Author James Lindsay told Charlie Kirk that Italian Marxist theorist Antonio Gramsci laid out, in the 1920s, a strategy for infiltrating and gradually taking over cultural institutions rather than pursuing revolution directly, a plan later termed the "long march through the institutions" that Lindsay argues explains the trajectory from Gramsci's original theory through Mao Zedong to today's critical race theory and diversity, equity, and inclusion programs. In a related panel with Breitbart's Alex Marlow, Lindsay defined critical race theory as a framework that labels any institution racist until its critics gain control of it.
