Tommy Barnett: The Pastor Behind Charlie Kirk's Phoenix Church
Showing 9 Tommy Barnett videos from Charlie Kirk's video collection.
Tommy Barnett is the pastor whose ministry philosophy of finding needs and filling them built Dream City Church in Phoenix, Arizona, the venue where Charlie Kirk held many of his Freedom Night in America events and hosted guests including Pastor Gary Hamrick and historian Bill Federer. Barnett described in his own account starting with just 76 people in Davenport, Iowa, before growing that congregation to 4,000 through an aggressive bus ministry that brought in people other churches wouldn't welcome, then later rebuilding a second congregation from 200 people in Phoenix into one of the region's largest churches through a similar approach, including outreach programs addressing human trafficking. Barnett separately argued that government expansion into education and social services gave many churches an excuse to abandon responsibilities they once held directly, citing the removal of prayer and Bible reading from public schools as the specific turning point that forced churches to build parallel institutions like Christian schools in response. Kirk's own appearances at Dream City Church, including his announcement of the Freedom Square movement and conversations about local school board activism in Loudoun County and Scottsdale, took place within the institutional and physical space Barnett's ministry philosophy built over several decades.
