Pastor Rob McCoy Delivers Powerful Sermon After Charlie Kirk's Murder and the Global Movement That Followed

September 14, 2025

Pastor Rob McCoy delivers an emotional sermon following the murder of Charlie Kirk, reflecting on their friendship, Charlie's impact on an entire generation, and the explosive global response that followed. McCoy draws parallels between Moses and Joshua to inspire the next generation of freedom fighters, revealing intimate stories from their recent trip to Korea where Charlie stood with persecuted pastors. He addresses conspiracy theories, challenges the church to rise from complacency, and declares this the greatest revival in our lifetime. With thousands of churches experiencing overflow crowds and Turning Point USA's chapters exploding from 4,000 to 30,000, McCoy proclaims that what the enemy intended for evil, God is using for good.

A Pastor's Grief and a Nation's Awakening

Pastor Rob McCoy stood before his congregation at Godspeak Calvary Chapel for the third service of the day, every one packed to capacity with overflow sections filled. Across the country, 60 pastors were texting him reporting the same phenomenon in their churches. Something unprecedented was happening in America and around the world following the murder of Charlie Kirk.

"This is our third service. We've got one more to go. And every service has been like it is now. There's people in every single overflow section," McCoy shared, his voice heavy with emotion. This was his third time watching the tribute video to his friend, and it still brought him to tears.

McCoy began by reminding his congregation of a fundamental biblical truth: "You know what the enemy intends for evil, God uses together for good. Some people struggle with that verse." He then shared a statistic that stunned the audience: "Turning Point prior to Charlie's murder had 4,000 chapters across the country, colleges, high schools, universities. Today they have 30,000."

The Origins of a Friendship

McCoy recalled meeting Charlie Kirk in April 2019 at a conservative conference in Ontario, California. He was on a panel with Jack Hibbs and Pastor Tim Thompson when he encountered the young conservative firebrand in the green room, reading a massive book.

"I'm on this panel and it's pastors in politics and I'm the only one holding office of the three," McCoy explained. After the panel, Charlie approached him: "He says, 'I didn't know a guy like you existed.' I go, 'What's that?' He said, 'A pastor in politics.' I go, 'I didn't know a guy like you existed.' And he goes, 'What do you mean?' I go, 'A young conservative.' And we laughed and then later we become friends."

The relationship deepened when McCoy invited Charlie to speak at Godspeak. Charlie's initial response was telling: "Oh, I don't speak in churches." When McCoy asked why, Charlie explained, "They don't want me. I'm too political." McCoy's response changed everything: "That's exactly where you're supposed to be."

Charlie Kirk's Faith and Fearlessness

McCoy emphasized that Charlie's faith was the foundation of everything he did. "Most important thing is my faith in my life," Charlie had said, words that McCoy repeated to the congregation. Despite traveling 320 days a year and rarely being physically present in church, Charlie considered McCoy his pastor.

"He had such a reverence for the word of God in the pulpit," McCoy recalled. "That Sunday he was shaking. I go, 'What's going on?' He goes, 'I'm nervous. I don't ever get nervous.' I go, 'What are you nervous?' He goes, 'I've just never spoken a church before.'"

That first sermon at Godspeak led to Charlie speaking at Jack Hibbs' Calvary Chapel Chino Hills, which McCoy described as a launching pad: "Jack gave him a platform that launched him into the stratosphere. And Charlie's now spoken over a thousand churches."

The Birth of TPUSA Faith

Charlie's concern for the church's growing weakness led to the creation of TPUSA Faith, a division of Turning Point USA focused on ministering to pastors. "At the beginning of the week, prior to Charlie being shot, we had about 4,000 partner churches at TPUSA Faith. I got word today it's doubled," McCoy announced to applause.

The financial response was equally staggering: "Over $10 million in the last 48 hours has flowed in to TPUSA through merchandise purchases. This has created an awakening across the world. Not just America, the world."

The Korea Connection: Fighting Global Tyranny

McCoy shared a remarkable story about Charlie's recent trip to Korea, revealing the international scope of Charlie's influence. The trip was organized by Mina Kim, a young Korean woman who had started Build Up Korea, the equivalent of Turning Point USA in her country.

"She started to take conservative news channels and conservative voices and translate them into Korea on her YouTube and she got a million followers and she was changing the entire country. And so they came and guess what they did? They shut her down because a lie can't survive in the presence of truth."

The political situation in Korea had deteriorated dramatically. "I want you to imagine President Trump being assassinated or put in jail or Kamala winning after the four years of that previous administration, then having her step into office. Can you imagine where we'd be? Well, that's where they are in Korea right now," McCoy explained.

The new Korean president had done something unprecedented: "He raided the churches. Who does that? Churches." McCoy was emphatic in his condemnation: "If you have any connection to government, let's get to the president and tell him don't give Korea 15% tariffs. Give him 300% tariffs. You mess with the bride of Christ. You're done."

Pastor Son's Arrest and Charlie's Promise

During the Korea trip, Charlie met with Pastor Cho (Pastor Son), the pastor of the largest church in Busan with 15,000 members. Pastor Son was the only megachurch pastor in Korea who kept his doors open during COVID and had organized marches of over 3 million people in five cities against legislation legalizing homosexuality and transgenderism.

Pastor Son was facing imminent arrest. "Charlie looked at Pastor Son, took a picture with him. He said, 'Let's get that because we're going to use it for the radio broadcast. If they arrest you, I will personally call the Secretary of State.' And Pastor Son was comforted. And Charlie meant it."

Pastor Son was indeed arrested shortly after Charlie returned to the United States. "They have him in ropes. They're not allowing us to see him until next week. A pastor tied in ropes and what are his charges? He dared to endorse a candidate from the pulpit."

Charlie had gathered all the information and was prepared to feature Pastor Son's case on his show and contact the Secretary of State. "He was going to put feet to it as soon as he finished his first campus event and a bullet went through his neck and that voice fell silent."

Confronting the Media's Complicity

McCoy didn't hold back in his criticism of the media's role in Charlie's death. He quoted from a statement he had given to the press: "Charlie built Turning Point on the power of the spoken word. He wasn't a violent man. Never got into confrontations, physical confrontations. He just wasn't a violent man. And he built turning point on the spoken word and he honored his detractors."

"Every day those who couldn't contend with his logic and his reason, the logos, which is a Greek word that you find in John chapter 1, in the beginning was the logos. In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God, and the word became flesh and dwelt with man."

The pastor's anger at the media was palpable: "Those that couldn't contend with him threatened his life every day. Endless death threats, threats to his family, fed by the narrative, which was a lie. They can't contend. They only have ad hominem attacks. He's a racist. He's a Nazi. I'm so sick of the terms. And the media itself is complicit to the trigger being pulled."

Addressing Conspiracy Theories

McCoy took time to address the conspiracy theories circulating online about Charlie's murder. "The stupidity of the internet. Oh, signals. Really? You're going to put that garbage out that they were giving hand signals? That was Frank Turek. He was covered in blood because he was giving Charlie CPR. He's an apologist for the Christian faith."

He defended Dan, the security guard who had also been targeted by conspiracy theorists: "Dan is a believer. I love that man. Why didn't he check the roof? I don't know. I do know that they do. I know they have a limited detail. President Trump was shot. Kennedy was shot. RFK was shot. Where were they?"

McCoy's message to conspiracy theorists was direct: "You had a man raised in a God-fearing home that got twisted and indoctrinated. And everyone who was involved in lies with subtlety of deception without any fact, you're participating and you've got blood guilt."

The Global Response: England and Beyond

The international reaction to Charlie's murder was extraordinary. McCoy showed video footage of massive demonstrations in England: "5 million people took to the streets of England" following Charlie's death. This was the same country where Charlie had debated at Oxford and Cambridge, inspiring a nation where prayer in front of abortion clinics had been outlawed and flying the British flag could result in arrest.

Similar scenes unfolded in Korea, with massive crowds gathering in the streets chanting "We love Charlie Kirk." McCoy also mentioned hearing from their missionary in Cambodia: "She says all the kids in Cambodia are excited about Charlie Kirk. This is happening all over the world."

Erika Kirk's Supernatural Strength

Throughout the sermon, McCoy praised Charlie's widow, Erica, for her supernatural strength during this impossible time. He referenced a previous video where Erica had spoken about her husband: "I have to say this without getting emotional, but I'm very proud of my husband and I know many of you are too. You have worked so hard and I know a lot of you have seen obviously his videos on TikTok and all the stuff he does on campus but no one gets to see him from my angle except for myself and our children and the sacrifices that he made this year."

Charlie had responded: "I would not have been able to do any of it without Erica. And that's the real truth."

Now Erica faced the unimaginable task of telling their two young children that their father would never come home. "I saw little Gigi running out to Charlie on Fox and Friends. That rests with Erica to tell her two little ones, daddy's not coming home. They're going to be raised with distant memories of their daddy."

The Ideology Behind the Violence

McCoy read from a statement by Pastor Landon Schott of Fort Worth, Texas, which articulated what many were thinking: "Today we celebrate the life of Charlie Kirk, a 31-year-old God-fearing Christian man, a husband, a father of two, a patriot, a civil rights activist, and now a Christian martyr. The blood of the martyrs is the seed of the church. It birthed the church. It's only fitting that a martyr would awaken the church."

Pastor Landon's statement continued: "Make no mistake, this was not random. We are in a spiritual battle. The same murderous spirit that raged against the prophets that crucified Christ and that martyred Stephen is raging again in our day. Its fruit is clear. Transgender ideology is not compassion. It is demonic."

The statement pointed out a disturbing pattern: "Look at the evidence. Nashville, Denver, Philadelphia, Minneapolis, shooters identifying as trans, non-binary, or gender fluid. This ideology radicalizes people into violence. And the media and politicians who celebrate it pour gasoline on the fire. And they share in this blood guilt."

A Challenge to Lukewarm Christians

McCoy didn't spare lukewarm Christians in his rebuke: "To the pretend Christians who are more loyal to a political party or to the color of their skin than to the word of God and to their Christian family, you're not one of us. If you feel more connected to someone who's the same color as you than someone who shares the same faith as you, then your identity is in culture and not in Christ."

He continued: "The lukewarm church must repent. Stop pretending you serve Jesus while embracing sin and compromise. Stop hiding behind both sides of the story. Stop fearing the world more than you fear God. Choose this day whom you'll serve."

The Joshua Generation: Moving Forward Without Charlie

The heart of McCoy's sermon drew from Joshua chapter 1, where God speaks to Joshua after Moses's death. "After the death of Moses, the servant of the Lord, it came to pass that the Lord spoke to Joshua, the son of Nun, Moses's assistant, saying, 'Moses, my servant, is dead. Now therefore arise, enough with the mourning. Arise and go over this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I'm giving to them.'"

McCoy explained the parallel: "Moses had educated three to five million people to remind them that they're God's chosen people, just like Charlie educated an entire generation. You're Americans. You don't know what that means because you've been indoctrinated by the sludge that they feed you at these stupid universities."

Just as Moses got the Israelites out of Egypt but Joshua had to lead them into the promised land, Charlie had awakened a generation, but now others must lead them forward. "Don't lead from the grave. There's not going to be another Charlie Kirk. That wasn't my intention."

Mikey McCoy and the Succession Plan

McCoy spoke about his son Mikey, Charlie's chief of staff, and his role in Turning Point's future. "Everyone's worried about the leadership of TPUSA. Don't. He was wise enough at 31 to put together a plan for succession. It's very clear what they decided and they're implementing it now."

He shared how Charlie had trained Mikey through what seemed like mundane tasks: "Charlie would call him and say, 'Hey, listen. Done with the meetings. I got to ride with somebody else. I'll talk to you later.' What Mikey didn't realize is that was training. He was becoming a Joshua."

McCoy's pride in his son was evident: "I'll tell you what, a father is the only man on the face of the earth who takes pleasure when another man exceeds his ability. So proud of Mikey. He's 24 and he's holding it together."

The Role of the Church in the Promised Land

McCoy explained that Moses couldn't take the Israelites into the promised land, but God showed how it would be done: "You're going to do it by the priests and the ark of the covenant. Charlie has inspired churches, but more importantly, pastors to stop being anemic and cowardly."

He challenged pastors directly: "God has made them jealous with envy of what Charlie has accomplished. It's the greatest revival in our lifetime. What you see at this church is happening all over the country and the world because of this man. And these pastors, these priests, these spiritual leaders need to lead these young kids into the land."

His rebuke of politically silent pastors was sharp: "If pastors would make a stand and quit being gnostics, heretics by saying, 'I don't do politics. Politics is dirty. I just preach the gospel.' You're a heretic. You are a Gnostic. Politics is the highest form of community."

Charlie's Vision for America's Future

McCoy reminded the congregation of Charlie's core message to young people: "Get married young and have kids. It's the happiest I've ever been. It's the happiest you'll ever be." But he also acknowledged the economic challenges facing this generation.

"This generation has been indebted by the ones previous. We were the indulgent ones. We spent money we didn't have for things we didn't need to impress people we don't know. We drew up $37 trillion of debt and have saddled it on this generation. It used to be in my generation, you needed three times your income to buy a house. This generation is seven times their income. We have to fix that."

The Power of Prayer Over Riots

In a powerful moment, McCoy addressed those who mock "thoughts and prayers": "Charlie Kirk was murdered by your vitriol and your lies that aided and abetted the pulling of that trigger, warping that young man's mind. And let us remind you of something. We're not rioting in the streets. We're not burning buildings. We're not attacking police cars. We're going to church and pray. Because when you pray, it changes you and you become civil and merciful."

A Final Charge to the Next Generation

McCoy concluded with words of encouragement for the generation Charlie had inspired: "Charlie's alive. But his course on this earth is finished and ours continues. No more apathy, no more love of the world, no more fear of man and to this young generation. You got this. We are grateful for you. We stand with you. You've lost a leader, but you've gained a movement. He didn't leave you as orphans. You're the Joshua generation. Let's take it from here and have a new birth of freedom in this nation of ours in Jesus name."

The service ended with a final tribute video featuring Charlie's own words: "In America, is it possible to say, you know what, I don't like the way the country is going. And to do something about it, take that risk. Take that leap of faith. Stay involved. Trust God and act obediently. Romans 12:2 verse that God will use all things, all things for good for those who love him. It's bigger than you. I want you to remember it is bigger than you. It's bigger than me. You are here to make somebody else's life better."
