Charlie Kirk Defends Pete Hegseth Amid Media Attacks and War Monger Opposition at Pentagon

Charlie Kirk champions Pete Hegseth as the Secretary of Defense faces renewed media attacks following the White House Easter Egg Roll. Kirk argues the opposition to Hegseth runs deeper than personnel disputes, claiming war hawks who opposed his confirmation are now orchestrating a campaign to remove him because he resists their push for military action against Iran. Kirk warns that those pushing for conflict aim to break the administration and recalls the intense grassroots mobilization required to secure Hegseth's confirmation.

Trump Backs Hegseth at Easter Egg Roll

President Trump offered strong support for Pete Hegseth during the White House Easter Egg Roll, addressing renewed media criticism of the Defense Secretary. When asked about his confidence in Hegseth, Trump was unequivocal in his backing.

"He is doing a great job. Ask the Houthis how he's doing," Trump stated. The President dismissed the reports as "fake news" and suggested they originated from "disgruntled old employees." Trump emphasized that Hegseth "was put there to get rid of a lot of bad people and that's what he's doing. So, you don't always have friends when you do that."

Trump also highlighted recruitment numbers, claiming they are the highest in 28 years, as evidence of Hegseth's successful leadership at the Pentagon.

Hegseth Pushes Back Against Media Narrative

Pete Hegseth himself addressed the media attacks during the Easter Egg Roll, directly confronting what he sees as a coordinated campaign against him. "What a big surprise that a bunch of leakers get fired and suddenly a bunch of hit pieces come out from the same media that pedal the Russia hoax won't give back their Pulitzers," Hegseth said.

He characterized the media's approach as taking "anonymous sources from disgruntled former employees and then they try to slash and burn people and ruin their reputations." Hegseth's comments suggest he views the recent negative coverage as retaliation from personnel he removed for leaking to the press.

The Deeper Battle: Iran and the War Hawks

The opposition to Hegseth extends beyond personnel management disputes. There is concern about an undercurrent attempting to position the administration for military conflict with Iran. While there is agreement that Iran cannot be allowed to obtain nuclear weapons, there is wariness about figures pushing aggressively for military action.

"There is an undercurrent to try to take out everyone around Pete Hegseth and eventually do an encirclement around the Pentagon so they can have a clear shot at bombing Iran," the analysis suggests. The concern is that once military action begins against Iran, it constitutes a declaration of war with unpredictable consequences.

A war with Iran could have serious implications for the administration. While President Trump has final authority over such decisions and does not want war, the machinery around any president can be persuasive in shaping military policy. Historical precedent shows how advisors can influence presidential decisions on military matters.

Return to Military Lethality

Under Hegseth's leadership, the Pentagon has shifted away from what critics call "woke ideology" toward a focus on combat effectiveness. The military is described as being "back to not hair removal, but terrorist removal, enemy elimination, lethality at all costs."

Despite this warrior ethos, Hegseth is characterized as a prudent leader who resists being pushed into unnecessary conflicts. This combination of toughness and restraint may be precisely why certain factions oppose him.

The Grassroots Battle for Confirmation

Hegseth's confirmation was far from guaranteed. His nomination came down to a near 50-50 vote, requiring massive grassroots mobilization to secure his position. What should have been a smooth confirmation during "the era of good feelings" following the election victory instead became a pitched battle.

Senator Joni Ernst initially appeared to waver in her support, but quickly reversed course after facing pressure from constituents. "She touched the stove and realized it was scolding hot," observers noted. Ernst and others "did not realize" the intensity of support for Hegseth among the base.

The opposition to Hegseth was never primarily about his qualifications or past controversies. "They did not want Pete Hegseth all along because they knew that he was not one of them," the assessment concludes. Hegseth is viewed as "a grassroots warrior" and "a fighter's fighter" who won't rubber-stamp the agenda of establishment war hawks.

The current attacks represent a continuation of that earlier opposition, with those who failed to block his confirmation now attempting to undermine his position through media campaigns and internal Pentagon politics.
