Charlie Kirk on Critical Race Theory's Attack on Free Discussion and Civil Discourse in America

November 19, 2020

Charlie Kirk examines a disturbing aspect of critical race theory: the shutdown of civil discourse and discussion in America. With 56% of college students believing violence is an appropriate response to disagreement and 71% of young people afraid to speak their minds, Kirk warns that society is moving from persuasion to force. He explains how labeling opponents as immoral rather than mistaken creates moral license for extreme behavior, threatening the foundation of free society.

The Elimination of Discussion

The second attribute of critical race theory is they do not want any discussion whatsoever with people that you disagree with. A poll came out that 56 percent of college students believe that violence is an appropriate way of response to a political viewpoint that you disagree with. Additionally, 71 percent of young people believe that if they speak their mind politically or religiously they'll lose their job or they'll lose their friends.

We really are seeing the end of discussion in our country in a very troubling way, regardless of where you believe politically or what you view of the world.

Two Ways to Govern Human Beings

There's only two ways to govern human beings: you can govern them by speaking, persuasion and talking, or you can govern them by force. Those are basically it. You can almost organize every kind of governmental system into one of those two categories. And as soon as you stop talking, all of a sudden the person with the bigger weapon or more power is going to win.

The Shift from Wrong to Immoral

All of you guys should know this and it's kind of spreading all across the pop culture and in activist media and in a lot of different churches unfortunately, which is very dangerous: if there anyone disagrees even slightly, they don't say that you're wrong—they say you're a bad person. That's not the right way to deal with discourse. Instead of saying "I think you're mistaken here," they say "No, you're actually immoral."

The Dangerous Moral License

Where does that lead you? Well, also if you think that you're not just correct with an argument, you think you're a better person—well that gives you a moral license to then resort to things that all of us would deem to be unthinkable.
