Don Jr. Honors Charlie Kirk: A Brother, Martyr, and Champion of Faith, Family, and Country
Donald Trump Jr. delivers a powerful memorial tribute to Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, who was assassinated while championing conservative values on college campuses. Speaking to 100,000 attendees, Don Jr. reflects on their deep friendship, Charlie's unwavering faith in Christ, and his courageous commitment to debate over violence. This emotional address calls for a million more voices to rise up and continue Charlie's mission of welcoming all Americans who believe in faith, family, and freedom.
Donald Trump Jr. took the podium to honor Charlie Kirk, describing him as a little brother and one of the most courageous voices in the conservative movement. Known more for his provocative social media presence than emotional displays, Don Jr. admitted he was truly devastated when he received word that Charlie had been assassinated. Speaking before 100,000 people, he emphasized that they gathered not just to mourn, but to celebrate how Charlie lived and remember how he changed countless lives.
Don Jr. began where he knew Charlie would want him to: with Charlie's relationship with Jesus Christ. When asked in an interview how he wanted to be remembered, Charlie said he wanted to be remembered for his courage and his faith—words that proved far from empty.
Standing with the Martyrs
Don Jr. drew a parallel between Charlie Kirk and Stephen, the first martyr of the early Christian church described in the book of Acts. Stephen was stoned to death for his faith, and as he died, he declared, "Behold, I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God." Don Jr. noted that while Jesus is typically described as seated at the right hand of God throughout the Bible, this is the only instance where He is standing. Though scripture doesn't explicitly explain why, Don Jr. believes Jesus stood to welcome the courageous martyr into heaven.
This image brought Don Jr. great comfort. As a cowardly assassin crawled on his stomach to end Charlie's earthly life, Don Jr. expressed his conviction that Charlie saw the Son of God standing tall to welcome him home.
Family as Charlie's Greatest Treasure
Don Jr. highlighted the greatest treasures of Charlie's heart: his wife Erika and his two children. Watching Charlie with his family—the joy on his face, the devotion in his eyes—was to witness the gospel lived out. For Don Jr., it was deeply inspiring.
In the face of unthinkable loss, Erika has shown extraordinary courage, not only as a mother but also in stepping forward to carry on Charlie's mission as CEO of Turning Point USA. Don Jr. emphasized that Charlie always brought out the best in everyone around him.
Courage on College Campuses
Don Jr. recalled how Charlie first approached him during the 2016 campaign with the idea of holding events on college campuses. His initial reaction was skeptical—conservatives had largely given up on reaching young people on campus, figuring they'd come around once they started paying taxes. But Charlie convinced him to give it a shot.
What followed were some of the most challenging and revealing moments that demonstrated Charlie's bravery. At Michigan State University, just five minutes before they were scheduled to go on stage, state police informed them they could no longer guarantee their safety due to aggressive left-wing activists. It seemed like a perfect reason to leave. But Charlie refused to back down, insisting they go out there anyway.
Similarly, at one of the final events of the 2024 campaign at Arizona State University, a threat was called in to try to keep them off the stage. Once again, they went out there without fear, with Charlie leading the way. His message then remains his message now: we will not back down, we will not be intimidated.
Do Not Be Afraid
Don Jr. pointed out that the Bible says over a hundred times, "Do not be afraid." The 100,000 people gathered that day sent a signal to the world that their message of faith, family, and country will not be silenced.
What always amazed Don Jr. was how Charlie chose to use his platform. Charlie had one of the largest microphones in the entire conservative movement, and what did he do with it? Day after day, week after week, he handed it to the very people who opposed him most. The media tried to smear him as some sort of dangerous radical, but Charlie embodied something at the very core of the conservative movement: when people disagree, the response isn't to silence them, destroy them, or sink to violence.
Debate, Not Destruction
Don Jr. emphasized the stark contrast between the conservative approach and that of their opponents. Conservatives don't burn down businesses, don't scream at children at Disneyland. Instead, they debate. They stand tall and win with their ideas. The true extremists, he argued, are those who justify and celebrate taking an innocent life over nothing more than disagreement. That is the real radicalism, and it must be rejected completely.
Charlie delighted in his belief that people could be persuaded. He believed the way to win hearts was with truth, courage, and conversation. He was always the first to say, "You are welcome here."
A Million More Charlies
Don Jr. issued a challenge to everyone present: if we truly want to honor Charlie properly, his loss cannot be the end of the story. His legacy must be that when they took his life, a million more Charlies stepped up to fill the void. "We are all Charlie," he declared.
He asked the crowd directly: Will you surrender? Will you back down? Will you give up in fear? The resounding response made it clear the answer was no.
An Invitation to All Americans
Don Jr. concluded with an open invitation to the millions watching, echoing Charlie's welcoming spirit. Charlie's message, like Christ's, was an invitation. Americans are not alone. If this resonates and you believe American values are worth defending, you are welcome. If you believe in faith, family, and freedom, you are with us.
No matter your past, no matter how you've voted, no matter where you come from, this movement is your home. The invitation extended to all:
If you believe in God, family, and country, you are one of us
If you believe government should put citizens' interests first, welcome
If you believe American workers deserve dignity and families should afford a good life on one salary, welcome
If you reject the propaganda of fake news media, welcome
If you want to eradicate criminal cartels and get drugs out of communities, welcome
If you believe America's best days are ahead and are willing to stand up to make America great again for your children and generations to come, welcome
Charlie loved this country, its people, and the work of persuading others to believe in something greater than themselves. If we live with that same courage, our legacy, like Charlie's, will live forever.
Don Jr. closed with a direct message to his friend: "Charlie, my brother, we love you. We miss you. And we will not let you down." And as scripture promises: "Well done, good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of your Lord."
