Pastor Rob McCoy Honors Charlie Kirk's Legacy and Shares the Gospel at Memorial Service

Pastor Rob McCoy, who called Charlie Kirk his friend, delivers a memorial message that goes beyond recounting accomplishments to reveal the 'why' behind Charlie's courage and conviction. Speaking to a room filled with political figures and Turning Point USA supporters, Pastor Rob shares how Charlie viewed politics as an 'on-ramp to Jesus' and desired above all that attendees would encounter his Savior. From their recent trip to Korea supporting persecuted Christians to Charlie's final wish that Jesus be the guest of honor at his service, this message captures the faith that fueled one of America's most influential young conservatives. Pastor Rob extends an altar call, inviting attendees to receive the same gift of salvation that gave Charlie Kirk unwavering purpose during his 31 years on earth.

A Pastor's Perspective on Charlie Kirk's Life

Pastor Rob opened his message by acknowledging the unique nature of his presence at Charlie Kirk's memorial service. Though Charlie called him his pastor, Pastor Rob called him his friend. Their relationship was marked by mutual respect, even as Charlie's influence grew exponentially following the presidential election. Pastor Rob recalled being with Charlie just over two weeks before his passing in Korea, where Charlie was supporting persecuted Christians facing church raids and pastoral imprisonment.

In Korea, Charlie spoke to youth who now chant 'I am Charlie Kirk' in the streets, standing for freedom across that country. During a green room conversation, Charlie repeatedly referred to Rob as his pastor, but then expanded the title, calling him 'America's pastor.' When Pastor Rob challenged this assertion, Charlie responded with his characteristic debating confidence, insisting with that 'sheepish grin' that he had won the argument.

The Continuation of Turning Point USA

Pastor Rob addressed concerns about Turning Point USA's future without Charlie Kirk's physical presence. He pointed to the organization's staff, noting that they had just pulled off the largest event in Turning Point history. This achievement demonstrated that the movement Charlie built was alive and well, a testament to the foundation he established and the team he assembled.

The memorial service was set to feature some of the most influential political figures in the free world, all gathering to discuss what Charlie Kirk accomplished in merely 31 years. Pastor Rob observed that Charlie had lived more lifetimes in those 31 years than most people experience in their entire lives.

Words of Comfort to the Family

Turning to Erika Kirk, Charlie's two children, his parents, and his sister, Pastor Rob quoted Abraham Lincoln's words to Mrs. Bixby, who had lost sons in the Civil War. Lincoln had written about how weak and fruitless any words must seem in the face of such overwhelming grief. Pastor Rob acknowledged that no one could bring Charlie back, but expressed gratitude to the family for raising him and loving him. He specifically thanked Erika for being the strength in Charlie's life, offering prayers for God's comfort and peace upon the entire family.

The 'Why' Behind Charlie Kirk's Mission

Pastor Rob clarified his unique role at the memorial service. While others would speak about what Charlie did, he was present to explain the why behind Charlie's actions. The why provided Charlie with courage, wisdom, and strength. The why was the guest of honor Charlie specifically requested for his memorial service.

That guest of honor, Pastor Rob explained, has an extensive resume: the King of Glory, the Prince of Peace, the Savior of the world, the living God, the God of all mercy and grace, the total embodiment of love and truth. Jesus was present to call His children back to Him.

Pastor Rob declared that from the thin veil of heaven, Charlie was proclaiming to all earthly powers and principalities gathered that they had come into the presence of the God of all creation. Charlie wanted his Savior to be the guest of honor and wanted all attendees to receive this gift from him—the understanding of the why behind what he did.

The Gospel Message Charlie Wanted Shared

Pastor Rob explained that Charlie was never afraid because he knew his life was secure in the hand of God. He then presented the gospel message, explaining that Jesus left the glory of heaven's throne for the humiliation of an earthly cross. Jesus was fully tempted yet without sin.

Clarifying the concept of sin, Pastor Rob used an archer's term—the distance between the bullseye and where the arrow lands represents how far humanity has fallen from perfection. There are none righteous, and no human effort can bridge the gap back to a righteous God.

The wages of sin is death, Pastor Rob continued, but Charlie knew this truth and at an early age entrusted his life to the Savior of the world. Jesus was tempted in all ways yet remained without sin, was crucified upon a cross, and His blood was poured out because blood must be shed for the remission of sins. His death was sufficient for all the world's sins but only efficient for those who, like Charlie, would receive Him as their Savior.

Politics as an On-Ramp to Jesus

Pastor Rob revealed Charlie's strategic perspective on his political activism. Charlie looked at politics as an on-ramp to Jesus. He knew that if he could get people engaged in the streams of liberty, they would eventually come to its source—the Lord.

The Bible says that if you believe in your heart and confess with your tongue that Jesus is Lord, you will be saved to the glory of the Father. Charlie understood this and lived it daily.

The Altar Call

In his remaining time, Pastor Rob issued a challenge. He asked all who profess Christ as their Savior to remain seated. The Bible states that if you profess Jesus before man, He will profess you before His Father in heaven. This requires an act of faith.

Standing is what Charlie did every day on campus despite death threats. He stood because he knew in whom he had trusted. Charlie wanted to give attendees the gift of understanding the why behind what he did—his Savior Jesus.

Pastor Rob then invited anyone in the room or watching globally who desired to receive Jesus as their Savior to put action to their faith by standing. He encouraged people not to be ashamed but to stand and receive the Lord, just as Charlie did as a young man and who now stands in the presence of his Savior.

Heaven's Rejoicing

Pastor Rob reminded the audience that the Bible says when one sinner gives their heart to the Lord, the angels in heaven rejoice. He expressed certainty that Charlie Kirk was among those rejoicing in heaven, excited about commitments being made to his Savior.

For those who gave their hearts to the Lord, Pastor Rob asked believers seated next to them to stand and pray with them. He directed attention to a QR code displayed on screen, promising to provide everything needed to walk the Christian life. Faith comes from hearing and hearing from the word of God, and it was time for new believers to get into a Bible-believing church.

In closing, Pastor Rob addressed pastors directly, noting that even if they didn't want to give Charlie Kirk the time of day during his life, these new believers would be showing up at their churches because of Charlie's life and legacy.
