Ballistic Evidence in the Charlie Kirk Assassination Case

Ballistic evidence became one of the most contested elements of the case against Tyler Robinson, the man accused of assassinating Charlie Kirk. On the Joe Rogan Experience, Rogan and Theo Von discussed reports that investigators were unable to conclusively match bullet fragments recovered from Kirk's body to the bolt-action rifle tied to Robinson, with Rogan noting as a hunter familiar with rifles that being unable to identify a match is not the same as ruling the weapon out entirely. Defense attorneys later filed motions built on the same gap in the forensic record, using it to request a delay in the preliminary hearing while they reviewed the case's hundreds of thousands of files independently. Prosecutors countered by pointing to a broader body of evidence beyond the disputed bullet match, including a former campus police officer's discovery of what he described as a sniper pad on the rooftop, DNA and fingerprint evidence connecting Robinson to a screwdriver and a towel-wrapped rifle recovered in nearby woods, and a written confession note that court filings say Robinson gave to his roommate. Enhanced surveillance footage later shown in court captured the shooter assembling the rifle and firing from a prone position, which legal analysts following the hearings described as the most damning piece of evidence in the case.
