Greg Farrington Remembers Charlie Kirk as Modern-Day Billy Graham to Younger Generation
Greg Farrington, pastor of Destiny Christian Church in California and close friend of Charlie Kirk, reflects on the conservative activist's profound impact on faith and young people across America. Farrington describes Kirk as a modern-day Billy Graham who brought biblical truth to a confused culture, seamlessly integrating his Christian faith with conservative values. In an emotional tribute following Kirk's passing, Farrington shares how hundreds of young people gathered at his church to mourn the loss of a voice for their generation. He recounts Kirk's courageous support of churches during COVID-19 lockdowns and his ability to speak truth in challenging times.
Vice President Vance Accompanies Casket to Arizona
Vice President J.D. Vance helped carry the casket of Charlie Kirk as it touched down in Arizona. Second Lady Usha Vance held the hand of Erika Kirk as the casket was brought back to the state where Turning Point USA is headquartered. The location has become a memorial, with other tributes including prayer circles and vigils for the conservative activist being remembered as a warrior for faith.
Charlie Kirk's Views on Faith in America
In a previous interview, Kirk addressed the importance of religion in modern society. When asked how important religion is in this day and age, Kirk responded emphatically: "Very important. America is becoming more secular and country becoming less godly. We are more depressed, suicidal, et cetera."
Kirk, who identified as a Christian, explained his faith journey: "I grew up in passive Christian home, gave my life when I was 5th grade."
Thousands Gather at Destiny Christian Church
At Destiny Christian Church in California, thousands gathered to pay tribute in a special Bible study. Greg Farrington, a friend of Charlie's who watched football with him and spent Sundays together, spoke about the incredible loss.
A Modern-Day Billy Graham
Farrington described the impact Charlie had on faith, especially among young people: "Charlie was a modern-day I believe Billy Graham to a younger generation. Amazing impact. He was a truth-teller in a culture that doesn't paint things in black and white, just very confused. Charlie was able to cut through minutia and young people gravitated to that."
Farrington spoke to hundreds of 20-somethings who gathered at his church. "They are mourning the loss of a voice of their generation," he said.
Franklin Graham's Tribute
Reverend Franklin Graham wrote about Charlie Kirk on Facebook: "This young man loved country and invested time and energy in making it the best it could be. He stood for conservative values and defended free speech for all of us. Most importantly, Charlie loved the Lord Jesus Christ."
Integrating Faith and Politics
When asked how Charlie brought together the concept of conservatism and love of Christ, Farrington explained: "That was his foundation, the word of God, the Bible. That is where he found his truth and everything flowed out of that. He did not separate the two worlds. His world view was one of biblical Christianity and his involvement in politics flowed from that foundation he built in Jesus Christ."
Personal Connection to Destiny Church
Farrington shared how his congregation is processing the loss: "Charlie was a friend of Destiny Church in Rockland, Sacramento, had been with us many times. He was loved by so many in our congregation, a close friend of ours. We watch football together, big Oregon Ducks fan."
The congregation is feeling the loss of a personal friend who influenced their church in a significant way.
Standing Strong During COVID-19
Farrington recalled Kirk's support during the pandemic: "During COVID he reached out to us. We were one of the few churches open in California. He said what request I do to encourage your people and he came out and as you can imagine, the crowds, even in 2020, with all restrictions our governor put on us was amazing and incredible."
"He would speak the truth, calling our governor tyrant and church leaders cowards for not opening the doors. He was a truth teller, magnet for all generations, especially younger generation," Farrington added.
