Violence Against Christians and Churches Reaches 415 Incidents as Charlie Kirk's Faith Legacy Lives On
Senator Josh Hawley examines the alarming rise in violence against people of faith, particularly Christians, with 415 reported incidents against churches in 2024 alone. The discussion highlights Charlie Kirk's assassination and his powerful legacy of faith in Jesus Christ, which he prioritized even above his political work. With the Biden administration prosecuting nearly zero of these threats, the conversation explores why attacks on churches, including arson, bomb threats, and shootings, have been largely ignored and under-reported.
A disturbing pattern has emerged in America: violence against people of faith, particularly Christians, is on the rise. During a Senate hearing, this critical issue was brought to the forefront as lawmakers examined the scale and scope of attacks on religious communities across the nation.
"A lot of the violence that we're seeing is actually against people of faith and more particularly it's against Christians. Isn't that fair to say?" a Senator asked. The response was unequivocal: "That's certainly fair to say, Senator."
Charlie Kirk's Legacy of Faith
The conversation turned to the assassination of Charlie Kirk, a prominent figure who was killed just a month after expressing his deepest convictions to the Senator. Kirk, who had been a friend to the Senator for nearly a decade before his death, was remarkably clear about what mattered most to him.
"What he said was he wanted to what the legacy he wanted to leave was a legacy of faith. What he wanted to be known for with his was his faith in Jesus Christ," the Senator recalled. Kirk's boldness in publicly proclaiming his Christian faith, even when he could have focused solely on politics, made a profound impression.
"I thought he was just incredibly bold about saying that publicly all the time, you know, when he could be talking about politics. And sure, he talked a lot of politics, of course, but what he really talked about was his faith," the Senator explained.
The Senator expressed a conviction that many share: "You can't tell me that that did not play into the reason that he was killed."
Alarming Statistics on Violence Against Churches
The numbers paint a grim picture of the current state of religious freedom in America. According to the Center for Religious Liberty, 2024 saw 415 separately reported instances of acts of violence against churches in the United States.
These incidents include:
Arson
Bomb threats
Firearm incidents and shootings
Vandalism
Perhaps most troubling is the response—or lack thereof—from federal authorities. The Biden administration prosecuted approximately zero of these particular threats during their time in office.
The Theological Nature of Human Conflict
When asked about the reason behind this massive uptick in violence against people of faith and Christians, the witness provided a profound observation, citing Cardinal Manning: "All human conflict ultimately is theological."
The witness explained that many of the biggest policy debates in recent years "have really been anthropological and religious in nature. What is a man? What is a woman? These kinds of questions."
"And there is no doubt, Senator, that the attacks widespread and increasing on churches has been under reported and ignored in some cases entirely," the witness concluded.
The hearing underscored a disturbing reality: as cultural battles intensify around fundamental questions of identity, purpose, and truth, those who hold to traditional Christian beliefs increasingly find themselves targets of violence—violence that often goes unaddressed by those charged with upholding the law.
