[03:39] duty and honor must be upheld for him,

[03:42] but also justice must be done.

[03:48] And that justice began with the pull of

[03:50] a trigger.

[03:52] It leads to video,

[03:55] leads to evidence, eyewitnesses.

[03:59] It then leads to trial.

[04:02] It then leads to sentencing.

[04:07] there have been many times

[04:10] already today where people ask me, "But

[04:12] Jack, as a Christian, are we not called

[04:16] to forgive?

[04:19] Should we not then forgive and let

[04:23] bygones be bygones?" It's not how it

[04:25] works. And I see a lot of people

[04:28] misunderstanding

[04:30] the Bible's teaching on this,

[04:32] misunderstanding what Charlie said about

[04:35] this, misunderstanding

[04:37] so much of our Christian duty here.

[04:41] There is a difference between the

[04:43] personal and the public.

[04:46] You have a personal duty

[04:50] to seek forgiveness. You do.

[04:55] God will only forgive

[04:58] upon

[05:02] repentance.

[05:05] God only forgives upon repentance.

[05:08] You are also not required to forgive if

[05:11] there is no repentance.

[05:13] But we are asked to.

[05:16] The public authority on the other hand

[05:19] has a different situation.

[05:22] The public and legitimate authorities,

[05:24] as

[05:26] Christian teaching tells us, legitimate

[05:28] public authority has the right and duty

[05:32] to inflict punishment proportionate to

[05:34] the gravity of the offense.

[05:37] Proportionate to the gravity of the

[05:40] offense.

[05:43] What could be more proportionate? What

[05:46] would require more proportionality

[05:49] than an attack on our very way of life?

[05:52] An attack on our civilization,

[05:55] an attack on who we are. War has been

[06:00] waged against society,

[06:03] by evildoers,

[06:05] by those who deny our right to exist,

[06:10] to exist, to oppress us.

[06:14] This cannot be allowed. This cannot

[06:17] continue.

[06:19] And when a life is taken

[06:21] in a war on society, then the only way

[06:24] to protect society and prevent

[06:28] future instances of this is the ultimate

[06:32] punishment,

[06:35] the capital punishment.

[06:38] And this is what Charlie supported. This

[06:41] is what Charlie stood for and argued for

[06:44] and defended many times.
