Charlie Kirk Breaks Down Kamala Harris's Disastrous CNN Town Hall Performance With Anderson Cooper

October 25, 2024

Charlie Kirk and Blake dissect Kamala Harris's catastrophic CNN Town Hall appearance with Anderson Cooper, exposing her inability to answer basic policy questions despite days of preparation. From dodging questions about her legislative priorities to flip-flopping on the border wall in real-time, Harris demonstrated what Kirk calls a transparently disqualifying performance for the presidency. Even CNN's Dana Bash admitted Harris failed to close the deal, unable to articulate a single policy priority or differentiate herself from Biden. Kirk argues that her Hitler-fascist rhetoric in the final days reveals a panicking campaign that has abandoned persuading swing voters and is desperately trying to motivate an already-motivated base.

The Setup: Days of Prep for a Disaster

Charlie Kirk opened his analysis by emphasizing the context of Kamala Harris's CNN Town Hall appearance. This event was one of the few items actually on Harris's schedule, making her performance all the more significant. Kirk argued that her inability to handle not even critical questions, but just neutral job interview questions, was transparently disqualifying for someone seeking the Office of the President of the United States.

Blake added crucial context about Harris's preparation time. She had taken approximately two days off the campaign trail, going to Pennsylvania and DC for private meetings with staff. She conducted minimal public campaigning during this period, focusing instead on preparation for this town hall and some interviews with Spanish-language channels. The implication was clear: Harris had ample time to prepare, yet still failed spectacularly.

According to Blake, it appeared that instead of preparing substantive policy answers, the campaign's strategy was simply to call Trump a fascist in eight different ways and occasionally invoke Hitler. Kirk and Blake agreed this approach revealed a panicking campaign, noting that in the final ten days of an election, resorting to Hitler comparisons only motivates the die-hard base with Trump Derangement Syndrome. These voters should have already been secured, and if they weren't, Harris had serious problems. More importantly, she had completely abandoned any attempt to appeal to the middle, leaving questions about what electoral coalition she was even trying to build.

Dana Bash's Damning Assessment

Perhaps the most telling moment came not from the town hall itself, but from CNN's Dana Bash analyzing the performance afterward. Kirk played a clip where Bash stated that people she had been talking to weren't sure Harris had closed the deal. Bash then went through a litany of failures: when asked about legislative priorities, Harris couldn't name one. When asked about her weaknesses or mistakes she'd made, the answers weren't there.

Kirk emphasized the significance of this criticism coming from Dana Bash specifically. When a CNN anchor is saying you didn't close the deal and couldn't answer basic questions about your policy identity, she's essentially saying the performance was a dumpster fire. Blake noted that one observer on Twitter suggested Bash was speaking directly to Kamala in frustration, essentially saying the network had told her what to do but she failed to execute.

The consensus among observers was unprecedented. Blake quoted someone saying they had never seen a politician less prepared than Kamala Harris in that friendly CNN Town Hall. She didn't just evade uncomfortable questions—she evaded all the questions. CNN repeatedly teed her up to answer how she was different from Biden, and she failed time and time again. Despite taking time off to prep for the interview, she simply wasn't ready and came off as someone unprepared for what was being thrown at her.

The Border Wall Fiasco

One of the most jaw-dropping exchanges involved the border wall question, which Kirk noted had been viewed over seven and a half million times on Twitter. In this exchange, Anderson Cooper caught Harris in a real-time flip-flop that perfectly encapsulated her inability to maintain a coherent position.

The exchange began with Harris mocking Trump's border wall, saying Mexico didn't pay for it and he only built about 2% of it. She even joked about Trump doing a photo op at a part of the wall President Obama built. But then Cooper pointed out that she was agreeing to a bill that would earmark $650 million to continue building that wall.

Harris then pivoted, saying she pledged to bring forward the bipartisan bill to further strengthen and secure the border. She launched into talking about working across the aisle and fixing the broken immigration system, avoiding any ideological perspective and just wanting to fix the problem. When Cooper pressed her again about the $650 million for the wall and whether she still thought it was stupid, she claimed she wasn't afraid of good ideas wherever they occur.

Cooper asked directly: "So you don't think it's stupid anymore?" Harris responded by attacking Trump's implementation rather than the concept, saying he didn't do much. When Cooper asked, "But you do want to build some wall?" Harris replied that she wanted to strengthen the border.

Kirk found the exchange jarring to watch, describing how Harris constantly switched modes. She started by making fun of Trump's wall, then when confronted about her own support for it, dialed back to "we want what works, let's just get it done, this isn't ideological." When pressed on supporting a border wall, she said she supports good ideas wherever they come from. But when reminded she had called it a dumb idea, she had no coherent response.

The Trump Contrast

Blake drew a sharp contrast with Trump's CNN town hall with Kaitlan Collins from a year earlier. The two events couldn't have been more different in terms of how the candidates handled pressure. Trump was blunt, precise, and straightforward with his answers, while Harris was dodgy and opaque.

Blake specifically recalled CNN's first real attempt to damage Trump on the Roe v. Wade abortion question. They kept trying to get him off his position, but Trump simply stated his view: they did a great thing getting rid of Roe, every judge and legal expert said it was terrible law, it's a state issue now, and that's great. Even though Blake acknowledged abortion remains a tough issue for Trump, he had his line, stuck to it, stated it succinctly, and managed to stay stable on an issue Democrats desperately wanted to damage him on.

Comparing this to Kamala, Blake said she was like a reed blowing in the wind. She couldn't figure out what she believed. Everything she said sounded like she was repeating what other people told her, but she couldn't always remember how it went. She couldn't square the contradictions between her past and present statements, making her look like a mess. Blake's assessment was devastating: Harris is not a prepared person, doesn't understand the issues, can't talk about them off the cuff, and can only deliver canned statements. If anything throws off the canned statement, it's a total meltdown.

The Biden Differentiation Failure

Kirk also played a clip of Anderson Cooper asking Harris the most basic question imaginable for someone who has been vice president for four years: how can voters expect her to deviate from the Biden Administration's direction? Her answer was remarkably thin: her administration would not be a continuation of the Biden Administration, she brings her own ideas and experience, and she represents a new generation of leadership that believes in taking new approaches.

Kirk and Blake noted they couldn't even play all the clips where Harris got a question and rambled for five or seven minutes without answering it. As a radio show, they simply didn't have time to play uninterrupted clips of non-answers that long, but emphasized that this happened repeatedly throughout the town hall.

An All-Time Bad Interview

Blake summed up the performance as an all-time bad interview. Beyond wanting Trump to win because they want a Republican presidency, Blake said he wanted to win to get the tell-all memoirs and recriminations that would follow. He predicted oral histories where Democratic operatives would describe seeing clips from the town hall and burying their faces in their hands, realizing it was all over, then going to the bathroom to take a Xanax and vomit in the toilet.

Kirk concluded by emphasizing the stakes: this wasn't just a bad interview, it was a disqualifying performance that revealed a candidate fundamentally unprepared for the office she seeks. The fact that even friendly CNN hosts and analysts couldn't spin it positively spoke volumes about just how catastrophic the appearance truly was.

[00:00] so Blake let's play Dana Bash but I just

[00:01] want to take a step back here this is

[00:03] one of the few things that was on

[00:04] kamala's schedule and her inability to

[00:07] dialogue with not even critical

[00:09] questions but just neutral job interview

[00:12] questions this is this CNN town hall is

[00:16] is transparently disqualifying for her

[00:20] to ever assume the Office of the

[00:22] President of the United States yeah well

[00:24] she she literally went off uh she kind

[00:28] of went off the campaign Trail for about

[00:29] two days days she had you know I think

[00:31] it was maybe not two full days but there

[00:33] was a period of a couple days where she

[00:35] had not many campaign events she went to

[00:38] Pennsylvania and it seemed the focus was

[00:41] and she also I think went to DC to have

[00:42] meetings with staff so she basically had

[00:44] two days of private meetings not doing a

[00:47] lot of out there campaigning and it

[00:48] preceded this town hall as well as I

[00:52] think she did some interviews on maybe

[00:53] it was tundo or one of the Spanish

[00:55] channels so she was doing a series of

[00:57] these interviews and she had time to

[00:58] prep for this she had time for her staff

[01:01] to get her ready for the questions that

[01:04] she would hear and it appears that

[01:05] instead they were just deciding okay

[01:09] we're going to call Trump a fascist here

[01:12] here's eight different ways to call

[01:13] Trump a fascist maybe say Hitler

[01:15] sometimes too and you're like that was

[01:19] their plan they think this is how you

[01:21] close the deal on an election it just it

[01:25] does feel it genuinely feels to me like

[01:27] they're panicking because really when

[01:30] you're in the final 10 days it's not

[01:33] good if you're doing the Hitler freak

[01:35] out because that's only we've been

[01:37] hearing this for a decade that's only

[01:39] going to motivate your DieHard base

[01:43] genuine TDS Trump derangement voters and

[01:48] those people should have voted already

[01:49] they should be in the bag and if they're

[01:51] not kamla has huge issues cuz it's not

[01:55] like well she's now abandoned trying to

[01:56] appeal to the middle so what is the

[01:58] electoral coalition she's trying to

[02:00] build

[02:02] here yeah and it's just is she trying to

[02:05] win over like more Ron lobbyists or

[02:08] something I mean this is such a the the

[02:10] Trump is Hitler nonsense she's going to

[02:12] try to make her closing argument from

[02:14] the National Mall let's play Dana Bash

[02:17] from CNN um play Cut

[02:20] 97 I'll just tell you what I'm hearing

[02:23] from people who I have been talking to

[02:25] uh and that is that uh if her goal was

[02:30] to close the

[02:31] deal they're not sure she did that and

[02:35] you know some people have asked is she

[02:36] being held to a different standard maybe

[02:39] but that's maybe the world that she's

[02:41] living in and on the question of who she

[02:45] is people are understanding that a

[02:47] little bit more but what she will do the

[02:49] question about her legislative

[02:50] priorities name one there there wasn't

[02:53] one um you know some more of her

[02:56] personality and her sort of character uh

[02:58] questions about your weaknesses or uh

[03:02] what what mistakes uh did you make not

[03:04] necessarily the answers there that's

[03:07] just name one there wasn't one it like

[03:12] that's just you know when you're it's

[03:14] coming from Dana Bash that is a a

[03:16] damning statement it's one thing yeah oh

[03:19] she didn't close the deal okay it's one

[03:20] thing if you're hearing that from you

[03:22] know a republican analyst who's there to

[03:24] be polite when Dana Bash is saying you

[03:26] didn't close the deal and you couldn't

[03:28] answer the basic question of what's your

[03:30] policy

[03:31] identity that is she's saying it was a

[03:35] dumpster fire uh there there's a line a

[03:37] guy on a Twitter a disgraced

[03:38] propagandist he was saying uh Dana Bash

[03:42] saying she didn't close the deal was

[03:43] actually Dana speaking directly to kamla

[03:46] she was saying hey we told you what to

[03:48] do but you didn't do it basically

[03:52] throwing up her hands in anger because

[03:54] really what else could she do and

[03:58] another one I've never seen a politician

[04:01] less prepared than kamla for uh sorry

[04:05] jumped here I've never seen a politician

[04:06] less prepared than KLA in tonight's

[04:08] friendly CNN Town Hall she didn't just

[04:10] evade uncomfortable questions she evaded

[04:13] all the questions they teed her up over

[04:16] and over to answer how are you different

[04:18] and she failed time and time again she

[04:22] didn't do the homework and that's the

[04:23] craziest thing she took time off to prep

[04:26] for this interview and then she just

[04:29] wasn't ready she repeatedly came off as

[04:31] someone who was not ready for what was

[04:34] being thrown at her and this is another

[04:36] great one this clip this clip has been

[04:38] seen over seven almost seven and a half

[04:40] million times on X and she it's her

[04:44] trying to talk about securing the border

[04:46] and Anderson Cooper points out wait are

[04:48] you are you against or in favor of

[04:50] securing the Border we can't figure it

[04:51] out let's play

[04:54] 106 is a border wall stupid well let's

[04:57] talk about Donald Trump in that border

[04:59] wall

[05:01] so remember Donald Trump said Mexico

[05:03] would pay for it come on they didn't how

[05:07] much of that wall did he build I think

[05:09] the last number I saw is about 2% and

[05:11] then when it came time for him to do a

[05:13] photo op you know where he did it in the

[05:15] part of the wall that President Obama

[05:17] built but you're agreeing to a bill that

[05:19] would earmark $650 million to continue

[05:21] building that wall I I pledge that I am

[05:25] going to bring forward that bipartisan

[05:27] Bill to further stren and secure our

[05:30] border yes I am and I'm going to work

[05:33] across the aisle to pass a comprehensive

[05:37] bill that deals with a broken

[05:40] immigration system I think Jackson's

[05:43] question part of it was to acknowledge

[05:46] that America has always had migration

[05:50] but there needs to be a legal process

[05:52] for it people have to earn it and that's

[05:55] the point that I think is the most

[05:57] important point that can be made which

[05:59] is we need a president who is grounded

[06:02] in common sense and practical outcomes

[06:05] like let's just fix this thing let's

[06:07] just fix it why is there any ideological

[06:10] perspective on this let's just fix the

[06:13] problem to fix the problem you're you're

[06:15] doing this compromis bill it does call

[06:17] for $650 million that was earmarked

[06:19] under Trump to actually still go to

[06:21] build the wall I am not afraid of good

[06:23] ideas where they occur so you don't

[06:24] think it's stupid anymore I think what

[06:27] he did and how he did it did was didn't

[06:29] not make much sense because he actually

[06:31] didn't do much of

[06:32] anything I just talked about that wall

[06:35] right we just talked about it he didn't

[06:36] actually do much of anything but you do

[06:39] want to build some wall I want to

[06:42] strengthen our

[06:45] border it's so jarring to see that it's

[06:48] like she's constantly switching modes so

[06:51] she starts off I'm gonna make fun hey

[06:53] Trump is so stupid he thought of his

[06:55] dumb wall let's make fun of it and then

[06:57] Anderson you know buts in wait well

[06:58] don't you support a wall now and she she

[07:01] dials back well we just want to we want

[07:03] to do what works we just let's just get

[07:05] it done this is not ideological let's

[07:07] just fix it so you you do support a

[07:10] border wall I support good ideas

[07:12] wherever they come from but didn't you

[07:13] say it was a dumb

[07:17] idea it's as you said we had to see the

[07:20] whole thing because it's really bizarre

[07:23] to see the way that she sways around

[07:26] when under attack here and it's so

[07:28] telling you remember remember that town

[07:30] hall Trump did also on CNN uh a year ago

[07:33] it was Caitlyn Collins such the opposite

[07:34] of trump which is just totally had two

[07:37] different I mean Trump trump could not

[07:39] be more blunt or precise or just

[07:42] straightforward with his answers and she

[07:43] couldn't be more dodgy or opaque yeah I

[07:47] remember Caitlyn Collins I think that

[07:48] was the first time I remember seeing

[07:50] them it was really their first pass on

[07:52] really going hard at Trump on the roie

[07:55] Wade abortion question and they're

[07:57] trying to get him off and he's just

[07:58] saying like NOP nope we did a great

[08:00] thing we got rid of row it was terrible

[08:02] every every judge said it was awful

[08:04] every legal expert said it was terrible

[08:06] it's a state thing now we're leaving it

[08:08] to the states it's great and they kept

[08:10] trying to get him off that and it's a

[08:12] tough issue we've acknowledged it it's

[08:14] an issue that is still difficult for him

[08:17] and but he would just he had his line he

[08:19] stuck to it he could state it succinctly

[08:22] and he's I think managed to really uh

[08:26] stay stable on that issue that they've

[08:28] tried to really damage him on and you

[08:30] just compare this to KLA who is like

[08:32] she's a read blowing in the wind she

[08:34] can't figure she doesn't know what she

[08:36] believes everything she's saying it's

[08:38] like she needs to just repeat what other

[08:40] people have told her and she doesn't

[08:42] always remember how it goes and she

[08:44] can't easily Square the contradictions

[08:46] between what she says now and what she

[08:48] said in the past and so she just looks

[08:50] like a mess she is not a prepared person

[08:53] she doesn't understand the issues so she

[08:56] can't talk about the issues off the cuff

[08:59] all she can do is Cann statements and if

[09:02] anything throws off the canned statement

[09:04] it's a total

[09:08] meltdown it is well said all right let's

[09:10] play more by the way there's more tape

[09:11] here of just we have not even played I

[09:14] don't think unless my memory is is

[09:15] drawing he asked her what would you do

[09:18] differently Anderson Cooper asked a very

[09:20] simple question um what would you do

[09:22] different play Cut

[09:24] 86 considering you have been in the

[09:26] position of vice president for the past

[09:28] 4 years under the Biden Administration

[09:31] how can we expect you to deviate from

[09:33] the direction of that Administration

[09:34] compared to your own my Administration

[09:37] will not be a continuation of the Biden

[09:38] Administration I bring to this role my

[09:42] own ideas and my own

[09:45] experience I represent a new generation

[09:48] of leadership on a number of issues and

[09:51] believe that we have to actually take

[09:52] new

[09:54] approaches and and remember Charlie

[09:56] we're leaving out we can't even play the

[09:58] clips where she gets a question and

[09:59] Rambles for 5 minutes 7 minutes without

[10:02] answering it that happened we just we're

[10:05] a radio show we don't have the time to

[10:07] play a seven minute uninterrupted clip

[10:09] where it's just not answering the

[10:11] question that was asked uh it's it is an

[10:15] alltime bad interview and I think I I

[10:20] one of obviously I want us to win

[10:21] because I want Trump to be president I

[10:23] want a republican presidency but I also

[10:25] want us to win because that is how we're

[10:27] going to get the tell all me Memoirs and

[10:30] recriminations where all you know all

[10:32] these Democrats are going to come out

[10:33] and they're going to say how did this

[10:34] happen how did this huge blunder of an

[10:37] interview happened and we're going to

[10:38] get we're going to get those oral

[10:39] histories where someone says like oh I

[10:41] saw that clip and then I I buried my

[10:43] face in my hands and I realized it was

[10:45] all over and then I I went into the the

[10:48] bathroom and took a Xanax and puked in

[10:50] the toilet we're g to we're going to get

[10:51] fun Memoirs like that and I really want

[10:53] to read them which is why everyone needs

[10:55] to get their ballots in so that we win

[10:57] in two weeks
