Backstage and Event Setup
This is where Charlie stood or sat, near a tent. We are now on our way back to UVU campus. It has been a month since the tragedy.
People have asked why I stopped recording at 12:12, whether those on the balcony could see someone lying on the roof, if I could pinpoint where the shot came from, and what Charlie saw backstage where it was closed off.
Here is what the backstage looked like: the car came from one side, and students were gathered on the other side of the building. The backstage area, probably where the meet and greet with the TPUSA chapter took place, was taped off.
Charlie walked in through this taped-off area, where the tent was set up.
Memorial and Campus Reflections
On the other side of campus, a small memorial site for Charlie has been set up. This footage is from a month and five days after the event.
I parked my bike where I did on the day of the event and entered through the same doors.
The campus feels good today, maybe because of the weather.
Visibility and Shot Location
Charlie was likely standing or sitting near the tent. From his perspective, the shot’s origin is harder to see because a tree partially blocks the view.
The taped-off balcony area kept people from standing there for safety reasons.
Most of the crowd probably did not see the shooter because of the tree blocking the view.
The walls around the area reflected the sound of the shot, which sounded high-pitched to me.
Based on where I stood and the sound delay, it makes sense that the shot came from about 200 yards behind me, likely from a roof, consistent with what others have said.
Why I Stopped Recording
Many have asked why I stopped filming at 12:12. The simple answer is that I did not want to stand there holding my phone for hours recording poor-quality video and audio.
I also wanted to be in the frame of the official cameras so I could be seen in the background.
Once the debate started, I figured I would watch it on YouTube later and did not need to record myself.
If I had known what would happen, I would have done things differently, but I’m sorry I don’t have more footage.
Final Thoughts
This is how the scene looks a month later.
Yesterday was Charlie’s birthday. Happy birthday, Charlie. I hope you’re doing well in heaven.

[00:00] And
[00:02] yeah, this is where Charlie stood or sat
[00:06] with a tent.
[00:09] Yeah,
[00:12] it was probably up there. We are on our
[00:14] way back to U campus now. It has been a
[00:18] month since the tragedy and there just
[00:21] have been a couple comments in the
[00:24] videos I posted
[00:26] and they were wondering people were
[00:28] wondering why I stopped recording at
[00:30] 12:12
[00:32] if the people that stood on the balcony
[00:34] if they could see um up on the roof
[00:39] someone laying down or not. Um,
[00:43] also if I could pinpoint
[00:46] where the shot came from,
[00:50] um, after hearing it and also just in
[00:53] general like what did Charlie see?
[00:57] What did backstage kind of look like
[01:00] where it was closed off?
[01:02] and we're just gonna record
[01:06] what the whole scene kind of looked like
[01:08] and I will tell you what um I saw,
[01:11] heard, and what it looks like today.
[01:15] Okay, so this is how it looked like
[01:18] backstage.
[01:20] The car came from over there
[01:24] and
[01:25] they drove this way. So all the students
[01:30] were in this side of the building. And
[01:32] this was kind of backstage
[01:34] where they probably had the meet and
[01:36] greet with the TPUSA chapter here at
[01:38] UVU.
[01:40] Yeah, you can see how it's you can see
[01:42] how it's closed off still. Okay, so this
[01:45] is where he came from this way.
[01:51] And as you can see, it's all taped off.
[01:54] He walked in and that's where the tent
[01:58] was set up.
[01:59] Now, let's go to the other side and
[02:04] see how it looks like right now. Okay,
[02:05] so this is where we just came from. And
[02:08] now on this part of campus, they have a
[02:12] little
[02:14] memorial site set up for Charlie.
[02:36] [Music]
[02:53] And this is a month later. Month and 5
[02:55] days.
[02:57] Wow.
[02:59] This is where
[03:01] I parked the bike. And we're going to
[03:03] head in the same doors as I did
[03:08] in just a second. I have to say, I don't
[03:10] know if it's just the weather, but this
[03:13] campus feels good. I don't know if I can
[03:15] say that in the video, but
[03:28] wow.
[03:33] Yeah, they took all the paint down,
[03:36] hung up the US flag.
[03:39] So apparently
[03:42] it was up there. It was that building.
[03:49] We stood right here
[03:51] on the third step.
[03:54] Like at least
[03:57] at least you see something. But
[04:00] if that guy just laid down on the rope,
[04:03] then
[04:05] it's kind of hard to see.
[04:11] Okay. So, it was the little safe center,
[04:15] which is this building. You can see
[04:16] right there. There's a tree in the way
[04:18] right now. So, let's let's head up and
[04:21] see from the
[04:23] from here.
[04:29] Okay.
[04:31] So
[04:34] there's a a tree in way right now in the
[04:37] way.
[04:39] You can kind of like start seeing it
[04:40] from here depending on where he was. The
[04:44] tape was
[04:47] right here. So people were standing on
[04:49] this side
[04:52] and like yeah that tree is in the way
[04:56] and it is kind of hard like just to see
[04:58] and to pay attention to that. So, I
[05:01] think
[05:03] this whole crowd, most of them just did
[05:05] not see it. Most because of the tree.
[05:07] Like, you can't really see through the
[05:09] tree.
[05:10] Like, when you're right here,
[05:13] okay, that makes that makes more sense.
[05:16] But to be very honest,
[05:19] with how big this event was,
[05:22] no one just paid attention to it. Like,
[05:25] who would have thought, you know?
[05:27] So, yeah, all of this was empty. It was
[05:29] closed off right here and right there.
[05:32] And yeah, theoretically like
[05:36] he could have seen something, but
[05:39] it's kind of hard to see.
[05:42] And this is
[05:44] this is where he stood.
[05:49] Wow.
[05:53] There's another memorial down here.
[06:05] So this here I believe was the line of
[06:08] students who wanted to debate Charlie
[06:10] and they were just lined up right here
[06:13] to have a funnel to the mic.
[06:16] And so like in the video that I posted,
[06:18] you could see students standing here in
[06:21] line with MAGA hats and everything. So,
[06:24] this was the line I believe that led up
[06:26] to the mic.
[06:28] And
[06:30] yeah, this is where Charlie stood or sat
[06:35] with the tent.
[06:38] Yeah,
[06:40] he was probably up there.
[06:44] This is what it looks like from his
[06:45] perspective.
[06:49] Wow. So, a lot of people asked if I
[06:52] could pinpoint where the shot came from.
[06:55] And to be honest, the walls up here,
[06:59] they reflected the sound of it.
[07:03] And
[07:05] when I heard it, as I said in the other
[07:08] video, it sounded kind of high pitched.
[07:11] And it does to me it does make sense as
[07:14] having witnessed it that it came from
[07:17] about 200 yards behind me. cuz I stood
[07:21] right there and when I heard it
[07:25] about 08 to 1 second or 1 second after
[07:31] I heard the shot only then I saw the
[07:36] impact and whatever happened after that
[07:39] was Charlie. So to me it totally makes
[07:42] sense that it has happened from a bit
[07:46] further away on a roof.
[07:49] um most likely exactly where everyone
[07:52] says it happened.
[07:55] And yeah, so to me it makes sense. I
[07:58] heard it. I think it came from the back.
[08:01] Um this is not proof of anything that it
[08:04] actually was from up there, but just
[08:06] from me having heard it, I think it's
[08:08] very logical and I believe it. So
[08:13] another question was why did I stop
[08:14] filming at 12:12?
[08:17] And the simple answer, which people just
[08:20] don't want to believe, is there's no
[08:23] hiding. There's no I cut it out and just
[08:25] didn't post it. I just did not want to
[08:27] stand there with my phone for like two
[08:29] hours and record the video with poor
[08:33] audio quality. Um, on top of that, what
[08:36] people have complained about was I said
[08:38] that I wanted to stand in the frame so
[08:40] that like I could be seen in the
[08:42] background, which is true 100%. Um, and
[08:45] on top of that, I just did not want to
[08:46] stand there like with my phone up. So,
[08:50] as the debate started, I was like,
[08:52] "Okay, this is what I will see on
[08:54] YouTube, and I do not have to record
[08:57] myself." So, that's why I stopped at
[08:59] 12:12. And I'm sorry that I do not have
[09:01] more footage from this angle. Um, but it
[09:05] is what it is. If I knew what if I if I
[09:07] knew this would have happened, I would
[09:09] have done way more things differently
[09:11] than I did. But like obviously like yeah
[09:15] it just sorry for not doing that. It is
[09:19] what it is. But yeah.
[09:23] So yeah, there you have it. This is how
[09:26] it looks like a month after it happened.
[09:30] It was Charlie's birthday yesterday. So
[09:32] happy birthday Charlie. Hope you're
[09:33] doing well in heaven.
[09:36] And
[09:37] yeah,
[09:41] I'll see you guys very soon. Bye.
