Jayne Zirkle Reflects on Charlie Kirk's Faith, Family, and Political Legacy Hours After His Death

Jayne Zirkle, who knew Charlie Kirk personally, reflects on her relationship with him just hours after his death, recalling how they first met in 2017 at his very first high school leadership summit at George Washington University, when Turning Point USA was still a small organization drawing only around 80 to 100 students. She describes watching the organization grow year after year into events drawing tens of thousands of participants, and credits Kirk's grassroots campaign efforts, including deploying thousands of ballot chasers and canvassers, with playing a major role in key battleground states like Arizona during the most recent presidential election. Jayne also speaks to Kirk's faith, calling him a man of God whose relationship with Christ guided everything he did, and remembers the wife and two young children he leaves behind. She closes by calling for unity in the face of what she describes as a serious sickness of political violence in the country.

A Friendship That Began at a Small Leadership Summit

Asked to reflect on her personal relationship with Charlie Kirk, Jayne describes the moment they first met.

"I first met Charlie back in 2017 at his first ever high school leadership summit at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. This was when Turning Point USA was just a baby organization that not many people had heard of, and there were only around 80 to 100 students in attendance at this conference," Jayne says. "He sat with the students and had breakout sessions, just talked with us one-on-one."

She recalls returning to the summit in the following years and watching the organization grow each time, eventually drawing tens of thousands of participants to Kirk's events.

"He truly was a revolutionary in the political world, and when he spoke, people listened," Jayne says, noting that on top of running Turning Point USA, Kirk also hosted The Charlie Kirk Show every day. "He was just one of a kind and such a powerful force."

Charlie Kirk's Influence on the 2024 Election and the Trump Administration

Jayne speaks to Kirk's close ties to senior figures in the Trump administration and the role many credit him with playing in helping Trump win key battleground states.

"Charlie Kirk led one of the largest grassroots campaign initiatives ever. He deployed thousands of ballot chasers and canvassers, employed hundreds and thousands of people to fill these positions, and gave young people opportunities to get involved with politics," Jayne says. "He really focused this past election on the key state of Arizona, and I truly believe it's because of Charlie's efforts that Arizona turned the way it did. He leaves behind such an amazing legacy that's unparalleled."

Remembering Kirk's Faith and Family

Jayne turns to Kirk's family, noting the wife and two young children he leaves behind, and emphasizes that his Christian faith was central to who he was.

"He was such a strong man of faith, and his faith is what always guided him. He was a man of God, and I think that's what he'd really want us to remember him for: his faith," Jayne says.

A Call for Unity in the Face of Political Violence

Asked about the contradiction between Kirk's advocacy for free speech, dialogue, and polite discourse and the violence that ended his life, Jayne calls for the country to come together.

"Charlie Kirk was a uniter, and unfortunately there is definitely an evil hatred that exists in our country that we need to overcome, and we have to overcome it together. We have to unify as one," Jayne says. She notes the timing, with the 24th anniversary of the September 11th attacks falling the following day, adding, "We said never again when we saw the assassination attempt against President Trump's life, and clearly that theme did not resonate with enough people. There is a very, very serious sickness within our country right now, and it's devastating to see the impact that it's had. But Charlie is somebody that has always worked toward being a uniter, and that's something we need to continue as we honor his legacy."
