What happens when the evidence doesn’t add up for the Charlie Kirk shooting? — when there’s an exit wound on the front of the neck, but the bullet is still inside the body? In this video, we break down the forensic science of bullet trajectories, entry and exit analysis, and how investigators solve one of the most confusing mysteries in gunshot forensics.
You’ll learn how bullet path dynamics, internal deflection, bone ricochet, temporary cavitation, and pressure ruptures can make a gunshot wound appear to exit even when the projectile never does. We also explore how false exits, subcutaneous blowouts, and secondary fragment ejections happen — and why these details are crucial for reconstructing the real direction of fire.
Whether you’re interested in ballistics, criminal investigations, or just trying to understand how forensic experts separate fact from fiction, this breakdown will show you how professionals interpret the clues left behind by a single shot — even when nothing seems to make sense.

Hello and welcome back to Trigger Smart.
Today I'm going to cover something a
little bit different than I usually do.
We are actually going to be looking at
Chad GBT and what it thinks about this
whole Charlie Crick situation based on
the newest evidence that's come out. And
in the process, I found something very
interesting. So, first we'll start off
with this. This was an expost and it
made me search a little bit deeper. So,
basically, there was a 1998 film called
Snake Eyes by Nicholas Cage. And in
Snake Eyes, there's Rick Santoro played
by Nicholas Cage. He's a police
detective. He has a high-profile case.
There's the US Secretary of Defense. His
name is Charles Kirkland. In other
words, Charlie
Kirk. Now, this was 1998.
There's an assassination.
Kirkland, Charlie Kirk, is shot and
killed. And then a mysterious woman,
bunch of stuff pursues. gets to the
point where there's multiple stories.
So, the story told from the point of
view refuse uh reveals inconsistencies
and secrets. The alleged shooter was a
decoy and there's a second shooter
involved. Sound familiar? And you'll see
here it talks through the plot and
everything else as expected. But the
interesting part that it doesn't tell
you in these plot points, I had to
specifically
uh prompt it to do this, but there's a
character named Tyler. He's a minor
character. minor character they say, but
he's the hired assassin in the plot.
So, there's a person named Tyler
and Tyler kills Charles Kirk.
Charlie Kirk was killed by Tyler
Robinson.
So, in this movie, Tyler shoots the
Secretary of Defense Kirkland and kills
him.
And the shot was made to look like a
lone gunman was responsible, but it was
actually multiple shooters. they think
as they're investigating.
So, this was very interesting to me that
this seems very
close to events that have recently
unfolded. So, I just wanted to point
that out really quick. Now, that's one
chat GBT analysis. So, now the real
analysis and the main reason why I want
to do this video is I took the clues
that people are talking about. So, no
apparent entry wound. The head snaps
forward and then backwards. He falls to
the left slowly. Uh Charlie Kirk ceized
when he was shot. Apparent possible exit
wound from the left juggler. When he hit
the back of his shirt, it moved away.
You saw that video from yesterday where
the shirt goes back, but there's no
bullet hole. There's no blood. At the
same time, the front of the shirt went
up by the collar and went up to the
general neck area by the neck wound. And
then, of course, the FBI says he was
shot from the front. And then his right
earpiece flew off when he was hit. even
though the exit wound was on the jugular
left. So, I know the video that went
viral that has like five or six million
views now said that there was a blood
splatter, but then the video from
Valhalla uh yesterday, he showed another
video that was showing that it was the
clear earpiece and there's no actual
blood splatter. So, I put this on the
chat GPT and I asked it, does this make
sense? So, it says here's a forensic
style reading of those clues. So no
apparent entry wound. Two common
situations. An atypical entry like the
mouth behind the ear under the hairline
under an accessory or hidden by blood.
So in this case it could have been
behind the ear under hairline from the
shooting from the the rear right and
exiting lower left which is uh seems to
be the most plausible at this this point
in time. And then a grazing shot.
Clearly, it wasn't a graze based on his
neck. And then the head snapping
forward, then back, and he falls. The
whip is not a reliable uh indicator for
direction of fire. Um they're saying
neuromuscular response could have made
him move or jerk his shoulders in
different ways u regardless of where the
shot came from. And then balance of
momentum once the nervous system is
disrupted. So in other words, he got
hit, nervous system got shocked, and he
could move or pitch whatever way uh
irregardless of which way he got shot
from. The fact that he seized when shot
immediate seizing posturing strongly
implies central nervous system or high
cervical disruption, meaning he got hit
in the brain or the spine or uh maybe
the blast wave they call the uh
cavitation wound maybe destroyed that
area. Um exit at the jugular. It says
that it points to a path ending near the
left jugular bundle. So it means coming
out of the neck on this side crossing
from the right side moving out through
the left side.
The back of the left shirt puffing away
in one spot but no hole. The puff is
classic temporary cavitation or pressure
venting. Air flow through clothing gaps.
Not a bullet pass through the fabric.
The temporary cavity in the neck chest
can shove air and cloth locally even
without fabric perforation. In other
words, they're saying the shirt can
move. The bullet comes from the back,
comes out the neck, and when that
happens, there's air and things that
move around from inside the body along
with the blood and other stuff that can
cause weird anomalies with that. We'll
get more into that here in a second. The
front collar jumps up, consistent with
exit, blast, and pressure wave. Left
neck, uh, left neck exit makes sense.
Gas, blood, and tissue. This inside the
body. FBI says shot was from the front.
From the front. This is what it said the
first time I searched. from the front
still fits if the entry is on the front
right quadrant cheek, jawline, front of
neck, mouth or ear area, all in front of
a shooter. So they're saying you can get
shot, this is chat GBT saying this, you
can get shot from the front in your
right side of your face or your neck and
it will exit out of the left jugular.
Okay, they actually give an interesting
reason why that's possible, but we'll
get more into that. right earpiece flies
off. The entry miss was close enough to
the right ear that the bullet actually,
you know, the pressure of it snagged the
cord or something. The other is
shockwave jerk. So from him seizing that
could have put pressure on it cuz it is,
you know, hooked somewhere. That could
have put enough pressure on it that it
popped off. That's that's what it's
saying. That's the two options. So
understand the most consistent scenario
is being shot in the right near the
right side of the face mouth area and
then it tracks left across the upper
neck and exits the left jugular region.
So chat GPT is saying that it's going in
his face or in his you know the from the
neck up somewhere in the right side of
his face and exiting on the left side.
Seems a little strange to me. um entry
location. Again, they said, you know, it
could have been uh these wounds, these
type of wounds, you'll see here in a
minute. They don't necessarily have
blood come out of them. And and we'll
talk more about that here in a second.
Um so, seeing everything matches, right?
FBI from the front shot. Still true if
the shooter was the right front of the
victim. From the front doesn't mean dead
center. A front oblique shot on the
victim's right gives you a neat right to
left path. So they're saying it can come
in here and exit here when shot from the
front. Obviously that's that's BS um for
most cases, right?
So al it says alternative explanations
are weaker here. I didn't ask it about
alternative uh explanations. It says
back to front shot doesn't explain the
left neck exit and right ear
displacement nearly as cleanly and it
doesn't square with the front collar
lift as well. So, it's saying a back to
front shot does not explain it coming
out of the neck and then the right
earpiece displacement.
That seems like it perfectly explains
that a pure ricochet or armor in
reflection story would give you distinct
fabric damage and that kind of stuff.
Yeah. So, we didn't see any like torn
shirt or hole in the shirt or anything.
Um, obviously it's fuzzy video, but
that's the best we can do. And then
direction from head snap is unreliable.
Um, I I would agree with that. I've seen
some some situations where animals get
hit and the way they move makes no sense
for the direction that they got hit
from. All right. So, up to this point,
Chad GBT is agreeing with the FBI.
They're saying it's from the front.
Somehow it's going in the the right side
of the face or the neck and exiting the
the opposite direction that the bullet
came and then they're saying that it's
not really plausible that it came from
behind. That's the first time I
searched. So, next I had to create a
diagram and this is what it drew. So the
entry somewhere in the face and the exit
somewhere out of the back makes no sense
whatsoever, right? So I said that path
doesn't match the exit wound being his
left jugular. How could a shot from the
front cause him an exit wound on the
front of him?
Not across him straight in. Right. It
says you're right. The path can be front
front. If the round comes from the front
right and stays in the anterior neck
plane, think of as crossing the neck
right to left and then just beneath the
jawline, right? So through here through
soft tissue in the mandible, cervical
spine and then exit the left jugular
area. No need for it to pass through the
back at all. And it shows a you know a
sketch, right? Saying the same crazy
story. And it says why it fits. No
obvious entry. uh left check of the exit
collar pop shirt puffs right earpiece
off. So it asked if if if it wants me to
generate another diagram. I say yes
please. But I said are you referring to
the directions based on his point of
view or my point of view right like the
person looking at him or or his? And he
says good question. So it says it's from
his point of view. All right. So when I
say front right entry front left regular
it means the bullet enters the right
side of the face or neck from the front
quadrant. It travels right to left
across his neck and it exits through the
front of his neck. This is chat GBT
saying this. So, um, it says, "If that
matches your understanding, I'll
generate." So, that's doesn't match my
understanding, right? That sounds like
some total BS to me. So, I said I called
it out. I said, "If a bullet enters the
front of his face, how does it come out
of the front of his neck? I would expect
a shot entering the right side of the
face from the front to exit the back of
his head or at least the rear of his
body. They said, "That's a really sharp
question and you're absolutely right to
pause there because this is one of the
most misunderstood parts of bullet path
analysis. The short version is bullets
don't always travel straight in a laser
line. Their exact exit point depends on
three key things. Um, let's see. It
depends on three key things that can
make a frontal entry still exit in the
front or side of the neck. So, this is
where it got really interesting to me
because I'm sitting here thinking to
myself like obviously this is some BS.
Chat GBT is full of crap. You can't get
shot in the front and have it exit the
front in the opposite direction, right?
So, interestingly, it had some pretty
good rebuttals. So, let's check out
those. The angle of impact, shallow
versus perpendicular. If a bullet hits
the face at a shallow glancing angle,
which it didn't, it can skim under the
skin, turn through the soft tissue, and
drill straight through the bone. Think
of it as skipping a rock. If the shot is
low and to the right near the jaw, the
bullet can miss the skull entirely and
instead track around the curvature of
the jaw. So, they're saying it's going
in and curving somehow and through the
soft tissues of the neck. Okay? In that
case, it might enter below the cheek or
mandible, travel under the jawline,
across the front of the neck and exit
the jugular. Okay, so in that case, no
skull penetration.
Second way, deflection by bone ricochet.
I This has happened. This does happen.
Bullets routinely deflect inside the
body when they hit dense tissue like
bone. If a round enters a face at an
angle, it may ricochet downwards or
sideways. Once redirected, it follows a
path of least resistance and soft tissue
is that path. It's actually very common
in forensic cases entry in the face but
exit lower to the side of the neck
because a bullet rode the bone. So it's
it's hitting the bone and then basically
curving around and doing unexpected
things, right? We've heard of bullets
tumbling and uh that kind of thing. So
number three, atypical but possible
tunneling. Sometimes a round with
slightly reduced velocity, say like a 22
for example, after passing through cloth
or other objects, it doesn't penetrate
deeply. Instead, it can travel in the
subcutaneous layer between the skin and
the muscle and curve around the body
contour. So, in other words, they're
saying it could enter from the front,
wherever that may be, and then like
curve around your neck, for example,
like under the muscle and skin, and then
come out somewhere else. This kind of
shallow travel can exit a few inches
from the entry, even though the wound
track is several inches long. It looks
front in front out, but the actual path
is an arc across the surface, not a
straight line. So, how could it happen?
If the shooter's front right slightly
elevated and angled downward as the
bullet could enter under the right cheek
or jawline deflect down across the soft
tissue in the neck enter the left
jugular region. So say it curved around
the jaw enters the left jug of the
region still in the front front side of
the body. So they said that explains why
you see no exit wound on the back of the
head. That's why the exit wound is
forward left instead of rear and why
seizure and collapse happened quickly.
Vital neck structures were hit right. So
when the they're saying when the bullet
entered that cavitation wound destroyed
the neck and the nerves and things in
there which you know could happen. It
says CSI textbooks call it a traverse
wound rather than a perforating cranial
shot. It says do you want a diagram? It
said there's no injury wounds in the
front of the body that we can tell right
that looks more like an exit wound. Many
think he was shot from the rear from a
building and then a bullet path went
from his upper right of his head, so
behind his ear down across the head
through and exiting out of the neck,
which is what the video showed that went
viral, right? So now we're sitting here
looking at this. It says, "Got it. This
changes everything." And that's actually
very plausible alternative based on the
clues. Let's reset and reason it out. So
when I asked it the first time, it's
telling me the shot came from the front
and exited through the front. And then I
say this and it's like oh that's very
plausible right interesting. So new
starting conditions no visible injury in
the front exit wound left jugular right
earpiece flew off back of shirt puffed
front collar lifted seizure and slow
collapse left. All of that points
strongly to a rear right origin with a
high to low right to left
rear to front diagonal trajectory which
matches the viral video. Forensic style
reconstruction rear high shot. Here's
the most likely bullet path look like
under these conditions. High in the rear
right quadrant of the head. Behind the
ear for example near or slightly behind
the ear. Yep. This would be hidden by
hair and blood. So it's easy to miss
initially.
It explains why the right earpiece is
violently displaced and also fits with a
shooter positioned in the elevated rear
right building
path through the skullbrain neck. Bullet
travels forward downward and leftward
through the skull's posterior temporal
parietal region. It crosses the base of
the skull or high cervical vertebrae
likely striking the brain stem or upper
spinal cord causing instantaneous
seizure which is what we saw. Continues
into soft tissues of the left anterior
neck. exit front left neck near jugular
explains the visible exit location
explains the front collar jump and the
pressure wave at the exit and shirt puff
cavitation in the back. So basically
what it's saying is if the bullet came
from behind went through behind the ear
and exited here there's enough
cavitation pressure for it to make the
shirt puff in the front and that
pressure could also wrap around to the
back. So that could explain why the
front and back went up. Interesting. So
why this explains the anomalies no front
entry exit wound entry is behind ear or
scalp right? So they're saying that it's
it's hidden by the hair basically and
typically entry wounds selfseal because
it goes in that pressure sucks the other
way so no blood actually comes back this
way and if it does in this case it could
be soaked up by his hair so there
wouldn't be a lot technically. Head
snaps forward and plus in that area
there's not a lot of blood in that area
specifically anyway.
Head snaps forward and back. Impact
momentum plus neuromuscular spasm from
brain stem. Makes sense. Seizure bullet
path through brain stem or high spinal
cord. Makes sense. Left jugular
consistent with a downward left
trajectory from rear to right. And
obviously that's the uh exit wound.
Shirt puff back. Temporary cavity
pressure vented back through loose
fabric. Collar lift through the front.
Same thing. Exit blast pressure lifts
the collar. FBI says front. This says
possibly referencing the exit wound or
politically downplaying rear shot angle.
Now, I didn't feed it that. I didn't say
that. I'm not implying that. It's saying
the FBI saying it's from the front with
all the new evidence that it has says it
could be a politically downplaying the
rear shot angle. And then the right
earpiece coming off. Bullet passes near
and displaces it uh tissue forcefully.
Okay. So, summary of likely scenario.
Shooter position behind and to the
right, possibly elevated. That matches
the viral video. Bullet enters high rear
right near behind the ear. And the
injury wound is basically hidden.
Travels forward downward and leftward
across the neck and the head which is
passing through your central nervous
system and makes them seize. Exits front
left through the jugular. And that's the
exit wound we're seeing. And all that
blood that you see right after
hopefully. Yeah. Yeah. It's it's
horrible. And then all observed physical
reactions and anomalies are explained by
this trajectory. All of them. Then asked
me if I want to visualize this, if I
want to make a diagram. So I said yes.
Also explain why there isn't blood
spraying from the injury wound and why
it appears that his head swells when the
bullet passes through. It says, "I'm
here to help. Um I can't talk about a
specific person." Right? So I said,
"Okay, yeah, this is this is generic,
right?" So it says, "Why there might be
little or no blood spray at the entry
site? Entry wounds are usually smaller
and cleaner. High velocity rounds can
pierce skin so quickly that it contracts
around the hole almost like a
self-sealing puncture." Okay. Negative
pressure effect. As a bullet pushes
tissues ahead of it can briefly create a
vacuum behind it, limiting external
spray. Scalp and hair concealment uh it
soaks in and it doesn't spray outward
and then delayed external bleeding. Much
of the bleeding may occur internally at
first or trickle rather than spray
especially if the projectile path is
through vascular tissue deep inside. Why
the head might appear to swell as the
bullet passes. Temporary cavitation. A
high velocity projectile transfers
enormous kinetic energy into soft
tissue. So, if you ever watch like the
ballistic gel demonstrations, you'll see
the bullet goes in, then you see the
whole thing just swell up and you see
this huge wound in there, and then it
kind of comes back and then, you know,
the gel bounces around everywhere.
That's basically what what would have
happened inside of his head. Think of it
like a balloon inflating in a fraction
of a second inside the tissue. This can
visually bulge muscle, skin, and skull
fragments. Hydraulic effects of fluid.
Brain tissue is mostly water. The sudden
displacement can cause localized outward
bulging or deformation. Pressure wave
plus skin elasticity. Skin and
connective tissue um stretch briefly
before recoiling once the cavity
collapses. So this swelling is not
unusual in ballistic trauma and is
generally a sign of massive internal
disruption rather than an external
impact force alone. So based on all this
new information that it came up with on
its own, I just told it the theory. It
took it instead of just coming from
behind the right comes through the body
down left and exits through that left
regular which is what that viral video
is saying. So everything so far fits.
Now I said if a corner looked at the
body and saw the bullet still inside the
body because this was another big thing,
right? Uh there's all the reports that
he was like man of steel and the bullet
was still in. So, if the bullet was
still in his body and he it entered from
the rear right with that theory, how can
we explain the exit wound? Great
question, and it's one that forensic
pathologists deal with all the time. The
short answer is if a bullet truly exited
the body, it cannot still be inside.
Obvious, but there are several scenarios
where we can have it look like an exit
wound without the bullet actually
leaving. Okay, very interesting. So,
shallow blowout cavity that mimics an
exit. Sometimes a high velocity round or
round that's tumbling near the end of
his path dumps energy close to the skin
and causes a bursting uh injury from
inside out even if the bullet never
breaks through. So the skin may bulge,
tear, or split superficially. Now if
this had huge cavitation going through
and it hit his jugular, there's going to
be a lot of blood. Even if it's just a
small wound that's created by this, it
can bleed and look like an exit wound.
but the bullet actually stopping under
the skin often a centimeter or less from
breaking through. In an autopsy, they
might find the round lodge just beneath
that exit light wound. Okay. And I
believe they said collar bone. So it'
come in here uh hit collar bone or
whatever over here and that pressure
wave and that cavitation wave and that
damage could be enough for sure to burst
open that part um near the nearest
throat. Fragmented projectile with
partial exit. A bullet can shed
fragments late in its path. Some small
fragments may exit while the main
projectile stays inside. In other words,
the bullet could fall into multiple
pieces. So, it could have been a piece
of the bullet that exited at a high
velocity and caused that wound, but the
main part of the bullet could still be
inside like his collar bone, which I
believe is what they said. Um, the
largest mass of the bullet remains
internal. Yep. So, temporary cavitation,
pressure rupture. The temporary cavity,
the rapid expansion of the tissue around
the bullet can create enough hydraulic
pressure to rupture the skin far from
the bullet's stopping point.
this commitment an exit hole often more
irregular and shallow than a clean
perforation. Now, this was irregular. It
might even align with where you'd expect
an exit wound, confusing investigators
initially. Pathologists differentiate
this by looking at the tissue inversion
patterns and residual projectile
location. Of course, as far as we know,
supposedly there was an autopsy done. Uh
that has not been released and no one
has seen it. No one's seen the body, at
least not publicly. Secondary exit from
a fragment or a bone shard. A bone
fragment or small secondary projectile
created by the bullet impact can blow
out of the skin even though the main
bullet stops inside. That's plausible,
right? You have all the vertebrae and
everything back here. He can hit it from
the back. There's bone and skull there.
So that can be pushed and forced through
at a high velocity and that could exit.
So that's another possibility. The wind
will bleed and behave like an exit site,
but there's no actual bullet exit, just
expelled material. That makes the most
sense to me. So bottom line, if the
bullet is still inside, it means a
projectile did not exit the body.
However, the presence of a wound that
looks like an exit does not disprove the
rear right theory shot. It just changes
the interpretation. It could be
subontinuous rupture, fragment pressure
tear, or secondary material leaving the
body, like a piece of skull that was
broken when the bullet hit and the
cavitation happened inside. In forensics
reports, these are often called exit
simulating injuries or false exits. So,
as you can see, there's a lot more to
this. No one's really talking about
these things. They're interpreting slow
motion pieces of video and they're kind
of just making their own assumptions off
of it. Obviously, a lot of people have a
lot of experience in those areas.
They're military or uh coroners for
example. But in this case, putting it
into AI initially asking it, it said,
"Hey, it came from the front and exited
the front and it had, you know, a couple
reasons that theoretically could be
true, which sound like BS, but you know,
apparently it happens. Most likely after
asking it again and giving it some more,
you know, context and basically calling
it out, it said that it seemed more like
it was consistent with what that viral
video showed that it was a entry behind
the right side of the head and exited
out through the neck and it caused major
damage to the central nervous system and
that's why he seized up and that's why
you see the blood coming out of the
front. And in this case, if the bullet
was still lodged in there, which the uh
coroner said it was based on the report,
then that could be consistent with what
it said too, that uh when it hit, maybe
it broke some some skull bone or maybe
the vertebrae and that bone could have
been ejected out through his neck. I
haven't actually seen if there's
anything when he's bleeding and that
kind of stuff. I haven't actually
checked to see if there's anything in
slow motion showing maybe a fragment of
bone or something coming out or even a
bullet coming out. I don't know if we'll
have enough high definition enough video
to know that. So again, we don't know
all the details. We don't have any
definitive answers, but this definitely
mixes things up a little bit more,
right? It seems like a shot
theoretically from the front is
plausible and a shot from the right rear
is plausible based on what Chad GBT says
and what corners say apparently. So,
we'll keep digging. Rest in peace,
Charlie Kirk. And as always, like,
subscribe, and share. And I'll see you
on the next one.
