Charlie Kirk Declares the Conservative Movement Changed Fundamentally and We Call the Shots Now

December 30, 2024

Charlie Kirk delivers a passionate declaration that the conservative movement has fundamentally transformed from cowering in corners to calling the shots. Rejecting labels of radicalism, Kirk argues that simple asks like securing borders, teaching reading and writing instead of graphic content to children, and prioritizing American citizens over foreign aid make progressives the true radicals. He celebrates the shift where conservatives have become the media, pointing to declining legacy media viewership and credibility. Kirk frames Elon Musk's Twitter purchase as the most important acquisition since the Louisiana Purchase, enabling conservatives to challenge narratives in real-time. This moment, he insists, represents a divine reprieve for America to reload and build an even stronger movement.

The Conservative Movement Has Fundamentally Changed

Charlie Kirk opens with a powerful observation about the transformation within the conservative movement. For years, the establishment wanted conservatives to be quiet, afraid, silent, and subservient—to cower into their corner. But that era has ended. Kirk emphasizes that the conservative movement has changed fundamentally, and this shift cannot be lost. It must be leaned into with full force.

The message is clear: conservatives call the shots now, not the media, not the oligarchs, and not Washington D.C. This isn't about capitulating to power structures that have long dismissed conservative voices. It's about reclaiming agency and refusing to be defined by those who seek to silence dissent.

Simple Asks Painted as Radical

Kirk addresses how the media characterizes conservative demands as radical or revolutionary. But when examined, these asks are remarkably simple and grounded in common sense:

  • A secure border
  • Children learning reading, writing, and arithmetic instead of being exposed to graphic content at young ages
  • Founding documents mattering more than Federal registries and bureaucracies
  • The Constitution as the law of the land
  • Three branches of government, not four
  • American citizens prioritized first when money is appropriated, not Ukrainians

Kirk flips the script, arguing that it's not conservatives who are radical—it's the opposition. They have been the radicals for quite some time, pushing agendas that undermine foundational American principles while projecting their extremism onto those who simply want to preserve what works.

We Are the Media Now

One of Kirk's most striking points centers on the media landscape transformation. For years, conservatives have complained about mainstream media bias, corruption, and dishonesty. But Kirk declares a new reality: "We are the media now, not them."

Their power is fading and waning. No one reads their content. Their subscriptions are plummeting. CNN has fewer views than Hallmark movie reruns—a particularly pointed jab considering the holiday season. Kirk notes the confusion between Hallmark and Lifetime but brushes it aside with humor. The point stands: legacy media is increasingly irrelevant.

This shift represents more than just declining ratings. It represents a fundamental transfer of cultural power and narrative control from gatekeepers to ordinary citizens who refuse to be silenced.

The Most Important Purchase Since the Louisiana Purchase

Kirk makes a bold historical comparison when discussing Elon Musk's acquisition of Twitter. He believes it was the most important singular purchase since the Louisiana Purchase for America. This isn't hyperbole in Kirk's view—it's an assessment of the platform's impact on free speech and conservative mobilization.

Since Musk bought Twitter, conservatives gained the ability to speak their minds freely and challenge narratives in real-time. Kirk asks his audience to consider all the things that would have simply happened without the ability to challenge them. The purchase didn't just preserve a social media platform; it preserved the capacity for millions to participate in public discourse without algorithmic suppression or ideological censorship.

Conservatives Are in the Driver's Seat

Kirk asserts that conservatives are now in the driver's seat, serving as the cultural force that is ascendant. Meanwhile, the opposition—"the bad guys"—are scattered, confused, and afraid. This represents a complete reversal from the defensive posture conservatives maintained for decades.

But Kirk is clear that this position comes with tremendous obligation. Being the cultural force means responsibility for what comes next. It means not squandering the opportunity that has been given.

A Divine Reprieve to Reload

In Kirk's view, this moment isn't accidental or merely political. God gave conservatives a reprieve so they can reload, lean in, and make the conservative movement stronger than ever before. This framing places the current moment within a larger spiritual and historical context.

There was a time, Kirk admits, when there was genuine debate about whether God was done with America. But now he can say confidently: no, God is not done with America. The greatest country ever to exist in the history of the world still has its best days ahead.

This isn't triumphalism for its own sake. It's a call to steward the moment wisely, to build on the momentum, and to ensure that the fundamental transformation within the conservative movement becomes permanent rather than temporary.
