During congressional testimony that drew more than 4 million views within 24 hours, Candace Owens argued that literacy rates deserved more attention than the hearing's official focus, citing a claim that 75 percent of Black boys in California cannot read as an example of what she considers the real crisis facing Black America compared to the topics Democratic committee members chose to emphasize. Owens also cited Black-on-Black homicide statistics in the same exchange, arguing that Democrats focus on issues she considers less relevant to improving outcomes in Black communities. A separate video features Owens arguing that Black Americans living in the United States today are, in her words, the luckiest Black people in human history, a claim she has made while promoting her book Blackout.
