Charlie Kirk is the Founder and President of Turning Point USA, the largest and fastest growing conservative youth activist organization in the country with over 250,000 student members, over 150 full-time staff, and a presence on over 2,000 high school and college campuses nationwide. Charlie is also the Chairman of Students for Trump, which aims to activate one million new college voters on campuses in battleground states in the lead up to the 2020 presidential election. His social media reaches over 100 million people per month and according to Axios, he is one of the "top 10 most engaged" Twitter handles in the world. He is also the host of “The Charlie Kirk Show,” which regularly ranks among the top news shows on Apple podcast charts.

Charlie Kirk on the Greatest Political Comeback in American History and What Comes Next

Charlie Kirk reflects on what he calls the greatest political comeback in American history, from the dark days of January 2021 when the MAGA movement was declared dead, to Donald Trump's victory on November 5th. Kirk credits divine intervention for Trump's survival in Butler, Pennsylvania, and celebrates the grassroots activists who never gave up. He issues a warning to Republican senators: confirm Trump's cabinet nominees or face primary challenges. Kirk argues that conservatives now control the cultural narrative, young men are more conservative than they've been in 50 years, and the movement must stay engaged to capitalize on this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to transform America.

From Exile to Victory: The Impossible Comeback

Charlie Kirk opened his address at America Fest by acknowledging the profound shift from January 7th, 2021, when political observers declared the MAGA movement dead. At that time, Donald Trump faced an uncertain political future, supporters were being imprisoned for entering the Capitol rotunda, vaccine mandates were being enforced, and the southern border remained wide open. The country seemed to be slipping away from conservative control.

However, Kirk emphasized that the people in the audience—those who never wavered in their support for Trump—became the foundation of what he calls the greatest political comeback in American history. The obstacles they faced defied human reason: lawfare designed to imprison Trump for 700 years, bans from every major tech platform including Facebook, Google, Pinterest, and even Spotify. The establishment did everything possible to make Trump disappear.

But Kirk highlighted the fundamental problem with this strategy: while you can exile one man to Mar-a-Lago, you cannot make 75-80 million Americans disappear. The movement persisted through individuals on college campuses who continued fighting for conservative causes despite being graded differently, kicked out of class, smeared and slandered.

Divine Intervention in Butler, Pennsylvania

Kirk made clear that he believes the victory on November 5th cannot be attributed solely to human effort. Instead, he credits God Almighty for saving the country and providing four more years of Donald Trump. He pointed to the assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 13th as evidence of divine protection.

The country was, in Kirk's view, inches away from civil war when Trump happened to turn his head at a specific moment to look at a PowerPoint presentation—an unusual occurrence at MAGA rallies. That exact timing caused the bullet to graze his ear rather than take his life. Kirk described this as grace that Americans did not earn and did not deserve.

Rather than playing it safe after the attempt on his life, Trump did more events and insisted on continuing outdoor rallies. Kirk used this to illustrate Trump's character, noting that the moment of crisis revealed who he truly is. When Trump fell to the floor, rose up, and shouted "fight, fight, fight," it became an anthem and clarion call for the entire movement.

Choosing the Right Thing Over the Easy Thing

Kirk reminded the audience that Trump did not need to run for president. He could have cut a deal at any point, especially after the FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago in August 2022, which Kirk characterized as a final warning shot. The message was clear: don't run for presidency, cut a deal, golf for the rest of your life, or face federal prison.

Trump faced a choice between doing the easy thing or the right thing. Kirk emphasized that if there's one lesson to teach children, it's that you must do the right thing even when it's challenging. Trump knew what he was signing up for—indictments from Fani Willis and Alvin Bragg, a show trial in New York, the threat of 700 years in federal prison. He could have avoided all of it by simply not running.

According to Kirk, every gutless politician of the last 40 years would have cut that deal. They tried to take Trump's business empire, they tried to cut him off completely, but something drives Trump that is different. Kirk identified this as love—love of beautiful things, love of country, love of the home that Americans inherited and were tired of seeing abused. Trump loved the nation so much that he put his entire business empire on the line and was willing to take a bullet to save America for future generations.

The Cultural Reversal of the MAGA Hat

Kirk illustrated the cultural transformation that occurred by asking someone in the audience to throw him their MAGA hat. He reminded everyone that back in 2016, wearing the hat on the streets of New York was like open hunting season. In 2021, wearing it could result in serious consequences. But something fundamental changed, proving that the good guys can win if they push hard enough.

When Kirk went to college campuses during the election cycle, he initially ordered a couple hundred MAGA hats because students wanted them. The demand exploded—he went from ordering thousands to handing out 5,000 hats at the University of Georgia alone. The MAGA hat transformed from a symbol used to label people as terrible or Nazis into the coolest, most desirable item in American politics.

This transformation didn't happen overnight. It happened because people refused to accept the names they were called and kept wearing the hat. When labeled racist, they responded with indifference and continued wearing it. The hat became a symbol of strength, resolve, grit, and American masculinity returning to culture. It represented the demand for American greatness without apology, support for mass deportation, and the determination to take back the nation.

Building a Broad Coalition

Kirk credited Trump with brokering an incredible political deal over the summer: Democrats got Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger, while Republicans got Bobby Kennedy and Tulsi Gabbard. Suddenly, the MAGA hat represented not just common sense but people from various political backgrounds coming together.

The movement welcomed parents' rights advocates, Second Amendment enthusiasts, school board members, pastors, and Make America Healthy Again supporters. As long as people could agree on the big issues—that the country is collapsing and needs to defeat the incumbent regime—they were welcome aboard to make America great again.

A Movement That Outworked the Machine

The victory on November 5th resulted from grassroots hard work: chasing ballots, registering voters, delivering powerful sermons before the election, showing up at 7:00 a.m. Republican meetings to distribute yard signs. Kirk emphasized that this victory belongs to the activists in the audience.

Elections are ultimately one army of activists versus another army of activists. Despite being outspent, conservatives outworked their opponents because they wanted it more. Kamala Harris had a billion dollars, which Kirk sarcastically suggested she sent to China and Ukraine. The conservative movement was up against the most powerful, well-funded machine in American political history, but the movement defeated the machine.

Many in the room were not oligarchs or billionaires, but they could knock on a thousand doors or chase 100 ballots. In Arizona specifically, Kirk revealed that Turning Point Action made a promise to invest the greatest ground force Arizona has ever seen. They hired over 1,000 full-time people and chased over 200,000 low-propensity ballots.

Kirk proudly announced that Arizona was the best performing swing state of the 2024 election, and Trump agreed to attend America Fest specifically as a tribute to Arizona for giving him his greatest victory ever in the state. This happened because of hard work and grit, proving that things can change and Americans don't have to accept the premise of decline.

The Fight for Trump's Cabinet Nominees

After celebrating past achievements, Kirk shifted focus to the present and future, warning that the transformation of the Republican Party is not yet complete. He issued a direct challenge: if you are a Republican from a deep red state who voted for Joe Biden's nominees and are now giving Donald Trump a hard time about his nominees, you will be primaried and removed from office immediately.

Kirk addressed red state senators directly, stating that the 20,000 people at America Fest, the million watching online, and the millions who will see clips are not going to tolerate a Republican Party that gets in the way of the will of the people. They want a Republican Party that fights to win.

He demanded that every U.S. Senator confirm Pete Hegseth, Tulsi Gabbard, Kash Patel, Bobby Kennedy, Pam Bondi, and Trump's entire cabinet, or face an immediate primary challenger. The goal is a Republican Party as conservative as its voters, one that is responsive to the people and listens to what they want, not one that changes completely after going to Washington D.C.

Defeating the 1,500-Page Spending Bill

Kirk highlighted the power that activists demonstrated in just the previous 24 hours. Congress was trying to pass a 1,500-page continuing resolution that Kirk described as a ridiculous, sick, twisted, and concocted Democrat boondoggle giveaway. Under old circumstances, it would have simply passed.

But new voices emerged. Social media, led by Elon Musk and millions of citizens, combined with President Trump's leadership to say no to a 74% Congressional pay raise while Americans are crushed by inflation, no to more money for Ukraine, no to overseas biolab spending boondoggles, and no to immunity for the January 6 committee.

Within hours, activists defeated Washington insiders, and the continuing resolution died. Kirk emphasized the power that people in the room and watching online possess—they accomplished this defeat rapidly. The new continuing resolution went from 1,500 pages to four or five pages, and President Trump will get what he asked for: a clean slate and a debt ceiling increase to pass the biggest, baddest, and best border bill in American history as the first piece of legislation.

However, Kirk warned that improvement will only continue if people stay engaged in grassroots efforts—knocking on doors, taking over local precinct committees, and starting Turning Point USA high school and college chapters.

Young Men Are More Conservative Than Ever

Kirk celebrated that young men are the most conservative they have been in over 50 years. When asked by a reporter to explain this phenomenon, he provided a simple answer: young men want to be part of a political movement that doesn't hate them. In fact, they want to be part of a movement that considers them essential to the country's future.

The culture needs strong men and strong women. Kirk argued that Americans are sick of hearing about toxic masculinity when society is actually drowning in toxic femininity and a feelings-based culture where people constantly worry about offending others.

He identified Donald Trump as the most overtly masculine political figure of the last 100 years—a man who never apologizes for America, stands proudly for tradition and history, doesn't care what sensibilities he offends, and calls Justin Trudeau "Governor." In many ways, Kirk argued, the election was more about culture than politics—about who Americans are as a people and what they're doing to the next generation.

Conservatives Control the Culture Now

The establishment wanted conservatives to be quiet, afraid, silent, and suburban—to cower in a corner. But Kirk declared that the conservative movement has fundamentally changed, and this transformation must not be lost. Conservatives now call the shots, not the media, not oligarchs, not Washington D.C.

Kirk listed the conservative agenda, noting how simple and reasonable it is:

  • Secure borders
  • Children learning reading, writing, and arithmetic
  • Founding documents mattering more than federal registries and bureaucracies
  • The Constitution as the law of the land
  • Three branches of government, not four
  • When money is appropriated, American citizens come first, not Ukrainians

Kirk argued that these positions make the left the radicals, not conservatives. The left has been radical for quite some time, while conservative positions represent common sense.

We Are the Media Now

Kirk addressed the media landscape, acknowledging that conservatives have grown up saying the media is terrible. President Trump said exactly that at his first ever MAGA rally, which Kirk revealed took place in the same building where he was speaking.

But Kirk delivered an important message: "We are the media now, not them." The traditional media's power is fading. Subscriptions are declining, and CNN has fewer views than Hallmark movie reruns. The old media is increasingly irrelevant.

What is relevant is the democratization and decentralization of media. Kirk stated that when Elon Musk bought Twitter, he believed it was the most important singular purchase since the Louisiana Purchase for the country. The acquisition gave Americans the ability to speak their minds and challenge things that would have otherwise happened without opposition.

Kirk suggested that without Twitter, conservatives might not have been able to expose Joe Biden's cognitive decline to the American people, since the media wasn't doing their job. He argued that the media should immediately lose their government-issued licenses for the malpractice of covering for Biden's senility.

A Once-in-a-Lifetime Opportunity

Kirk concluded by emphasizing that conservatives are now in the driver's seat and ascendant, while their opponents are scattered, confused, and afraid. However, this position comes with significant obligation. The posture should not be one of invincibility or celebration of greatness, but rather one of humility—acknowledging that conservatives are in charge of something they didn't fully earn but have an obligation to deliver on.

This is a once-in-many-lifetimes opportunity to fill the government with change makers. Kirk invoked Romans 1:22, noting that God will use all things for good for those who love Him. The four years of exile from 2020 to 2024, which felt unjust at the time, were actually God's way of making the movement stronger.

The exile separated frauds from real people, revealed true character, expanded ranks, and created greater desire when backs were against the wall. Kirk speculated that if conservatives had won in 2020, the second term might not have been that great—just a continuation. Second terms are almost never as good as first terms. But now, the movement gets almost two first terms, with a team ready to change the world and bring America back to greatness.

The Call to Action

Kirk urged attendees to soak in the America Fest conference as the first major Turning Point event where they could celebrate what has been accomplished while keeping focused on the future. He called on people to:

  • Start Turning Point USA college chapters
  • Start Turning Point USA high school chapters
  • Start Turning Point USA 501(c)(3) chapters
  • Find out how churches can get involved
  • Sign up and become activists

America Fest, Kirk explained, is the starting point for taking America to greater heights in 2025. He reminded attendees to remember how lost and directionless they felt a year ago, and to understand that rather than having won everything and being able to take it easy, God gave the movement a reprieve to reload, lean in, and make the conservative movement stronger than ever before.

The conference offers resources in the exhibit hall where attendees can find life-changing opportunities—future jobs, future friends, and maybe even future spouses. Kirk encouraged a posture of activism and action, promising four days of energy and enthusiasm with the greatest slate of speakers in the country.

He closed with confidence: there was debate about whether God was done with America, but now Kirk can say confidently that God is not done with America, and the nation's best days are ahead.
