[00:00] Hello and welcome back to Trigger Smart.
[00:02] I am out here at the range. I hope you
[00:04] guys appreciate this because it is
[00:05] freezing out here and I'm going to be
[00:07] doing some testing. I'm going to be
[00:10] shooting. But here's the interesting
[00:11] part. I'm testing frangible ammo. So, I
[00:15] had my source at 10, Jacques. I had him
[00:18] go out and check and see if he could
[00:19] find some frangible ammo. He was not
[00:21] able to find 306 frangible. There are
[00:25] World War II like stock piles of it and
[00:27] stuff like that. And there are some very
[00:29] rare companies that make it that you
[00:30] might be able to source, but he has a
[00:33] FFL and a business that regularly
[00:35] sources this stuff. And he couldn't find
[00:37] anything except 5.56. So today I'm
[00:39] shooting 5.56 French ammo. And we're
[00:41] going to be hitting several things.
[00:42] We're going to be testing on the rubber
[00:44] mat material. We're going to be looking
[00:46] at obviously our fruit, our water,
[00:50] cinder blocks, wood, and then of course
[00:55] our steel. Now, typically we are going
[00:57] to expect that any hard surface like the
[00:59] Cinder black and the steel are going to
[01:02] work properly with the French ammo. The
[01:04] real question is, is it going to work
[01:06] when we hit something softer? I also got
[01:08] some pork shoulders to test it out.
[01:10] They're about the size of a human neck
[01:11] for most people. And then I got this
[01:13] nice chunky ribeye over here. And I
[01:15] apologize for the shooting in the
[01:16] background if it's loud, but I have this
[01:18] nice ribeye here with a chunky bone in
[01:19] it. And we're going to see if we can get
[01:20] that frangible ammo to break on it. All
[01:22] right, guys. Here we go. So, I'm going
[01:24] to be shooting all these different
[01:25] items. Some are going to be with full
[01:26] metal jacket first of each item and then
[01:29] we're going to do frangible rounds of
[01:30] Fosi's each item and then after we're
[01:32] done then obviously we're going to
[01:34] compare the damage and that kind of
[01:36] stuff. The thing that's interesting is
[01:38] that based on the research that I've
[01:39] done, these fantable rounds will
[01:41] probably pass through just about
[01:42] everything except maybe the cinder block
[01:44] and the steel. I'm actually really
[01:46] curious if it's going to stop in that
[01:47] bone on that beef, but we'll find out.
[01:50] And I'm shooting my 105 stag arms. Has
[01:54] the vel suppressor. And then of course
[01:56] we have our full metal jacket and our
[01:58] frangible rounds here. And we're going
[02:00] to start off with steel with
[02:02] non-frangable full metal jacket
[02:09] and wood full metal jacket.
[02:15] All right. Now we're switching over to
[02:16] frangible.
[02:18] We're going to shoot the steel first
[02:26] and then we're going to shoot frangible
[02:28] at the wood.
[02:32] All right, next we're going to shoot at
[02:33] the infinity target and that is the
[02:35] rubber mat material and I highly
[02:37] recommend their targets. They're pretty
[02:38] awesome, but we're going to see if the
[02:39] frangible acts any different. So, we're
[02:41] going to shoot full metal jacket first.
[02:43] 55 grain.
[02:51] Now, frangible.
[03:00] Now, I can see from here the fangible
[03:02] round started breaking up more and
[03:03] there's more paint splatter, but I'm not
[03:05] sure if that's going to make a
[03:06] difference as far as the uh damage and
[03:08] stuff like that that actually happened.
[03:09] that. Let's go check it out. And I know
[03:11] you guys are probably jealous of how
[03:13] awesome I look. All right. So, first, if
[03:15] you can see this here, this hit right
[03:17] here, this was the full metal jacket.
[03:20] And this hit right here, that's your
[03:22] frangible. So, you can see some of the
[03:23] powder and stuff that came off of that.
[03:25] And then we come over here to the wood.
[03:27] This one right here, that's the full
[03:29] metal jacket. And that one there, that's
[03:31] the frangible. Let's check the back.
[03:34] And as you can see, they both came
[03:36] through. French went right through the
[03:38] wood.
[03:39] No issues. And here was the full metal
[03:42] jacket here. And then the fangible here.
[03:45] And based on that hole, it looks like it
[03:48] just went straight through. There was no
[03:49] breaking up or anything when it hit that
[03:50] hard rubber. All right. So, this is the
[03:52] fun part where I get to test my accuracy
[03:54] and uh see if I don't destroy my own
[03:56] cameras. So, we're going to start off
[03:58] with full metal jacket on the left. So,
[04:00] everything that I shoot right now is
[04:02] going to be full metal jacket on the
[04:03] left side. Let's see how it goes.
[04:07] Cantaloupe.
[04:14] pretty uneventful. All right, now let's
[04:16] go ahead and do our pineapple.
[04:27] All right. And now let's do the water.
[04:31] Okay. A little bit more eventful. Now,
[04:33] there are some benefits of frangible
[04:35] when it comes to home defense as well.
[04:38] not, you know, for over penetration and
[04:39] that kind of stuff, but some people say
[04:42] that it's not as effective. All right,
[04:44] now we're going to go to frangible on
[04:46] the right side. First, we're going to do
[04:48] our cantaloupe,
[04:58] pineapple,
[05:08] and next we're going to go to our water
[05:11] bottle.
[05:13] All right, let's clear and check it out.
[05:17] I'm shooting at about 50 yards. So, my
[05:20] first impressions is that the full metal
[05:22] jacket did not cause as much damage as
[05:24] the fangible. But, let's check this out.
[05:26] All right. So, let's look at our
[05:27] entrance. This is with the full metal
[05:30] jacket. So, pretty clean. Pretty clean
[05:33] going in.
[05:35] That's our exit,
[05:38] right? That's that cavitation and that
[05:40] exit wound people talk about. All right.
[05:42] Next, we have our pineapple. It's kind
[05:43] of hard to see there, but there's your
[05:45] entrance right there.
[05:48] Right here. And again, it says full
[05:50] metal jacket. There's your exit right.
[05:53] Pretty obvious. A lot of damage blown
[05:57] out the back. And the water bottle. You
[06:00] can kind of see the clean hole there.
[06:02] And then the back, of course, is blown
[06:04] out. Made a big mess.
[06:09] All right. Now, we're going to look at
[06:10] the frangible side.
[06:12] So what's interesting
[06:15] on the French, this is the entry wound.
[06:19] So definitely bigger, split it open. But
[06:21] now look at the exit.
[06:24] Almost identical.
[06:26] So that exit is almost identical. Then
[06:30] you have your pineapple. And now on this
[06:31] one, you can see that entry wound is
[06:34] bigger on the frangible. So it was
[06:37] already breaking up when it hit. Now I
[06:40] can't see any obvious residue or
[06:41] anything. I can't see any powder.
[06:44] Now look at the exit,
[06:47] right? Pretty blown out. But again, I
[06:49] don't see any powder or anything.
[06:53] You know, I'm looking in the wound and I
[06:55] don't see
[06:57] I don't see any traces of it like
[07:00] exploding into a powder and I don't see
[07:02] any on the table. And then of course we
[07:05] have our pretty clean entry
[07:09] and broken out the back just like the
[07:10] other one. Okay. So now you saw what
[07:13] happens with the fruit, the steel, the
[07:15] rubber, and the water jugs and that kind
[07:17] of stuff. But now let's compare this to
[07:19] actual flesh and see if we can kind of
[07:21] replicate what may have happened and see
[07:23] if we can get especially on the bone in
[07:25] beef. See if we can get that to actually
[07:27] stop the frangible round or not have it
[07:29] blow the back out. But now we need to
[07:31] test out this French round on flesh
[07:33] because if they're saying that it was a
[07:34] 30 out 6 frable round, we need to see if
[07:37] any French round would work. In this
[07:38] case, it is 5.56. Not exactly 1 one with
[07:41] 30 six, but it's the same idea. So the
[07:43] next thing I'm going to do is I'm going
[07:44] to shoot a pork roast. And some of you
[07:46] going to say, why is the plastic still
[07:47] on it? Well, to me, that's almost kind
[07:49] of functioning like the skin, right? And
[07:51] uh plastic obviously tears and rips
[07:54] pretty easily when it's shot. So, I want
[07:56] to kind of simulate how the skin kind of
[07:58] holds things together, right? It is
[08:00] elastic. It has some give, but I left
[08:02] that on for that reason. And then after
[08:04] that, we're going to shoot our roast
[08:05] that has a bone. And first, we're going
[08:07] to shoot full metal jacket at the left
[08:09] pork roast.
[08:21] Now, we're going to shoot frangible pork
[08:23] roast. All
[08:37] right, let's go check it out. By the
[08:39] way, this Frenchville ammo is a dollar a
[08:40] round. All right, now remember some of
[08:42] you were saying that it could have been
[08:43] like a 5.56 closer or some kind of
[08:45] pistol round or something. And um I
[08:48] mean, look at this. All right. Now, this
[08:51] goes to show you what people are talking
[08:53] about when you can barely find or never
[08:55] see an entry wound. Look at that. You
[08:57] have the little plastic right there.
[09:00] That tiny little hole
[09:04] right there, right above my thumb.
[09:06] That's the entry. You can barely see it.
[09:08] All right,
[09:11] that's your exit.
[09:13] And you can see in this case obviously
[09:16] there's some cinder block in it because
[09:18] [clears throat] the cinder block was
[09:19] right behind it. Blew that out. Now
[09:22] that's just with 5.56. That's not even a
[09:24] 30 out 6, which is significantly more
[09:26] powerful. All right. Now
[09:29] look at the center block.
[09:32] Went straight through the front. Now
[09:34] let's see if it went through the back.
[09:35] Shattered the whole thing. Okay. Now
[09:37] looking inside, you can see it destroyed
[09:40] everything. But it looks like it did not
[09:43] go all the way through. So it didn't go
[09:44] through the back, but it did crack the
[09:47] back. Okay. All right. Now we're looking
[09:50] at frangible.
[09:52] And you can see similarly very very
[09:56] small entry wound. Now remember these
[09:57] are like 22 size bullets. Get 556 223
[10:00] but very small on the inside. Let's see
[10:02] how the back looks.
[10:05] All right. All right. Now, on the back
[10:06] of this, you can see it's still blown
[10:08] out
[10:09] and there is some concrete
[10:13] from the center block in it, but you can
[10:15] see it's still blowed out. So, you would
[10:18] definitely see an exit wound. And then
[10:21] on this one, it did not go through this
[10:24] under block. It didn't even crack this
[10:25] under block, but it did take this chunk
[10:27] out here, right? But the frangible
[10:30] bullet has broken up down here.
[10:35] And you can actually see
[10:38] some pieces of it there. The frangible
[10:41] when it hit something hard, it did break
[10:43] up. So now we're going to test it on
[10:44] this beef with the bone in it and see
[10:46] what happens. All right. Now here's the
[10:48] grand finale. Is this 5.56 fangible ammo
[10:51] that we saw break up on the concrete
[10:52] block? Is that going to hit the bone
[10:56] after going through the flesh that's
[10:57] about the same thickness as a human
[10:59] neck? And is it going to kind of break
[11:01] and explode on impact? Or is it just
[11:03] going to shatter the bone and then hit
[11:04] the block behind it? You're gonna say
[11:06] this looks pretty thin and weak. Well,
[11:08] from the side, look at the thickness.
[11:11] That's about the same as those pork
[11:13] roasts. About the same as a human neck.
[11:15] So, I'm going to shoot right through the
[11:16] lower part of it and it's going to hit
[11:18] that bone in the back. And what we're
[11:20] trying to see is is it going to go
[11:22] through the flesh and stop at the bone
[11:25] with the French round or is it going to
[11:27] go through and hit the center block? And
[11:29] if you guys appreciate me doing this in
[11:30] the freezing cold, not like Jesse in
[11:32] heavy duty country wearing tank tops out
[11:34] in Texas, hit that like button.
[11:51] Look like a pretty good shot. All right,
[11:54] make sure we're clear.
[11:59] All right. So, here's what we have.
[12:00] Pretty sizable entry hole. Some pretty
[12:03] good damage. Nice wound cavity. Come on
[12:06] the other side. And I That was a pretty
[12:08] direct hit, right? That went straight
[12:09] through that bone. Blew out the side and
[12:12] went straight through the bone. And it
[12:14] wasn't a edge shot, right? So, the holes
[12:16] actually closer to the middle. And you
[12:19] can see that bone that's thicker than
[12:21] human vertebrae
[12:23] went right through it. Blew it out. And
[12:26] it also made another big chunk out of
[12:29] that cinder block. All right, so what's
[12:31] the takeaway here? Well, we shot just
[12:34] about everything you could think of,
[12:35] hard and soft. Obviously, we have to
[12:36] look at the slow-mo, but I mean,
[12:39] frangible ammo 5.56 223
[12:43] has less power, less footbs of force
[12:45] hitting. It can be a fast round and it
[12:48] is smaller, but in this case, it went
[12:50] straight through, straight through the
[12:51] bone, everything else. So, I would say
[12:53] even with a fangible 300 6 that has
[12:56] significantly more power at the 140
[12:58] yards, I would say fangible is not going
[13:01] to make a difference. It's still going
[13:02] to blow his neck out. As always guys,
[13:04] like, subscribe, and share this around.
