Paul Ryan as Shorthand for the Conservatism Kirk Rejected

Showing 8 Paul Ryan videos from Charlie Kirk's video collection.

Paul Ryan's name became a specific shorthand Charlie Kirk and his allies used repeatedly for an entire style of Republican politics they considered obsolete: fiscally conservative in theory but reflexively hawkish on foreign policy, and consistently unwilling to fight culture-war battles directly. Kirk told Turning Point Action supporters at AmericaFest that one of the organization's core goals was removing what he called the Romney-Ryan wing of the party for good, arguing that winning elections means nothing if elected Republicans then govern like establishment moderates once in Washington. He extended the same critique to immigration policy specifically, accusing Ryan and John McCain of fear-mongering conservatives into supporting comprehensive reform by falsely warning that opposition would permanently alienate Hispanic voters, a prediction Trump's own coalition-building later contradicted directly. Historian Niall Ferguson cited Ryan's 2012 entitlement-reform platform as a specific missed opportunity, noting that young voters who stood to benefit most from serious fiscal reform overwhelmingly failed to support the Romney-Ryan ticket regardless. Nick Freitas extended the same lineage forward, describing how establishment Republicans in Congress, in his view including figures cut from the same cloth as Ryan, quietly slow-rolled Trump's own agenda throughout his first term.
