Charlie Kirk's Case for Putting American Workers First

American workers anchor one of Charlie Kirk's most consistent economic arguments: that immigration policy, trade policy, and tax policy should all be judged primarily by whether they raise wages and job security for citizens already here. In campus debates, he argued that restricting the labor supply through tighter immigration enforcement would push wages up for American workers, directly countering students who argued undocumented labor fills essential, otherwise-unfilled roles. He extended the same logic to trade policy in a separate exchange, defending tariffs and pointing to major manufacturing investment pledges from companies like Toyota and Nvidia as evidence the strategy was working despite short-term market turbulence.

Treasury counselor Joe Lavorgna backed that argument with data, describing capital expenditure growth at its fastest pace in decades and framing rising blue-collar wages as the clearest sign of the policy's success. Kirk separately warned that the proposed Dignity Act of 2025 represented amnesty by another name, arguing it would repeat the same broken promises he said followed the 1986 Simpson-Mazzoli Act.
