Tulsi Gabbard Honors Charlie Kirk After Assassination: A Champion of Freedom Who Lived What He Preached

Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard shares a moving tribute to Charlie Kirk following his assassination, reflecting on his unwavering commitment to free speech, his faith, and his impact on countless lives. Gabbard, who was in the White House when Kirk was shot, describes the shock that gripped the administration and draws a powerful parallel between Kirk's assassin and the terrorists of 9/11—both seeking to silence voices they feared. As Air Force 2 brings Kirk's body home alongside his wife Erika and their children, Gabbard remembers a man who inspired others to stand up for constitutional principles, treated everyone with respect, and built a beautiful life centered on God and family.

A Nation in Shock: The Moments After Charlie Kirk Was Shot

President Trump declared that whoever killed Charlie Kirk failed in their ultimate mission. Kirk was the best of America, and the monster who attacked him was attacking the entire country. An assassin tried to silence him with a bullet but failed because together Americans will ensure that his voice, his message, and his legacy will live on for countless generations to come. Because of this heinous act, Kirk's voice has become bigger and grander than ever before.

Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, speaking on camera as one of the few administration officials to do so beyond the President himself, characterized the mood in the administration following the assassination. Gabbard was in the White House when Charlie was shot. When she got the news, there was uncertainty about his condition, but very quickly the worst was confirmed.

"Charlie was a friend to so many of us, a dear friend, someone who inspired countless numbers of people because he truly lived what he preached," Gabbard said. The feeling that gripped the White House was shock—shock that reverberated through the entire administration.

A Man Who Lived What He Preached on College Campuses

Gabbard had the privilege of accompanying Kirk to some of his college campus visits. What she witnessed was remarkable. Kirk actively encouraged people who disagreed with him to come forward. When people would stand in line and thank him for his great work, he would thank them for the kind words and then ask if there was anyone in the crowd who disagreed with him to please come forward and ask their question—and to cut to the front of the line.

His expression of kindness and respect to those he engaged with, even those who walked away still disagreeing with him, really is the inspiration that people can find in their grief at the loss of one of the country's most brave and courageous champions of freedom, champions for the Constitution and God-given rights.

The Investigation: Messages on Bullets and a Political Fanatic

Every agency is using everything in their power to find answers. The FBI and DOJ are working to uncover the full truth behind the assassination. There have been reports about messages on the bullets, though Gabbard could not share details at that time as the FBI was conducting forensics.

Speaking on the anniversary of the terrorist attacks of 9/11, Gabbard drew a powerful parallel. There is a common characteristic between Charlie Kirk's assassin and the Islamist terrorists of al-Qaeda who attacked America on September 11, 2001. Both sought to silence those they did not agree with. Both recognized that their ideologies and views would not stand up to being challenged.

What the shooter demonstrated was using violence to take away Charlie Kirk's voice and his ability to continue to inspire in an incredibly positive way others to exercise their God-given rights to free speech. Al-Qaeda terrorists are so-called religious fanatics. Kirk's assassin is a political fanatic. But these fanatics have to be stood up to. Americans cannot allow them to intimidate people into being fearful and therefore silent.

Air Force 2 Brings Charlie Kirk Home

As Kirk's casket was unloaded from Air Force 2, crowds gathered to honor him. Vice President J.D. Vance accompanied the casket, having carried the coffin of a hero. The scene was remarkable—supporters gathering across the nation, on college campuses, people from all backgrounds showing up to honor a man who changed the course of history.

Kirk was arguably responsible for President Trump being elected. He was a key player whose influence extended far beyond what many realized. He was always there when called upon. When Gabbard picked up the phone and said she could use help, he helped her and so many others, often in times where they weren't even aware of it and would only hear about it thirdhand.

A Deep Love for Country, Constitution, and God

Charlie Kirk deeply loved his country and sincerely valued the principles and values enshrined in the Constitution. He lived this appreciation for freedom and used his life to inspire others to stand up for those principles. He was unabashed about his love for God and his faith, and treated everyone—no matter who they were, no matter their background, no matter their views—with respect inspired by God's love for all people.

Kirk's motivation was pure. The center of his life was his faith in God, which he expressed openly and lived authentically.

A Beautiful Love Story Cut Short

Charlie Kirk loved Erika Kirk and loved his wife deeply. Erika said it was her dream come true marrying Charlie Kirk. He was the one. Those who had the pleasure of being around them witnessed a true love story, a beautiful relationship built on faith and mutual devotion.

Gabbard remembered having dinner with them shortly after President Trump won the election at Mar-a-Lago. She recalled the night the President won when they shared a video. Kirk was live streaming the whole night, and when they announced that President Trump had won the election, Kirk had tears running down his face. Erika was hugging him and holding him in her arms. She said, "Charlie, you did it." Charlie shook his head and said, "No, God did this. This is all praise goes to God. I did nothing."

This speaks to the center of their marriage being God, the strength of their love, their courage, and their commitment to put service above self, to put the well-being of others above their own. Hearts are devastated for Erika and their children. Vice President Vance being there wraps them up in the love that so many have for them and the knowledge that Charlie can now rest in the warm embrace of God's love.

Charlie Kirk is with his Savior now.
