Online investigators and legal commentators examined why Charlie Kirk's rifle wound produced no exit wound, a question that drew scrutiny from gun owners and hunters accustomed to seeing high-caliber rounds pass fully through game animals. The Daily Mail reported that the bullet fragmented inside Charlie Kirk's body, a phenomenon forensic experts describe as unusual but not impossible; terminal ballistics, they note, is a matter of probability rather than certainty, and rounds can behave unpredictably on impact, including changing direction inside soft tissue. A ballistics test using anatomically accurate dummies and gel attempted to recreate whether a .30-06 round could realistically stop at the neck as officially described, while a separate test examined the rare .30-06 Accelerator round, a lighter, faster sub-caliber bullet housed in a standard casing, as an alternative explanation for the lack of an exit wound. Investigators have also noted that the ATF was unable to conclusively match recovered bullet fragments to the rifle recovered at the scene, though it was likewise unable to rule it out.
