Was Charlie Kirk Left Vulnerable at Utah Valley University? Examining the Security Failures

When Charlie Kirk spoke at Utah Valley University on September 10th, 2025, only six campus police officers secured an outdoor event with 3,000 attendees. No metal detectors. No bag checks. No ticket verification. This stood in stark contrast to his previous speaking engagements where dozens of law enforcement officials, drones, and extensive security measures were standard protocol. At a California church event, 60 officers monitored his movements. At Illinois State University, more than a dozen officers patrolled a crowd half the size. Yet at UVU, despite a Change.org petition with nearly 1,000 signatures demanding the event be canceled, minimal security was deployed. The shooter accessed an unsecured rooftop with a clear sightline to Kirk and remained there for eight minutes before firing. Was this gross negligence or something more deliberate?

The Security Discrepancy

On September 2nd, 2025, Charlie Kirk did a speaking engagement at Visalia First Church in California. This indoor event drew 2,000 people and around 60 law enforcement officials monitored Charlie's movements to and from the church, even deploying a drone to secure surrounding rooftops. On April 8th, 2025, Charlie Kirk did a campus event at Illinois State University where more than a dozen campus police officers patrolled the 700 person crowd and more officers watched cameras trained on nearby buildings from an operation center. The same month, University of Wyoming police assigned about 15 officers to an indoor Charlie Kirk appearance.

By contrast, Charlie's outdoor event at Utah Valley University on September 10th, 2025 had 3,000 people at the event and only six campus police officers.

Several students expressed surprise at the lack of security measures. One attendee noted, "Not having many security is kind of weird to me, especially on a college campus." Another stated, "I thought there would be a security checkpoint, maybe a bag check."

Ryan Dere was among those questioning the security plan for Charlie Kirk's event. He said he wondered in the moment if anyone was guarding the rooftops. "I didn't see anybody," he recalled.

There were no metal detectors, no bag checks, and event goers said they paid for tickets, but no one checked their tickets upon entry. This is highly unusual for an event of this scale, but especially unusual given the circumstances. Counterprotesters and agitators show up to all his events. Leading up to this campus event, there was even a Change.org petition with almost a thousand signatures from people who wanted the event to be shut down. This alone should have guaranteed tighter security, but that wasn't the case.

TPUSA's Response and Conflicting Accounts

Tyler Bowyer, the chief operating officer at TPUSA, addressed the security concerns on social media. He stated that they've received thousands of death threats and that their security detail working with authorities has thwarted dozens of serious threats.

When questioned about why TPUSA security failed to monitor the only building with a clear shot to Charlie, Tyler responded that their team has a drone system for watching perimeter and hard to see places, but they were not allowed to use it. He explained that universities and university police departments are notorious for shutting down drones and extended security perimeters, particularly with armed guards because they often complain about militarizing the campus. He claimed they use the drone system in every event possible, and it would have saved Charlie's life in this instance.

However, this account conflicts with statements from Frank Turek, someone Charlie Kirk considered a close friend who was present at the event. Frank stated: "This was the first one I went to with him. And the reason I was there is because we spent a couple of days prior to that getting ready and he said, 'Hey, why don't you just come to the first event?' So we drove in and as we were driving in, Charlie got some video footage from drones above. This is an hour before it was supposed to start and there were thousands of people there. And I'm looking at the video footage and I go, 'Charlie, I don't like this place. There's too many buildings.'"

So Tyler from TPUSA says there were no drones because UVU said no. But Frank said they did have a drone and used it to view the crowd before the event. Someone at the scene also captured images of something in the sky that looks like it could be a drone.

A content creator from the Paramount Tactical YouTube channel said UVU was supposed to be responsible for securing the roofs. He stated that TPUSA told UVU they were going to provide their own roof coverage and requested to fly a drone during the event. UVU turned them down on both and said that university campus police would cover the roof and denied them access to fly the drone.

The Choice of Outdoor Venue

Another critical factor is that TPUSA chose to hold this event outdoors rather than indoors, and outdoor events are obviously more difficult to secure. A spokesperson confirmed that Kirk's team chose the outdoor central location.

Josh Holland, chief of police at the University of Wyoming where Kirk spoke at an indoor event in April, described their security measures. He said they staffed that event with 15 officers, some campus police and some from a local partner agency for a crowd of 1,800. There were strict requirements for attendees: no bags, no weapons, no signs.

At the UVU event, tickets existed but several people said no one was checking tickets. One attendee stated, "I didn't have to show any tickets. I didn't know there were tickets going on." This is particularly notable because TPUSA has enforced ticket requirements in the past, including revoking tickets of known agitators like Hunter Kozak when he tried to attend previous TPUSA events.

The Unsecured Rooftop

The placement of the few security officers present and which areas were and were not blocked off raises additional questions. The roof where the shooter took the shot from was accessible and pretty out in the open.

Content creator Taylor Hansen went to UVU after the shooting and recorded himself walking the same path as the shooter to demonstrate how easy it was to get to the rooftop. All he had to do was walk up stairs and hop over a railing. The fence visible in the footage was put up after the fact. The day of the shooting, this was all free and clear. The shooter only had to hop over the railings and make his way to the edge of the building where he had a clear, unobstructed view of Charlie.

What's most notable about this spot is that if anyone else had been walking over there, they would have easily spotted him. Some people did spot him from the ground. One person was recorded saying, "So there's somebody on the roof right there. Just saying. He just ran from over there, ran in and now he's right there."

Why wasn't security patrolling that particular rooftop walkway? Security had blocked off the other rooftop walkway that was directly behind Charlie. Footage shows caution tape that was set up that day, and a guard running after the shot. A security guard was standing in that taped off area before the shot.

The security guards in that area would have had a clear view of where the shooter was right across the courtyard. According to the charging documents, Tyler Robinson hopped over the railings onto the roof at 12:15 p.m. and Charlie was shot 8 minutes later. Tyler was there for 8 minutes setting up. The security guard right across the courtyard should have been able to see him, but still Tyler got off his shot and got away.

Confirming the Shot Origin

Many conspiracy theories have been floating around online. Many people think that Tyler is a patsy and that the real culprit was somewhere in the crowd. However, footage shot from the rooftop behind Charlie and to the left provides evidence otherwise.

When played at 0.25x speed, the footage shows a gap of about 160 milliseconds between when someone sees Charlie get hit and when the shot is heard. This shows that the shot came from a far distance and not in the crowd.

The person's reaction in the footage is also telling. She flinches, processes, then runs—a normal response. However, there were some people whose responses were questionable, including Hunter Kozak.

Hunter Kozak's Suspicious Behavior

Hunter Kozak hated Charlie Kirk. In his own words: "Do you hate Charlie Kirk? I know I do. Charlie Kirk is currently poisoning the mind of every young American who can stand to look at his stupid face."

Hunter worked for the Unfuck America tour where they would go to Charlie's events to antagonize him. In the past, their tickets were revoked, so they would have to sneak in. At the UVU event, no one was checking tickets.

Hunter's boss at the Unfuck America tour, Elizabeth Cohen Sanchez, called into Destiny's live stream and had a strange response to the news that Charlie was shot. She said, "Yeah, I think so. Yeah. Like, dude, Charlie's going to be dead. I'm pretty sure he's already dead. Yeah, dude. We're [expletive]. We are so [expletive]."

Hunter has been interviewed numerous times, and his body language appears off. In one video, he's smiling while talking about what happened at UVU. In a 60 Minutes interview, his emotions seem disingenuous.

Hunter's father, Steve Kozak, works for the Jimmy Kimmel show as one of the higher-ups. Steve is very well connected, having also worked for Jay Leno in the past. Hunter was the last person to talk to Charlie, asking him a suspiciously ironic question right before the shot: "So do you know how many transgender Americans have been mass shooters over the last 10 years?"

The Hidden Question

Hunter was not the only person to ask a question that day. Before he asked his question, a young man named Henry Dells asked Charlie Kirk a question. Henry has done many interviews where he spoke about his experience that day, and something he said shortly after the shooting has gone under the radar.

Henry revealed that he spoke with Hunter before the event started. He explained: "After we each kind of got selected, they picked about four or five of us to be at the front of the line. We each kind of had about five to six minutes where we just kind of discussed like, hey, like what are we going to talk about? What are your questions and what are your questions? You know, there was a lady that was going to talk about some abortion issues, which was understandable. Charlie talks about them all the time. Other was some racial issues and his was transgenderism and you know, the why people feel like they are something that they aren't. And I never got anything out of that or even heard anything where he was going to refer to anything about shooting."

According to Henry, Hunter gave no indication that he was going to ask a question about gun violence. Why would he hide that information?

Hunter's Performance Background

What some may not know is that Hunter at some point had aspirations of being a performer. Back in 2016 and 2017, he published music on Spotify under his name Hunter Kozak, including songs like "If Looks Could Kill." Hunter has also acted in community theater plays.

Footage from about 30 minutes before the shooting shows Hunter in the crowd making exaggerated facial expressions. Some have speculated that in these moments he was practicing his surprised face. Hunter defended himself, saying that someone near him had said something stupid and this was his reaction, although he never specified what that stupid thing was.

When comparing his expressions in that moment to his reactions in interviews since, there is a stark difference in his demeanor.

Google Trends Anomalies

Google Trends data has revealed some interesting patterns. People have been looking for search terms as it pertains to the Charlie Kirk case, and much of the data is now gone from Google Trends. However, some people managed to screen record the results.

According to the captured data, someone with an IP address originating in Israel was searching the name Hunter Kozak on August 3, 2025—over a month before the shooting. Searches in Washington DC and Utah showed no interest in Hunter until after the shooting occurred.

There were also searches for Dr. Dedra Weiss Amaro, the medical examiner who handled Charlie Kirk's case. She was announced as the new state medical examiner in May of 2024, having come from California. On June 30th, 2025, there was a sudden spike in interest in Dr. Dedra Amaro emanating from Israel.

Even more unusual, searches for Timpanogos Regional Hospital, where Charlie Kirk was declared dead, showed a spike about a month before his death from IP addresses in Israel. It was a surgeon from this hospital that said Charlie Kirk was a "man of steel" and that his body stopped a bullet that would typically just go through everything and it was an absolute miracle.

Multiple surgeons from Timpanogos Regional Hospital were also searched from IP addresses originating in Israel around July 18-24, 2025, including Dr. Steven Neilman, Dr. Robert Patterson, and Dr. Lee Trotter.

The Memorial Construction

There has been a narrative circulating that the company that constructed the memorial suspiciously soon after the shooting is owned by Tyler Robinson's father. Tyler Robinson's father does work in construction, but he did not own or does not own the company that did the work.

The company that did the work is called Heartscape Utah, owned by a man named Daniel Morell. Daniel used to be a realtor. Then in January of 2025, he registered the construction company. In less than a year, he got big jobs, including the memorial at UVU. This represents another person in a relatively new position associated with the Charlie Kirk situation.
