for you right now?"
That moment of courage can deeply impact someone in ways you cannot imagine. That prayer could also deeply impact something happening in the spiritual realm that cannot be seen. The person might see the fruits of that prayer and how it got answered, and end up turning to Jesus because prayer works.
Sharing Your Testimony
1 Peter 3:15 instructs believers to "always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have." Before attending any social event or gathering with people who may not know Jesus, pray and ask the Lord to open a door of conversation about Him. Pray for a window of opportunity to share your testimony and sprinkle a little bit of Jesus in the conversation.
Being prepared is essential. You need to be in the Word to do this effectively. It's natural to feel anxious about sharing your testimony or speaking about Jesus, especially when worried about being asked something you don't have the answer to or saying the wrong thing. But two things become clear with practice: first, the more you do it, the easier it becomes. Second, your testimony doesn't have to be forced into a conversation, and it doesn't have to be your whole testimony every time.
You might share bits and pieces of your testimony because different people need different parts of your story. For example, having a zodiac sign tattoo can bring up conversations. A great response when someone asks about it is explaining that while you want to remove it, you've decided to keep it as a reminder. When they ask why, a conversation about Jesus is born—specifically about how you used to worship the creation until you met the Creator.
Just be ready, and pray for God to open up conversations. He will, because the harvest is plentiful and the workers are few. God is looking down on His people asking, "Who is willing? Who can I use? Can God use you?"
Leveraging Social Media
This is an all-time favorite method and something that can reach millions. God has used ordinary believers to reach countless people across social media through videos and personal testimonies of their walk with Jesus.
If you have a smartphone, you have no excuse. What is stopping you from posting your own video—just 10 to 15 seconds long, maybe even a minute—of how Jesus brought you from death to life? Imagine the ripple effect if everyone reading this posted a video or even a text post on social media sharing that Jesus changed their life and brought them from death to life.
One of the biggest lies the enemy will try to convince the body of Christ of is that your testimony isn't special and that God isn't trying to use you for big things. But you were called for a very big purpose. Even if that video or post only gets six likes or six views, you really have no idea what God will do with it and the ripple effect it will cause.
Make the Most of Today
Recent events have been heavy reminders that tomorrow is not promised. We have no idea what tomorrow will bring or when God is going to call us home. We don't know how much time we have left to boldly share the name of Jesus as easily as we can right now.
Make the most of today. Be the salt of the earth. Share the gospel in whatever way God is calling you to share it. Your obedience matters, and your testimony has the power to change lives.
