Charlie Kirk Responds to Veteran's Call for U.S. Military Presence in Afghanistan to Prevent Another 9/11

A military veteran who served during Operation Allies Welcome confronts Charlie Kirk with a perspective rarely heard in conservative circles: should America return to Afghanistan to prevent the next terrorist attack? The veteran shares firsthand experience processing Afghan refugees, revealing that many were known or suspected terrorists. Kirk's response reframes the entire debate, arguing that 9/11 wasn't a military occupation problem but an immigration and intelligence failure. This exchange cuts to the heart of America's post-Afghanistan reality: with thousands of potential terrorists already inside our borders and conflicts heating up globally, what should Trump's strategy be?

A Veteran's Unique Perspective on Afghanistan

The discussion began with a military veteran sharing gratitude for those who served, then presenting an argument Charlie Kirk admitted he had never encountered before. The veteran's unit was directly involved in Operation Allies Welcome during the chaotic 2021 withdrawal from Afghanistan under President Biden. What he witnessed during that operation formed the foundation of his concerns about national security.

According to the veteran, many of the Afghan refugees processed by his unit were either known or suspected of terrorism. He emphasized that while public attention focused on immigration from Latin America during the Biden administration, significant numbers of individuals from the Middle East also entered the country, including people on the FBI watch list. This firsthand experience led him to advocate for renewed U.S. military presence in Afghanistan, not a full reinvasion, but a presence similar to what America maintains in other countries around the world.

The veteran referenced an interview on the Shawn Ryan show with Sarah Adams, a CIA targeter, who stated that another 9/11-scale attack is likely, potentially involving tens of thousands of casualties. His question to Kirk was straightforward: what will President Trump do to prevent the next 9/11, and doesn't this require a presence in Afghanistan where al-Qaeda continues building its numbers?

Kirk's Reframing of 9/11 and National Security

Charlie Kirk acknowledged the veteran's service and complimented his unique argument before offering a fundamentally different interpretation of the problem. Kirk argued that 9/11 was not a failure to occupy enough countries, but rather an intelligence failure and, most importantly, an immigration problem. The root cause, according to Kirk, was allowing people who were not American into the country in the first place.

Kirk then posed a critical question to the veteran: was President Trump elected on a platform of more foreign wars and conflicts, or less? The veteran acknowledged it was less. Kirk pressed further on whether the Afghanistan withdrawal itself was a good idea, to which the veteran agreed in principle, though not with the execution under Biden. The veteran called Biden's method disgraceful, noting the service members who died, particularly referencing the Abbey Gate bombing. Kirk agreed the execution was terrible, comparing it to performing surgery with a switchblade rather than proper medical procedure.

Kirk criticized specific aspects of the withdrawal: the failure to protect Bagram Air Base and leaving approximately one hundred billion dollars of military equipment in Afghanistan. However, he emphasized a moral principle he considered paramount: America needs to protect its own borders far more than the borders of foreign countries.

The Immigration Solution vs. Military Intervention

The veteran acknowledged that many Americans are distracted by conflicts in Israel and Ukraine, with tensions heating up between Pakistan and India, causing people to lose focus on the Middle East threat. He maintained that damage has already been done, with potential terrorists already inside America who need to be found, rooted out, and deported.

Kirk agreed that immigration control is the solution but drew a clear line against military intervention. He stated he did not want to see service members like the veteran and his friends sent into another no-win war in a foreign country where they might lose their lives and the objective remains unclear. Instead, Kirk advocated for these veterans to live prosperous lives in America, with the country focusing on closing borders and implementing strict immigration policies.

The veteran shared that he's currently using his GI Bill for education, which Kirk supported, noting that some people should go to college and he was glad the veteran is benefiting. The veteran also mentioned that many of his NCOs who fought in Afghanistan argued the withdrawal should never have happened, with those who served there feeling their sacrifice was questioned by the chaotic exit.

A Disappointing Day in American History

Kirk concluded by calling the Afghanistan withdrawal one of the most disappointing and disgusting days in American history. He specifically highlighted the thirteen Marines who died unnecessarily at Abbey Gate, noting that President Joe Biden has never called those families to acknowledge their sacrifice. The exchange ended with Kirk thanking the veteran for his service and offering him what he called a "mini Jesus," encouraging everyone to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

The conversation represented a microcosm of the broader conservative debate about America's role in the world post-Afghanistan. While both men agreed on the disastrous execution of the withdrawal and the immigration crisis it exacerbated, they differed on the solution. The veteran's frontline experience processing refugees gave him a perspective that America needs forward military presence to prevent terrorism at its source. Kirk's position centered on the belief that terrorism is prevented not through foreign occupation but through controlled borders and strict immigration enforcement at home.
