Myron Gaines Defends Charlie Kirk's Legacy and Pledges His Support for Turning Point USA
Fresh & Fit co-host Myron Gaines breaks down in real time after learning that Charlie Kirk, someone he knew personally and had been planning to bring on his show, had been killed. He draws a sharp distinction between being killed and being assassinated, arguing that what someone accomplishes in the dash between their birth and death dates is what determines which word applies, and directs that argument squarely at people online celebrating Kirk's death, including commentator Tariq Nasheed. He contrasts that reaction with Nick Fuentes publicly sending condolences despite being a political rival of Kirk's, framing it as a basic act of decency that some of his own viewers failed to meet. Revealing he had a debate scheduled the very next day in Asheville, North Carolina, and had been arranging for Kirk to appear on his own show by the end of the year, Gaines commits to donating a portion of his stream's revenue to Turning Point USA and attending its events going forward, vowing that Kirk's work bringing young people into political engagement will continue.
Myron Gaines Reacts to Charlie Kirk's Assassination
Myron Gaines opens by addressing his audience directly about Charlie Kirk's death, admitting he is still in shock and hasn't slept.
"It hits different when you speak to somebody and they pass away. It's one thing to see a celebrity tragically killed. It's completely different when you know that individual," he says, explaining that he and Kirk did similar work, going out in public with an open mic to debate strangers directly.
Losers Don't Get Assassinated. Great Men Do.
Gaines draws a firm distinction between the words "killed" and "assassinated."
"Charlie Kirk wasn't killed. He was assassinated. Losers don't get assassinated. Great men do," he says. "When they put his birthday and his death day, and there's that little dash in between, that dash is why he was assassinated. He did a lot in that dash." He argues Kirk was instrumental in making conservative politics appealing to young people and helped drive turnout at the polls, regardless of whether viewers agreed with his politics. "You can assassinate a man, but you can never assassinate an ideology."
Calling Out Those Celebrating Kirk's Death
Gaines directs sharp criticism at people online celebrating Kirk's death, including commentator Tariq Nasheed, and bans anyone in his chat who speaks negatively about Kirk during the stream.
"Does his family deserve this pain? Do his kids deserve this pain? His political ideology aside, do innocent people that love him deserve this pain? The answer is a profound no," he says, describing himself as consistently anti-violence. "We have a serious problem in America with violence from the left... or simply celebrating when someone who is on the right is hurt and or killed."
Even Nick Fuentes Sent His Condolences
Gaines points to Nick Fuentes, a past political rival of Kirk's, as an example of basic decency in the moment.
"Nick can put his differences aside, but some of you idiots can't," he says. "They were political rivals, but he sends his prayers, and some of these scumbags are celebrating his death. It's incredible to me."
A Personal Connection: Plans for a Show Appearance
Gaines reveals he had a debate of his own scheduled the next day in Asheville, North Carolina, and had been quietly arranging for Kirk to appear on his show by the end of the year.
"We were literally planning to have him come on the show, guys, at the end of the year. I was going to surprise y'all with that," he says, urging viewers to call their families and resolve personal conflicts in light of the loss.
Pledging Support for Turning Point USA
Gaines closes by committing to donate a portion of the stream's revenue to Turning Point USA and to personally attend the organization's events going forward.
"I'm going to be at every Turning Point event, and I'm going to show love and support, and I'm going to make sure that Turning Point never dies," he says. "We're going to keep his legacy going. We're going to continue the job that he began when he started Turning Point."
