[00:00] [Music]
[00:11] All right, folks. There it is. The 4:00
[00:13] bell ring on Wall Street. 4:00 the rest
[00:15] of the world. Certainly here in South
[00:18] Florida, we're thinking about Charlie
[00:19] Kirk. Um, very quickly, numbers. Dow
[00:21] Jones down about 132 points or so. I is
[00:24] my last number on that. Yep. 125. Uh,
[00:28] S&P down about 10. NASDAQ down a little
[00:30] bit as well. Jump over the oil market up
[00:33] a touch up a$127. We don't like that.
[00:35] That's not good news. Gold continues its
[00:38] unprecedented run towards record
[00:41] numbers. 3727 right there. And over on
[00:44] the current the uh cryptocurrency
[00:46] markets doing very well some of them
[00:48] doing very well. Bitcoin's back up over
[00:50] 116,000 almost 117,000. Big number
[00:53] there. Ethereum kind of floundering a
[00:55] little bit. Salana, Dogecoin, the others
[00:58] XRP. Mixed markets in the cryptocurrency
[01:00] market. Gold higher, I'm sorry, gold
[01:03] higher, oil higher. Yep, higher. I will
[01:06] tell you tomorrow's a big big event
[01:08] happening. The Fed will tell us what
[01:10] their decision for interest rates for
[01:12] going forward is they everyone is
[01:14] expecting a quarter point cut in the
[01:16] interest rates. You may see a quarter,
[01:18] you may see a half. If you see a half
[01:20] point cut, you'll see the market go a
[01:21] lot higher. If you see a quarter point,
[01:22] you probably see it go up and then down.
[01:24] And if you see no cut, then you're going
[01:26] to see a market crash tomorrow. That's
[01:27] the facts, folks. All right, let's do
[01:29] this. Take a listen. Listen to this.
[01:32] Also, following the press conference, I
[01:35] am filing a notice of intent to seek the
[01:38] death penalty.
[01:40] I do not take this decision lightly and
[01:43] it is a decision I have made
[01:45] independently
[01:47] as county attorney based solely on the
[01:50] available evidence and circumstances and
[01:53] nature of the crime.
[01:55] >> Well, that was Utah County Attorney
[01:57] General Jeff Gray at today's press
[01:58] conference just moments before we came
[02:00] to air where he discussed every aspect
[02:02] of the assassination of Charlie Kirk.
[02:04] Join me now to discuss is Utah County
[02:06] Sheriff Mike Smith, who you saw in that
[02:08] clip. Perhaps you did while he was in
[02:10] that clip standing next to the Attorney
[02:12] General of Utah. Well, let's welcome
[02:14] Sheriff Mike Smith. Sheriff, good to
[02:15] have you, my friend. Um, so can we talk
[02:18] about this a little bit? There's going
[02:18] to be arraignment of of the the alleged
[02:21] assassin, I guess, within maybe an hour
[02:24] or so. Um, virtual arraignment as well.
[02:27] Tell us what's going on with with with
[02:28] that aspect of the of the investigation.
[02:31] >> It is a virtual arraignment. it will be
[02:34] over WebEx um that he will talk to the
[02:37] judge uh from our county jail
[02:40] >> and sir we had heard that there you know
[02:42] earlier there's some text released where
[02:46] this individual admitted shooting
[02:48] Charlie Kirk that was me maybe some
[02:50] gamer friends or whatnot but I
[02:52] understand is this true he's not
[02:54] cooperating any longer he was at first
[02:56] but he's not cooperating now
[03:00] >> um you know not to comment on it too
[03:02] much but He's he's exercising his
[03:05] constitutional rights. Uh I think
[03:06] they're in the process, I believe, of
[03:08] getting a defense attorney assigned to
[03:10] him and that'll that'll probably uh kind
[03:13] of pan out today a little bit as they go
[03:15] through this arraignment process. But
[03:17] yeah, he's he's going through that pro
[03:20] process.
[03:21] >> Okay. So, let's go through the the the
[03:24] assassination. We we reported it live
[03:27] right here. last Wednesday uh 4:15 is
[03:30] when we we went to public with the fact
[03:32] that Charlie had died from his uh wounds
[03:35] sustained at that point. Talk to us a
[03:37] little about this this rooftop is 200
[03:39] yards away from where Charlie Kirk was
[03:41] was seated under a tent. There are a lot
[03:43] of things. Can we clear up some of these
[03:45] things? What do you know? Tell us what
[03:47] you know about this. Number one, are we
[03:50] absolutely positive this is the actual
[03:53] shooter who do deliver that bullet
[03:56] through Charlie's neck from 200 yards
[03:58] away? has the the bullets recovered. It
[04:00] matches the the gun, but was the the gun
[04:02] was in that kid's hands. We're showing
[04:04] video. That is definitely the gun that
[04:05] he was carrying.
[04:08] >> Yeah. Yeah. You're hearing today from
[04:10] our county attorney from Jeff Gray that
[04:12] there is DNA evidence that is leaking
[04:14] that linking that gun to the individual
[04:18] we have in custody.
[04:19] >> Okay. So, he we know he had that gun.
[04:21] That gun is the gun that dislodged the
[04:23] the bullet that end up killing Charl
[04:26] Kirk. There are other things there.
[04:28] There are people who
[04:30] there was an arrest at the moment. I
[04:32] remember this. I'm watching this live
[04:34] and there was an older gentleman. I
[04:35] believe he's in his 60s who was arrested
[04:36] immediately, you know, and then he was
[04:38] let go fairly quickly. And my thought
[04:41] process was, well, is this coordinated?
[04:43] Was he a diversion? Was he making
[04:46] insinuate actions like he was the
[04:47] shooter so that the actual shooter could
[04:49] get away? What are you are you
[04:50] investigating that?
[04:52] >> Yeah, we're investigating that. Um, and
[04:54] I'll tell you that that individual
[04:56] you're referring to, he's in my county
[04:58] jail right now. U, we have him in
[04:59] custody. Uh, he uh there's no evidence
[05:04] at this point that uh that links him to
[05:07] any sort of collusion with our actual
[05:09] shooter. Um, he's somewhat of a known
[05:11] individual in the community uh
[05:13] throughout the state. And uh
[05:18] you know he he ultimately the words that
[05:21] were said to officers was like you know
[05:23] more of the lines of I did it. I did it
[05:26] and that's why they took him into
[05:27] custody. Um
[05:29] >> so he wait so so he claimed he shot
[05:32] Charlie on scene within moments of the
[05:35] assassination.
[05:36] >> He did. And you know we've charged him
[05:38] with secondderee felony obstruction of
[05:41] justice. And here's the thing with that.
[05:44] um in those critical moments when eyes
[05:46] should have been up looking around
[05:48] trying to spot somebody. I mean, the
[05:50] shooter didn't crawl back off the roof
[05:52] as you see from the video. He got up and
[05:54] ran. Um, but all eyes went to this
[05:57] individual and diverted their attention
[05:59] and uh and kept officers and people that
[06:02] were there from seeing that happen,
[06:04] which I think would have uh led to a
[06:07] much quicker apprehension had we have
[06:09] seen that, not had to go back and pour
[06:11] through, you know, video upon video
[06:13] trying to find this evidence. I I'm
[06:16] assuming FBI, local law enforcement is
[06:20] going to get search warrants and and
[06:22] page through this guy's social media
[06:25] content, his email content to find out
[06:27] if there was any coordination at all.
[06:28] Because it seems very unlikely that a
[06:30] 60some year old guy in in in a an event
[06:34] on on a college campus would jump up if
[06:37] he didn't have prior knowledge after an
[06:39] assassination, a horrific assassination,
[06:41] jump up and claim responsibility.
[06:44] unless there was some sort of
[06:46] coordination for him to be doing such
[06:48] >> all that I don't continue to be uh
[06:51] investigated out but um I don't believe
[06:54] there was any there was any collusion
[06:56] between the two I I don't
[06:57] >> now do you sir now do you sir believe
[06:59] there's any collusion between the
[07:00] shooter and anyone else
[07:04] >> you know I don't I don't rule that out
[07:06] by any means I I think that uh this we
[07:09] need to investigate every single lead
[07:11] every associate every you
[07:14] every transaction and rule that out.
[07:19] >> Did were you guys aware of of this Tyler
[07:22] Robinson prior to this? Does he have any
[07:24] record any record of just calls to the
[07:28] home or or his boyfriend's house or
[07:30] whatever? Any does do the Were the
[07:33] police aware of him at all? Law
[07:34] enforcement aware of him at all?
[07:37] >> Not really. I mean, he he lives in a
[07:39] community that's hundreds of miles away
[07:41] from where this happened. So, he
[07:43] definitely wasn't on our radar and I'm
[07:46] not aware of any glaring uh
[07:48] confrontations or incidents he's had
[07:49] with law enforcement.
[07:51] >> Okay. So, now let's we're there going to
[07:53] be so much information as it comes out.
[07:55] I'm I'm sure they're going to release it
[07:57] to us. Fast forward to
[08:00] Utah uh has cameras in the courtrooms
[08:02] there even for capital murder, capital
[08:05] um pun capital punishment crimes, right?
[08:08] It's so we will see this. And by the
[08:09] way, you guys are seeking the death
[08:11] penalty according to your attorney
[08:12] general. Just want to let the folks know
[08:13] that that's what that was all about. But
[08:15] so there there will be cameras rolling.
[08:17] Do we have any idea when this trial is
[08:19] going to take place?
[08:21] >> I don't. You know, they'll as this goes
[08:23] through the process um it'll be assigned
[08:26] to one of the judges in fourth district
[08:28] court and that'll go onto the docket and
[08:30] then they'll start working on court
[08:32] dates. So yeah, I really can't tell you
[08:35] what that time frame would be at this
[08:36] point. That's completely up to the
[08:38] courts.
[08:39] >> Two more issues with that have so many
[08:41] questions cuz we were again we were
[08:43] here. We were watching this as it
[08:44] happened that unfolded live. There were
[08:46] two individuals. One, we had a young man
[08:48] on two days in a row who was up front
[08:51] and he said there was something very
[08:52] disturbing that happened and I he said
[08:54] well he said there was a guy who jumped
[08:56] immediately after the like right while
[08:57] it was h that guy this guy right on your
[08:59] screen right now jumped up and was
[09:01] celebrating the the assassination of
[09:04] Charlie Kirk. And it you see like who is
[09:07] do we know who he is and has he been
[09:09] investigated?
[09:12] >> Yeah. Um we do and that Yeah. We like I
[09:15] said we are looking at every angle of
[09:17] this. Um we're looking at who was there,
[09:19] you know, who was asking the question at
[09:21] the time that Charlie was shot. All of
[09:24] those things are being investigated and
[09:26] run down. And you know, we if if there
[09:29] are others involved, we want them. and
[09:32] we're not going to we're not going to
[09:33] stop the investigation until we're
[09:34] satisfied that there is no one else
[09:36] involved in this. Another one is there a
[09:39] lot of you know all over social media
[09:40] there are two people g men standing
[09:43] behind Charlie Kirk while the event was
[09:45] going on and there there are some people
[09:47] who believe there were hand signals
[09:48] being given hat tip side of the face on
[09:51] one another hand arm gesture and another
[09:54] one that was repeated a second time
[09:56] could be just coincidental who knows but
[09:58] certainly have you guys brought those
[10:01] two guys in to talk to them what what
[10:04] make just investigate what they have to
[10:05] say Yeah. Yeah. We've talked to I mean
[10:08] those would be people who are involved
[10:10] in with Charlie Kirk himself. Yes. Um
[10:13] and and again I I will tell you this uh
[10:16] having been there firsthand been through
[10:18] this from the moments the first moments
[10:21] till till present there is a ton of
[10:24] information on uh social media and the
[10:26] internet that is misleading and
[10:28] completely false. Uh, a lot of people
[10:30] are coming up with all sorts of
[10:32] conspiracy theories that they just they
[10:35] didn't happen.
[10:36] >> Yeah. No, no, no doubt. And we weed
[10:38] those out. But funny thing about
[10:39] conspiracy theories, Sheriff, I've been
[10:40] doing this a long time. Over time, some
[10:43] of them, most a lot of them tend to be
[10:44] no neither conspiracy nor theory. They
[10:47] happen to be fact. We just we were too
[10:50] >> aggressive in in in going after. I
[10:52] personally cannot fathom what we know
[10:55] what we know about this shooter as the
[10:57] as a soul shooter with with no
[10:59] infrastructure. It just I know he's a he
[11:01] had a gun since he was five or seven
[11:02] years old. I think his parents had
[11:04] showed pictures of that. I get that. But
[11:06] it it just seems too well planned. And
[11:08] this whole idea of the diversion, he
[11:10] gets away, takes, you know, good
[11:12] whatever 10 hours to find the guy. I I
[11:14] just I it's in my gut. It's just a
[11:16] theory right now. I don't think it's
[11:17] going to be conspiracy. So, there were
[11:20] allegedly 6,000 people who signed a
[11:22] petition for Charlie not to show up um
[11:24] on that campus that day. You guys
[11:27] investigating that those 6,000
[11:29] signatures?
[11:30] >> Like I said, we're looking at everything
[11:32] that we have. Um this is a very large
[11:35] and uh multi-
[11:38] faceted uh investigation and
[11:40] everything's being looked into.
[11:42] >> Good. Good. You're providing comfort to
[11:44] a lot of us. Um,
[11:46] >> and you know what? I'm with you on
[11:48] conspiracies. I get it. It, you know,
[11:50] conspiracies is the point now where it's
[11:52] like, um, they're all, you know, all the
[11:54] ones you thought were the worst, you're
[11:56] like, well, it was true. So, um, I get
[11:58] it. Um, even the stuff on the internet
[12:00] that we're seeing, um, we're going back
[12:02] and going, okay, let's make sure that
[12:05] this is what we have here. So,
[12:07] >> we're looking at everything. We want to
[12:08] be as thorough.
[12:09] >> Before I let you go, you're you're a
[12:10] busy man. You got a lot in your hands.
[12:11] You got an arignment coming in in, you
[12:13] know, within an hour. Is there anything
[12:16] in your professional, your law
[12:18] enforcement vibe? Is there anything that
[12:21] doesn't make sense here? Anything that's
[12:23] that's you got the hair on the back of
[12:24] your neck standing up?
[12:28] >> Um, no, not really. Uh, what we're
[12:31] seeing right now, I'm I'm satisfied with
[12:33] the point we are at with who we have in
[12:35] custody. Um, and I am satisfied with the
[12:38] continuing efforts that are that are
[12:41] moving forward to make sure that we
[12:42] haven't missed anything. So, you know,
[12:46] I'll be one that if there's something
[12:48] we're missing, I'm going to be right in
[12:49] the middle of it, making sure that we're
[12:50] following up on it. I I want to answer
[12:52] all the questions as much as anybody
[12:54] does, and I want to make sure this is a
[12:56] rock solid investigation.
[12:57] >> Yes. Yes. Good. Good. Good. You don't
[12:58] want any any courtroom shenanigans by by
[13:02] the defense uh to say it was handled
[13:04] improperly. very quickly. Uh he he may
[13:06] or may not be he was cooperating. He's
[13:07] not now is what we understand. How about
[13:09] the roommate, girlfriend, whatever. Is
[13:12] that person cooperating? And is the
[13:14] family continuing to cooperate?
[13:18] >> Um you know, I'll talk about the family
[13:21] a little bit. That had to be the hardest
[13:23] thing they've ever done in their life. I
[13:24] can't I mean, I can't I put myself in
[13:26] that position and it would break me as a
[13:29] parent to have to do what they did. So,
[13:30] hats off to them. And I, you know, the
[13:33] the cooperation uh from the beginning to
[13:36] turn them into local officials and then
[13:38] I get a phone call from the sheriff in
[13:41] Washington County to tell me, "Hey, I
[13:43] think I have your guy." Hats off to
[13:45] those parents. I can't imagine what
[13:47] they're going through. Uh so the cooper
[13:50] the cooperation level has, in my
[13:52] opinion, been spot on with them to to
[13:55] get us to this point. and the boyfriend,
[13:59] girlfriend, whatever, roommate,
[14:01] >> you know. Yeah, that was asked during
[14:03] the press conference and that's
[14:05] something that uh the county attorney's
[14:08] he for the preservation of evidence
[14:10] wants to keep uh kind of quiet at this
[14:13] minute, but he did read that
[14:16] correspondence between our shooter and
[14:18] his boyfriend and very very damaging
[14:22] information in there. But just the fact
[14:24] that we have that and even I think as
[14:25] you read through those text messages,
[14:28] >> it doesn't appear that this individual
[14:30] was really okay with what our shooter
[14:32] >> Good. Good. All right. Well, you keep us
[14:34] informed, Sheriff. Really good having
[14:35] you on. U appreciate this. We'd like to
[14:38] get you back as as the investigation
[14:39] unfolds. Sheriff uh Mike Smith from
[14:43] Utah. Thank you so much.
[14:47] >> All right, folks. We'll be back two and
[14:48] a half minutes.
[14:49] [Music]
