Nordic countries became Charlie Kirk's go-to example whenever a debate opponent cited Norway or Sweden as proof that socialism could work in America. In one campus exchange, Kirk countered a student's Nordic-model argument with economic freedom rankings, immigration policy comparisons, and defense spending data, arguing that Nordic prosperity comes from strong property rights and open markets rather than the redistributive policies usually associated with the term socialism. Candace Owens brought a related Nordic reference into her debates with feminists, citing Nordic happiness studies as evidence that Scandinavian gender equality hasn't actually produced greater life satisfaction for women. Kirk's own feminism debates returned to the same well repeatedly, including a formal Cambridge Union exchange where a student named Tilly directly challenged his use of self-reported happiness surveys, arguing he was drawing causal conclusions from correlational data. A separate, older debate against Hasan Piker of The Young Turks touched on similar generational disagreements about which economic model, American or Nordic, actually serves young people better.
