Utah County Attorney Jeffrey Gray filed notice that prosecutors will seek the death penalty against Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old charged in the September 10th shooting of Charlie Kirk at a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University. Gray laid out the charges directly to reporters, including aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm causing serious injury, obstruction of justice, witness tampering, and committing a violent offense in the presence of a child, while prosecutors pointed to DNA evidence, surveillance footage, and inscribed ammunition tying Robinson to a rooftop position overlooking the event. Coverage of the case has also tracked preliminary hearings under Gray's office, including a defense motion seeking to disqualify the entire Utah County Attorney's office from prosecuting the case after it emerged that a prosecutor's daughter was present at the shooting. Gray's decision to pursue capital charges was announced alongside confirmation that the case will proceed toward a full trial as investigators continue examining whether anyone else played a role in the attack.
