Charlie Kirk Defends Mass Deportation Plans and Immigration Priorities at University of Georgia Campus Event

October 25, 2024

Charlie Kirk addresses students at the University of Georgia on mass deportation policy, immigration enforcement, and the American Dream. During an open mic debate near what he calls the 'Cathedral of college football,' Kirk faces questions about deportation's fairness and economic impact. He argues that illegal immigration hurts young Americans' ability to own homes, suppresses wages for working-class citizens, and insults legal immigrants who followed proper procedures. Kirk invokes the murder of Laken Riley as a local example of border policy consequences while defending the priority of American citizens over illegal border crossers.

Mass Deportation as Economic and Safety Policy

Charlie Kirk addressed students at the University of Georgia, defending Donald Trump's proposed mass deportation plans as both fair and economically beneficial. Speaking near what he described as the 'Cathedral of college football,' Kirk engaged in an open mic format where students challenged his positions on immigration enforcement.

When asked whether mass deportation would be fair, Kirk responded affirmatively, explaining that enforcement would begin with individuals who committed crimes after entering the country illegally, including DUIs, murders, and rapes. He cited the murder of Laken Riley, a UGA student, as a deeply personal and local example of the consequences of open border policies.

'The killer of Laken Riley should be deported and should be put in a foreign prison, not an American prison,' Kirk stated. 'If Donald Trump was president, Laken Riley would be alive today. That was an unnecessary killing that was completely because of open border policy.'

Economic Impact on Housing and Wages

Addressing concerns about the economic consequences of mass deportation, Kirk argued that removing millions of illegal immigrants would actually improve economic conditions for American citizens, particularly young people struggling with housing affordability.

Kirk explained that basic supply and demand economics means that adding 10 million people to the country increases competition for housing, driving up prices. 'This is why sand is cheap and diamonds are expensive,' he said. 'When you have a surplus of something or a finite supply of something, prices will go up or if you have a surplus, prices will go down.'

He predicted that while there might be 'speed bumps' in manual labor sectors, wages would ultimately increase for American workers, particularly benefiting working-class voters of all races, with specific advantages for Latino and black Americans who work with their hands and currently face wage competition from illegal immigrants.

Responding to Labor Force Statistics

When a student challenged Kirk's position by noting that illegal immigrants make up 20% of the labor force and pay over $100 billion in taxes while receiving almost no benefits, Kirk disputed the claim about benefits.

'They of course do receive benefits,' Kirk responded. 'For example, they show up at a hospital, they'll receive care, they receive police support, they go to local schools. They send their kids to local social services. Additionally, they get money from the federal government as well—food stamp assistance, Medicaid, so on and so forth, that has now been expanded to even illegal immigrants.'

Kirk emphasized that regardless of economic contributions, illegal immigrants remain in the country 'on our terms,' and that citizens should determine who enters their country through democratic processes.

Generational Economic Decline

Kirk connected immigration policy to broader generational concerns, arguing that current students represent the first generation since George Washington to have worse economic prospects than their parents.

'You are the first generation since George Washington to have it worse off than your parents,' Kirk told the audience. 'You're the most depressed, sick, anxious, medicated, alcohol addicted and poor generation per capita in modern American history.'

He argued that this declining quality of life justifies changing leadership and policies, including immigration enforcement, to restore opportunities for young Americans to own homes and achieve the American Dream.

Legal Immigration Versus Illegal Border Crossing

When engaging with a student whose parents immigrated legally, Kirk emphasized the distinction between legal and illegal immigration as a matter of fairness and respect for rule-followers.

'Your parents came the right way and your parents should be applauded for following the rules and coming here the right way,' Kirk said. 'Do you know who it's an insult to? Your parents, that other people can just cut in line and border jump into our country and basically tell your parents, "Oh sorry that you filled out all the paperwork and you waited in line, we can just then do an act of injustice."'

Kirk positioned himself as defending legal immigrants by opposing those who circumvent the immigration system, arguing that mass illegal immigration undermines the legal process that other families respected.

Venezuelan Immigration and Asylum

Addressing specific concerns about Venezuelans fleeing Nicolas Maduro's regime, Kirk distinguished between those who applied for asylum through legal channels and those who crossed the border illegally.

While acknowledging the difficult safety and economic conditions in Venezuela under what he called 'one of the worst presidents in Latin American history,' Kirk maintained that individuals must return to their countries of origin and follow legal procedures.

'We can open up our arms again once our young people—you guys—can own homes and have a life as good as your parents,' Kirk explained. 'Then we can start thinking about letting in all the other world's problems. Until then, we have an obligation to fulfill the mandate so that you guys can have the same life and access to the American Dream that your parents had.'

Campus Political Environment

Throughout the event, Kirk referenced what he described as a 'MAGA campus,' noting a 'pathetic Harris Walz table' and expressing confidence about winning Georgia. The open mic format allowed students to challenge his positions directly, creating a combative but civil exchange on one of the most contentious issues in American politics.

[00:00] USA USA USA we're going to have a great

[00:04] chat here um if you guys disagree come

[00:06] to the front of the line it's an open

[00:08] mic for a couple hours and uh it's

[00:10] really nice being near your Cathedral

[00:11] here by the way I got to tell you the

[00:12] Cathedral of college football um is

[00:15] pretty great so honored to be here guys

[00:17] we're going to win Georgia large in part

[00:18] thanks to you and I know you guys might

[00:20] see that pathetic Harris walls table

[00:22] there this is a mega campus here

[00:26] everybody all right let's get started

[00:28] everybody hi so my question is regarding

[00:31] the mass deportation that Donald Trump

[00:32] is trying to enforce if he is elected as

[00:34] president and my question is do you

[00:37] think this mass exportation is fair and

[00:39] if you do why yes of course um I do and

[00:42] it's first and foremost it we'll start

[00:43] with the people that committed uh crimes

[00:45] while they're here uh DUIs murders rapes

[00:47] so on and so forth so let me give you

[00:49] one very simple example that is

[00:50] emotional but it is uh personal and it

[00:53] is local um the killer of lake and Riley

[00:57] should be deported and should be put in

[00:59] a foreign prison not an American

[01:02] prison now I will admit not everyone

[01:06] who's coming at here illegally is like

[01:08] the killer of lak and Riley of course

[01:09] but that is a very personal example of a

[01:12] ug student that was just you guys know

[01:15] the situation okay and to be very clear

[01:17] if Donald Trump was president lak and

[01:19] Riley would be alive today that was an

[01:21] unnecessary killing that was completely

[01:24] because of open border policy but if

[01:26] your First Act into a country is to

[01:28] break a country's laws of which illegal

[01:30] immigration is and the illegal people

[01:32] coming in the country are then we have

[01:33] every right to repel them and to send

[01:35] them back to their country of origin do

[01:37] you think this Mass deportation will

[01:39] negatively affect the US economy I

[01:41] actually think it will positively affect

[01:42] the US economy I think that what it will

[01:44] do is number one you guys will have less

[01:46] people to compete for for housing prices

[01:47] so one of the reasons why housing is

[01:49] going up is because in supply and demand

[01:51] if you have 10 million new people they

[01:52] have to live somewhere and when you have

[01:54] to live somewhere then all of a sudden

[01:55] you have more people going after a

[01:56] finite good simple law of supply and

[01:58] demand this is why sand is cheap and

[02:00] diamonds are expensive is because when

[02:02] you have an e a surplus of something or

[02:05] a finite supply of something prices will

[02:07] go up or if you have a surplus prices

[02:08] will go down so I think housing prices

[02:10] will stabilize as part of that there

[02:12] there probably will be some speed bumps

[02:13] on the road in manual labor but honestly

[02:15] what you'll see then is Wages will go up

[02:17] and wages will go up for American

[02:19] workers uh and do you know who

[02:20] specifically the population that will be

[02:22] benefited by this um is workingclass

[02:25] voters of all Races but specifically

[02:27] Latino and black Americans that work

[02:30] with their hands that currently are

[02:31] having their wages undercut by

[02:33] individuals that break the break the law

[02:35] come of the Southern border and then um

[02:37] destabilize their their working wage

[02:39] well I disagree because if you don't

[02:41] already know lat um illegal immigrants

[02:44] make up 20% of the labor force in the

[02:46] United States and they pay over a

[02:48] hundred billion dollar in taxes but they

[02:50] receive no almost no benefits from the

[02:52] taxes that they pay from so I believe

[02:54] they the wages won't necessarily go up

[02:56] if anything they probably go down

[02:58] because people are now fighting for more

[03:00] degree based um yeah so first of all I

[03:03] don't expect you to know this but they

[03:04] of course do receive benefits for

[03:06] example they show up at a hospital

[03:07] they'll receive care they receive police

[03:09] support they go to Local Schools right

[03:11] so they send their kids to local Social

[03:12] Services additionally they get money

[03:14] from the federal government as well food

[03:16] stamp assistance Medicaid so on and so

[03:18] forth that has now been expanded to even

[03:19] illegal immigrants so that's not totally

[03:21] true um secondly though there's still

[03:24] here on our terms so you have to we just

[03:25] might have a difference of what how a

[03:27] country should be constituted one of the

[03:28] reasons I support Trump is that a

[03:30] fundamental premise of how a country

[03:32] should exist is that the citizen should

[03:33] be able to determine who comes in their

[03:35] country and that we actually have a say

[03:37] in elections of whether or not it's too

[03:39] much too little not enough or whatever

[03:41] it is it's obviously too much right now

[03:43] it's unsustainable it is then making our

[03:45] lives worse and I'm not saying this is

[03:47] just because of illegal migration but

[03:48] it's partially everybody in this

[03:50] audience right now you are the first

[03:52] generation since George Washington to

[03:54] have it worse off life worse off than

[03:57] your parents you're the most depressed

[03:59] sick anxious medicated alcohol addicted

[04:02] and poor generation per capita in modern

[04:04] American history and just a very simple

[04:07] rule and again this ties into illegal

[04:09] immigration but not specifically is that

[04:11] if you are getting routinely poor

[04:13] year-over-year you should fire your

[04:15] leaders and put leaders back in charge

[04:17] that we're actually making life better

[04:19] and you get we're getting richer and be

[04:20] able to own homes so yes and then

[04:22] finally I'll just say this of course

[04:25] they contribute to some jobs in the

[04:26] economy that's not the point the point

[04:27] is that those should go to a Native

[04:28] Americans and Native American jobs or

[04:30] even Native Americans too but American

[04:32] boring jobs not illegal migrant labor

[04:35] that cut in line and de and then

[04:37] basically said to the entire immigration

[04:38] system so bad it's too too bad who he's

[04:41] a first generation immigrant or a son or

[04:42] daughter of so can I ask you a question

[04:45] did your parents come here the right way

[04:47] yes okay no no no this is important so

[04:50] your parents came the right way and your

[04:51] parents should be applauded for

[04:52] following the rules and coming here the

[04:54] right way do you know who it's an insult

[04:56] to your parents that other people can

[04:59] just cut in line and Border jump into

[05:01] our country and basically tell your

[05:03] parents oh sorry that you filled out all

[05:05] the paperwork and you waited in line we

[05:07] can just then do an act of Injustice so

[05:10] I'm actually on your parent side here I

[05:12] want more people to follow the law and

[05:13] come in here legally I do not want a

[05:16] mass illegal immigration invasion of the

[05:18] country does that make sense great I

[05:20] have one relating to immigration as well

[05:22] do you think um through this Mass

[05:25] deportation that Donald Trump is trying

[05:26] to enforce do you think it it's fair

[05:28] that he wants to deport back all the

[05:31] Venezuelan people who just came back who

[05:33] just came from Venezuela and I

[05:34] understand the news has made this

[05:36] Prejudice that Venezuelans are criminals

[05:38] they're Killers I absolutely understand

[05:40] I grief for um the the young one the

[05:42] young girl that was killed here but

[05:44] people do not realize how bad the safety

[05:46] and economic state in Venezuela is right

[05:49] now they just reelected Nicolas Maduro

[05:51] he is one of the worst pres presidents

[05:53] in Latin American

[05:55] history yeah again so in order for them

[05:57] to come they'd have to come the right

[05:58] and legal way now the the Venezuelans

[06:00] some have actually applied for Asylum

[06:02] and were granted Asylum through legal

[06:04] methods that's a separate discussion I

[06:05] think we're too generous in that way

[06:07] others decide to just enter through the

[06:08] southern border here's the thing you

[06:11] have to return to your country of origin

[06:13] and then we can get our own house

[06:14] together and let me just kind of put

[06:16] this differently we can open up our arms

[06:18] again once our young people you guys can

[06:20] own homes and have a life as good as

[06:22] your parents then we can start thinking

[06:24] about letting in all the other world's

[06:26] problems until then we have an

[06:28] obligation to fulfill the mandate so

[06:30] that you guys can have the same life and

[06:32] access to the American dream that your
