The Documented Security Gaps at Kirk's Fatal UVU Event

Showing 4 Event Security videos from Charlie Kirk's video collection.

Event security at Utah Valley University became the subject of detailed, documented comparison once reporters examined Charlie Kirk's prior speaking engagements: while his UVU event was staffed with only six campus police officers plus two in plain clothes for roughly 3,000 attendees, a California church appearance had drawn 60 officers, and an indoor University of Wyoming event in April required no bags, weapons, or signs and deployed 15 officers for a smaller crowd of 1,800. Former Turning Point security director Greg Schaefer explained that the 2017 Las Vegas shooting and the two 2024 attempts on Trump's life had already reshaped private security thinking around elevated sniper threats specifically, noting that guards were positioned close to Kirk at UVU partly in response to those lessons, even though the rooftop itself went unsecured. Eyewitnesses Amy and Jeremy King, seated roughly 20 feet from Kirk, described the specific chaos and uncertainty in the moments immediately after the shot, including not knowing whether additional gunfire would follow. A separate correction from The View acknowledged the outlet had falsely suggested Turning Point USA welcomed neo-Nazi protesters who had, in fact, gathered uninvited on public property outside a Turning Point event.
