Candace Owens Refuses to Donate Debate Winnings to Erika Kirk's Children After Turning Point USA Backlash

Candace Owens addresses intense criticism over accepting $200,000 from Turning Point USA for a debate that never materialized. She pushes back against demands that she donate the money to Charlie Kirk's children, calling out what she views as fake altruism and coordinated pressure campaigns. Owens announces she'll instead support her family and the Catholic Church, while condemning what she sees as Turning Point USA's betrayal of Charlie Kirk's legacy and their attempts to undermine her investigation.

The Controversy Over Accepting the Money

Candace Owens found herself at the center of a firestorm after accepting $200,000 from Turning Point USA for a debate opportunity. She described the impossible position she was placed in: first being criticized for being "scared" to take the money that was "on the table," then being vilified the moment she accepted exactly what was offered. "These people are insane," Owens stated. "They're just insane. There's no way to make them happy."

According to Owens, the criticism intensified immediately after she accepted the funds, with people demanding she establish a trust for Erika Kirk and Charlie Kirk's children. She noted that individuals she "absolutely despises" were saying "in unison" that she needed to donate the money and create a trust for Charlie's children.

Rejecting Demands for Public Charity

Owens firmly rejected suggestions that she donate her winnings to various causes, including Tyler Robinson's defense fund. She explained that she never publicly offered to prove Tyler Robinson's innocence through financial support, calling such expectations unreasonable. "I didn't offer Tyler Robinson publicly go across things and say I'm going to to prove to people that I think he's innocent," she said.

She emphasized that she doesn't engage in "braggadocious" behavior and questioned why anyone would expect her to spend $300,000 "to have a conversation with someone who debates for free." Owens pointed to her history of free debates, including annual debates with Piers Morgan, debates across college campuses, and exchanges with Rabbi Shmuley, all conducted without any financial incentive.

The Turning Point USA Dynamic

Owens characterized the $200,000 offer as unique, attributing it to Turning Point USA's animosity toward her. She claimed that Blake Neff and Andrew Kolvet were retweeting attacks against her as the organization offered "more and more money." The subsequent pressure to donate the funds to Charlie Kirk's children struck her as potentially problematic. "It feels like money laundering," she said. "The organization that's hunting me, you want me to then give the money to the person who would be in control of that would at first, of course, would be Erica."

Charlie Kirk's Children Don't Need More Money

Addressing the calls to donate to Charlie Kirk's children directly, Owens stated there are "few things I despise more than fake altruism" and "people who do charity as a part of a PR program." She argued that Charlie Kirk's children were already "multi-millionaires while he was alive" and that their wealth "increased in his death" through various trusts and fundraising efforts.

"The last thing that Charlie Kirk's children need is more money," Owens declared. "What they need is a stable parent. And unfortunately, they I can't give them that." She criticized the situation, saying "Mom doesn't want to be home. Dad can't be home," and condemned influencers for "using them as a talking point and suggesting that 300 more K could plausibly make a difference."

How Owens Will Actually Use the Money

Rather than succumbing to public pressure, Owens announced her own plans for the funds. After joking that she went to Waffle House over the weekend, she explained she would "take care of the people who took care of me." This includes her sister and the Catholic Church, specifically the priests who provided emotional support during what she described as a difficult realization about Charlie Kirk's situation.

"If you want an organization that's going to get money from me, it's going to be the Catholic Church, the priests that took care of me emotionally when I was coming apart with the realization that Charlie and everything that he had worked for, he was being he's been betrayed," Owens explained.

Accusations of Betrayal

Owens didn't hold back in her assessment of how Charlie Kirk has been treated posthumously. "Charlie has been betrayed. Everybody can see that," she stated. "You betray him every single day when you do this sort these sorts of things. You betray who he was, you betray the friendships that he had. You lie constantly about who he was, about the things that he was thinking."

She made clear she would not "take any instruction from Turning Point USA or any of their affiliates or any of these neocon dogs that they send out on what I should do with the money."

The Future of Turning Point USA

Owens concluded with a pessimistic view of Turning Point USA's future, suggesting the organization is headed for collapse. "I don't see that this is going to be an organization in 10 years down the road. I see it crashing and burning like everybody else does," she said.

She noted an unusual political alignment in opposition to the organization: "For the first time ever, the left and the right are united in their disgust for what this organization has become." According to Owens, this represents a significant shift from the support the organization enjoyed, particularly "in the wake of the assassination."

"You guys did this. This was your loss, your L," Owens concluded, placing full responsibility for the controversy on Turning Point USA.
