CNN's Van Jones reflects on message Charlie Kirk sent him before he was k*lled

[00:00] you were in the news recently uh for a

[00:02] terrible reason because you had received

[00:06] a message

[00:07] >> from Charlie Kirk right before he passed

[00:10] away and a few days before he was

[00:12] tragically shot. You had had some sharp

[00:14] words uh for Charlie and and some

[00:16] commentary.

[00:18] Charlie had reached out with you to you

[00:20] with a message. Kind of take us through

[00:22] that that back and forth.

[00:24] >> Well, I mean it it's a it's a horrible

[00:27] um thing that happened. I mean,

[00:29] obviously, uh, Charlie Kirk and I

[00:32] weren't friends. We didn't know each

[00:34] other, but you know, we we're both

[00:36] words, not weapons guys. That's the

[00:39] thing about Charlie Kirk. You disagree

[00:42] with him, but he was standing up for

[00:45] dialogue, debate, not weapons, not um,

[00:51] and frankly, there are people on both

[00:53] sides of the aisle that seem to be

[00:54] getting away from that. M

[00:55] >> and I saw him as someone who was

[00:56] standing in the breach keeping

[00:58] especially young people at the table for

[01:01] dialogue. And so um you know in this

[01:04] business sometimes you you do get into

[01:06] public fights with people. We were in a

[01:07] public fight but to his great credit

[01:11] uh he sent me a personal message

[01:14] and we didn't get it and I will always

[01:19] I don't know if I'm ever going to get

[01:20] over the fact we didn't get it until the

[01:22] next day.

[01:23] >> Yeah. So without me knowing it, there's

[01:27] a message for me from Charlie Kirk. I've

[01:30] read that thing probably a thousand

[01:31] times.

[01:33] >> Uh he said, "Come on my show. Let's

[01:37] talk." He said,

[01:39] "The most important thing he said is

[01:42] let's disagree agreeably."

[01:44] >> Yeah.
