Steve Bannon Declares Charlie Kirk a Christian Martyr and Calls Out Ben Shapiro's Never Trump Record

Steve Bannon delivers a fierce tribute to Charlie Kirk, declaring him a Christian martyr and saint while challenging the movement to carry forward his legacy. Bannon traces seven victories in eight national elections over the past decade, crediting Charlie Kirk's political machine for delivering results that terrified the establishment. He confronts Ben Shapiro directly, calling him "the farthest thing from MAGA" and a "hardcore never Trumper," while drawing sharp lines between America First principles and what he terms the "Israel First" agenda. Bannon argues this isn't about free speech or platforming debates, it's about power politics and whether Americans or foreign interests control American decisions. He warns that Shapiro represents a cancer trying to co-opt Turning Point's success, and issues a direct challenge to the audience: "Are you next man up? Do you have the stones to fill Charlie Kirk's shoes?"

Seven Victories in Eight Elections

Steve Bannon opened his remarks by declaring a fundamental truth that Charlie Kirk understood: "We are at war." He pointed to the immediate aftermath of Kirk's assassination, when the University of Montana laughed in the face of those grieving, as evidence of this reality. Bannon emphasized that Kirk knew this was a political war, a cold civil war, and that victory was achievable if the movement refused to quit.

Bannon walked through the electoral record of the past decade, highlighting an astonishing track record: "For the last 10 years, there have been eight national elections—either primaries, off-year elections where Congress is voted on for the whole nation, or presidential elections. We have won seven of those eight." He attributed this success directly to Charlie Kirk's political machine, stating, "This is why they hated Charlie Kirk. It wasn't Charlie Kirk's philosophy or even his debates. Charlie Kirk was a tough person that built a machine that you guys are dedicated to that delivered victories."

The victories Bannon outlined included:

  • 2015-2016: Trump's primary victory against all odds, followed by his come-from-behind victory against Hillary Clinton
  • 2018: A loss in the midterms when people were "leaning on their rakes," resulting in the loss of 35-40 House seats and Nancy Pelosi's subsequent impeachment of Trump
  • 2020: "We won the 2020 election," Bannon declared without equivocation, calling belief in this outcome "a foundational element of the MAGA movement." He pointed to the pickup of 14 House seats that night as evidence
  • 2022: Victory in the midterms, picking up about 11 seats (eight net) and taking control of the House
  • The most recent presidential election, which Bannon called "the greatest come-from-behind ever" and "the greatest election in the history of the country"

Bannon's message was clear: "In 10 years, a decade, you've been beaten once. When we leaned on our shovels, Charlie Kirk understood one thing. We are at war."

Charlie Kirk: The Greatest Political Figure Since the Revolution

Bannon reserved his highest praise for Charlie Kirk himself, calling him "probably, I think, at his age, the greatest individual this country's produced politically, culturally since the revolution." He emphasized Kirk's youth and longevity in the movement: "Hell, he's 31 years old. He's been doing this since he was 18, 17 or 18."

According to Bannon, Kirk truly stepped up during what he called Trump's time "in the wilderness" after 2020. "President Trump was sent to Mar-a-Lago. They never thought he was coming back. The Republican party never thought he was coming back," Bannon explained. He recalled Trump's statement at the previous year's Turning Point event—the first time Trump told anyone—"I had to run again because I could not let them steal an election because they're stealing the country."

Bannon described Kirk as "a man of action" and emphasized that his assassination was no random act: "Charlie Kirk is dead. Think about that. The individual that's probably, I think, at his age, the greatest individual this country's produced politically, culturally since the revolution."

The Real Issue: America First vs. Israel First

Bannon then pivoted to what he called the real issue behind recent controversies within the movement. "This whole thing that's gone on the last couple days, some of the comments tonight, this is not about freedom of speech or platforming or deplatforming," he declared. Instead, he framed it as a fundamental question: "This is about a situation that Charlie Kirk was probably one of the most, if not the most important person in doing and accomplishing. And that is this concept of what I would call greater Israel and Israel first."

Bannon was careful to establish his own pro-Israel credentials, noting that Charlie Kirk "can't get a better defender of Israel than Steve Bannon." He detailed his own record:

  • Pushing initially hard in the White House to move the embassy to Jerusalem
  • Being adamant about no two-state solution
  • Consistent support for Israel on War Room

However, Bannon drew a sharp distinction: "But that's about Israel. It's not about greater Israel. And it's not about Israel first." He explained that Charlie Kirk had foundational beliefs as "a populist nationalist" who believed "America makes its own decisions for America" and that "the American people are the people that make those decisions."

Direct Confrontation With Ben Shapiro

In one of the speech's most striking moments, Bannon directly called out Ben Shapiro, who had apparently spoken at the event the previous night. Referencing Shapiro's claims about truth, Bannon shot back: "Ben, I've known you a long time, brother. You can't handle the truth."

Bannon then systematically dismantled Shapiro's MAGA credentials:

"Let's face it, Ben Shapiro is the farthest thing from MAGA. Let's be blunt. He is a hardcore never Trumper. He's a hardcore never Trumper. In the spring of '16, he tried to upend Breitbart. He walked off the job, made a big deal about some incident in Mar-a-Lago with Corey Lewandowski. He tried to turn it to Ted Cruz from Donald Trump because he hated Donald Trump in the general election. He barely supported Donald Trump."

Bannon continued: "The first sign of when President Trump gets sent back to Mar-a-Lago, the very first individual that jumped on the Ron DeSantis train, the Israel first train, was Ben Shapiro. And those are the darkest days we had in 21 and 22."

He characterized Shapiro as part of an "Israel first crowd" that includes "Tel Aviv Mark Levin and many others that want to put that ahead of America's interests."

Charlie Kirk's Behind-the-Scenes Role in the White House

Bannon revealed details about Charlie Kirk's involvement in White House policy that many may not have known. "Charlie Kirk fought that. You know where Charlie Kirk fought it? In the White House. I know because I was there when I went back," Bannon said.

According to Bannon, Kirk worked with Sergio Gor and others around the vice president "to make sure that we didn't get sucked into a land war, a decapitation of the Iranian elites that would lead to a massive civil war that American troops would get sucked into because that was Netanyahu's plan from the beginning."

Bannon provided specific details about what he characterized as Israel's limitations during a recent conflict:

  • The Times of Israel published that there was no urgency to go after nuclear weapons
  • Israel couldn't finish what they started
  • "On day 10 of the war they were losing and they didn't have the offensive capability"
  • They needed American weapons—Javelins, Patriots—to defend themselves
  • They relied on 1970s U.S. cruise missile technology fired from submarines in the North Arabian Sea to take out above-ground targets

Bannon credited President Trump with bringing the war to conclusion, calling it "the 12-day war."

Warning About Shapiro's Pattern

Bannon didn't just criticize Shapiro's political positions—he warned about a pattern of behavior. Comparing Shapiro to "a cancer" that "metastasizes," Bannon detailed a history of attempted takeovers:

"He tried to take over Breitbart and I ran him out of there. He tried to take over David Horowitz's who was his mentor. Don't ask me. Ask the guys associated with David Horowitz what he did there. He tried to take that over. And mark my word, he will make a move on Turning Point because he's always been envious of Charlie Kirk."

Bannon framed the current controversy as "power politics," not a debate about speech or platforming. He emphasized what Charlie Kirk believed "to the core of his being: that America makes decisions for America and Americans make decisions for America."

Why They Assassinated Charlie Kirk

Bannon connected Kirk's assassination directly to his effectiveness and his principles. "Why the hell do you think they assassinate him? Why they put the poison all over this place? Why they mock and ridicule?" he asked. He quoted James Carville as saying "that Rob Rhino has done a hundred times more than Charlie Kirk," but countered: "They hate Charlie Kirk because Charlie Kirk brought victories."

For Bannon, those victories served a higher purpose: "And with victory after victory after victory, that's when we can re-Christianize this country." He described Kirk's core lesson: "That we were a Christian nation that got off the rails. We have to re-Christianize this country."

Charlie Kirk: Christian Martyr and Saint

In his most solemn declaration, Bannon elevated Charlie Kirk to the status of religious hero: "You are in the shadows of a giant, not just an American patriot and an American hero. Charlie Kirk is a Christian martyr. And Charlie Kirk is a Christian saint. That is your legacy that you take up."

Bannon recalled the day he went to prison, when he passed his show to Charlie Kirk: "I said to Charlie, 'Next man up.' Charlie said, 'I got it. Next man up.'"

The Challenge to the Movement

Bannon concluded with a direct challenge to everyone in the room: "Are you next man up? Are you going to fill the shoes of Charlie Kirk? Do you have the stones to do it? Do you have the guts to do it?"

He warned that the people in that room would decide whether the movement wins in 2026, and that failure would bring consequences: "If we don't win in 26, they're going to bring holy hell down on us. We have to win. Charlie Kirk knew that. And you know that."

His final words echoed the challenge: "Next man up."
