The Winners of 2018

Charlie Kirk identifies three major winners from 2018, starting with an unexpected choice that hasn't received enough attention: Jared Kushner. Kirk argues that Kushner had significant policy wins throughout the year, most notably his tireless work on prison reform legislation. While acknowledging it was a team effort championed by President Trump, Kirk credits Kushner with working for months to shepherd the bill through both the House and Senate. Additionally, Kushner's team helped secure both the World Cup and Olympics bids for the United States, and played a key role behind the major trade deal with Canada and Mexico.

Kirk's second winner is one he admits hurts to acknowledge: socialists. He emphasizes that while he opposes socialist policies through his work at Turning Point USA, the political reality is that socialists made measurable progress in 2018. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez garnered a disproportionate amount of media attention, and socialists gained more positions in state houses and the U.S. Congress than they held the previous year. Kirk warns that the Democrat Party is quickly transforming into the Democrat Socialist Party, or simply the Socialist Party.

The third winner is Donald Trump himself. Kirk argues the President survived relentless attacks from the left and media while overseeing historic economic achievements including the lowest ever unemployment rates for Black Americans, Latino Americans, and Asian Americans, along with 4% economic growth. Despite everything thrown at him, Trump emerged stronger.

Predictions for Socialist Momentum

When questioned whether socialists might fall off the winning list once their policies are implemented under Nancy Pelosi's leadership, Kirk clarifies his position. He's not saying socialist policies are winners, but rather that socialist politicians definitely made progress. He believes that as Americans see socialist policies in action, similar to what's happened in Portland and San Francisco, they'll reject them. Kirk predicts 2019 won't be as favorable for socialists as 2018 was.

The Losers of 2018

Kirk's first loser is the Democrat mob, pointing to their tactics during the Brett Kavanaugh Supreme Court confirmation hearings which dominated the fall news cycle. He describes how Democrats used intimidation tactics against those supporting Justice Kavanaugh. Kirk references his personal experience when he and Candace Owens were confronted by an antifa mob while trying to eat breakfast in Philadelphia. The mob arrived within 20 minutes, attempted to storm the restaurant, and threw water at them in an effort to intimidate them out of the establishment.

The second loser category includes anti-Trump Republicans, specifically naming Bob Corker, Jeff Flake, and John Kasich. Kirk argues these figures did everything possible from within the Republican Party to destabilize the President, yet Trump emerged more popular than ever with Republican voters and reached 50% approval rating among all voters. Now these politicians have exited the political stage, no longer serving as senators or governors. Kirk notes there's very little oxygen left for anti-Trump Republicans in the party, as the grassroots conservative base wholeheartedly supports Trump's economic reforms and policies.

The third loser group consists of European globalists, particularly Emmanuel Macron, Theresa May, and Angela Merkel. Kirk describes their very tough year, with Paris in flames during protests, a fumbled Brexit deal in England, and Merkel facing crisis in Germany. He argues all three leaders share similar governing styles that prioritize the European Union above their own countries' needs, resulting in internal rebellion. Kirk contrasts their struggles with Trump's reforms that have America booming, noting it's been a tough year to be a European globalist but a great year to be American.

Looking Ahead to 2019

When asked about predictions for 2019, Kirk expresses confidence it won't be a good year for Democrats. He argues they'll have to articulate what they stand for to the American people: bigger government, less freedom, open borders, and more crime. Kirk believes President Trump will draw a stark distinction between his accomplishments over two years and what Democrats are proposing, setting the table nicely for a convincing 2020 reelection. He points to the border wall fight as an example of Trump picking the tough fights Americans elected him to fight. Kirk also notes the Democratic primary will feature numerous candidates competing for the 2020 nomination.
