Charlie Kirk on DC Plane Crash: Reagan Airport Whistleblowers Arrested for Exposing Preventable Tragedy

Charlie Kirk examines the arrest of two Reagan Airport employees charged with leaking footage of the catastrophic Potomac collision that killed 67 people. Kirk argues these alleged whistleblowers may have prevented a cover-up by releasing video evidence showing the Army Black Hawk helicopter was flying twice its legal altitude and nearly a mile off course. With the female pilot warned multiple times and no evasive maneuvers taken, Kirk questions whether the military has been filled with unqualified personnel. He explores why training helicopters were operating near civilian airspace at night and why flight instructors didn't intervene, calling this the deadliest air disaster in over two decades—one that appears entirely preventable.

Airport Employees Arrested for Leaking Crash Video

Breaking news has emerged regarding the horrific crash over the Potomac River. Two Reagan Airport employees have been arrested for allegedly leaking video of the DC plane crash. The Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority employees, Muhammad Lamin Mcbone and Jonathan Seavoy, both of Maryland, are charged with computer trespass.

While typically hard on crime, this situation appears different. These individuals may be the modern-day equivalent of whistleblowers. The question remains: who's to say that power brokers or other parties wouldn't have tried to cover up the truth? They're charged with misdemeanors, so they probably won't face jail time, but authorities are making a significant claim about their actions.

Consider how much misinformation circulated about this situation. That quality video around this tragedy very well might have clarified what actually happened. Airport Authority officials, according to USA Today, did not specify how the footage was obtained or distributed, but the viral video aired by news outlets shows the moment that a passenger jet and a US Army Black Hawk helicopter collided, killing 67 people.

What the Video Reveals About the Collision

Thanks to the video and other reports, much has been learned about this situation. The female pilot flying the helicopter was operating the aircraft nearly twice as high as it should have been. Understand that it was legally allowed to be at a certain altitude, but it was twice as high as recommended and was up to one mile off course.

Whoever this pilot was—believed to be this female pilot—was warned multiple times not to be in this area. The video shows that there were no evasive maneuvers when the collision was imminent. This leaves only two possible explanations.

Explanation one: the military is filled with people who should not be helicopter pilots, people who should not be in charge of flying others around. Explanation two is a much more sinister scenario that seems very unlikely, in fact almost impossible—that this was done intentionally.

Critical Questions About the Helicopter's Position

This person was a mile off course, flying twice as high as recommended, legally right near Reagan Airport. These Black Hawk helicopters have the ability to stop on a dime and to evade aircraft and munitions after being shot at. So how did it hit and basically collide with a commercial jet?

The video obtained exclusively by CNN shows previously unseen angles of the collision between an American Airlines flight and a US Army Black Hawk helicopter. In the footage, the Black Hawk can be seen flying at speed over the Potomac from the left side of the screen. The American Airlines plane can be seen flying towards the airport before the two collide, causing a midair explosion and fall into the river. In a second video, after the collision and subsequent explosion, the airliner can be seen spinning into the water and the Black Hawk is also seen falling into the water.

A Military Full of Unqualified Personnel

The more likely explanation is that Donald Trump inherited a military full of people who never should have been helicopter pilots. Officials say this person had a significant number of flight hours and they were just training. But critical questions emerge: Why are you training near a civilian airport if there is even a one in a million chance that something like this could happen? Why not go into rural Pennsylvania to do your training? And why are you doing it at night at twice the height that you're legally allowed to be?

These questions may never get answered, though there is certainly hope they will. But what cannot be ignored: 67 people were killed. This is the deadliest air disaster in more than two decades.

Not a Plane Malfunction But Preventable Tragedy

What is very important to understand is this was not a plane malfunction. This was not like a Sully situation where Captain Sullenberger takes off and a bunch of birds go into the plane. This was something that happened to the aircraft, so it's not even an indictment of the safety of air travel. Some people say they're never going to fly again over this, but that's actually a really irrational response.

Instead, the question is: Why are military helicopters at night even getting close to civilian aircraft? To repeat: it was twice as high as it legally was allowed and was up to one mile off course. The pilot was warned repeatedly to get away—and nothing happened.

Where Were the Flight Instructors?

The other question that demands an answer: If there were flight instructors alongside grading her ability to fly, why didn't they intervene and say you're getting off course? By the way, a mile off course is significant. That's not a minor deviation. And there were no evasive maneuvers when the collision was imminent.

So either they wanted the collision to happen—which is not believable—or they were so bad at flying and they had night vision on and they were so distracted that boom, they went right into a moving aircraft.

The Physics of the Collision

Another important thing to remember is that this involved a moving target. It was a moving airplane and a moving helicopter, which means by definition an interception is actually much harder because you must time up two simultaneously very fast-moving objects in the air at the same altitude at the same time. If it were a building, it's obviously still challenging, but the building's not moving.

So again, either this was done intentionally—which is refused to be believed—or it was someone who didn't know what they were doing. And if they didn't know what they were doing, it was just the worst dumb luck possible of two simultaneous fast-moving objects—one going 200 miles per hour, another going about 120 miles per hour—that happened to intersect at the same moment. And boom, 67 people killed.
