Charlie Kirk's Campus Dialogue on Gender, Biology, and Parental Rights in Medical Decisions for Minors

January 25, 2019

Charlie Kirk engages with students on a college campus about biological definitions of gender, chromosome structures, and the intersection of science and policy. The conversation addresses three core concerns: sex reassignment surgery for minors without parental consent, age-appropriate education for young children, and the ability to discuss controversial ideas openly. Despite opposition and chanting from the crowd, Charlie Kirk maintains that different perspectives should be heard without resorting to name-calling or shutting down dialogue.

The Question of Evidence and Biology

During a campus dialogue, Kirk was asked what evidence could change their mind about gender definitions. Kirk responded that compelling evidence would need to demonstrate either that there is something beyond the chromosomal structures of XX and XY (excluding intersex chromosomal variations), or that there are no differences between males and females. When pressed on whether chromosomes determine gender, Kirk affirmed their belief that XY indicates male, acknowledging intersex individuals as exceptions to the general rule but maintaining this as their understanding of biology.

Three Core Policy Concerns

Charlie Kirk outlined three major societal questions that motivated their engagement on this topic. First, they expressed opposition to sex reassignment surgery for fifteen-year-olds without parental consent, particularly when taxpayers fund such procedures. Kirk believes parents should be informed and involved in such significant medical decisions for their children.

Second, Kirk addressed education policy, specifically in public schools. They argued that four, five, and six-year-old children should be raised with an understanding that young boys and young girls are fundamentally different. According to Kirk, recognizing these differences is essential to helping children find their place in what they described as a chaotic and confused world. They acknowledged that others might disagree with this approach but maintained their position.

The Importance of Open Dialogue

The third concern raised was about tolerance for different ideas in American society. As people in the crowd chanted and screamed during the exchange, Charlie Kirk emphasized that individuals should be allowed to express these views without being subjected to name-calling. Kirk noted that despite the hostile reception, they had not called anyone names and suggested this kind of civil discourse is something the country is losing.

Throughout the interaction, Kirk maintained that these questions about medical consent for minors, educational approaches for young children, and free speech deserve thoughtful discussion rather than immediate dismissal or personal attacks.

[00:00] he's there just to your knowledge though

[00:01] is there some level of evidence like you

[00:03] could say right now that could make you

[00:04] change your mind it could make you go oh

[00:06] I guess there are more than two genders

[00:08] if compelling rotten o0 right there's

[00:11] compelling evidence that there's

[00:12] anything beyond excluding intersex

[00:15] chromosomal structure of X X X Y or if

[00:17] there's compelling evidence that there's

[00:18] no difference between males and females

[00:20] which I would love to read earlier

[00:24] before which was tying chromosomes

[00:26] gender right X Y male is that what you

[00:30] believe that correct excellent intersex

[00:32] yes I mean are intersex people that you

[00:34] don't have a rule for the exception to

[00:35] the exception which is to the rule but

[00:36] yes correct this what I believe it's

[00:39] what biology okay there's a broader

[00:41] question like why am I doing this

[00:43] there's three big questions that need to

[00:44] be answered as a society that can be

[00:46] connected to this number one is the

[00:49] section reassignment surgery for 15

[00:51] year-olds out parental consent

[00:52] that's that stem from the transgender

[00:54] organ I think that's wrong that a

[00:56] fifteen-year-old can get sexual

[00:57] reassignment surgery without telling a

[00:58] parent parents and taxpayers out the

[01:00] paper I think that's wrong number two is

[01:03] specifically in the public education

[01:04] system someone that's four or five or

[01:06] six years old I think there's a certain

[01:08] way to raise boys and a certain way to

[01:09] raise those you might people totally

[01:11] disagree at that but young boys a

[01:13] totally different than young girls they

[01:14] just do and so you add the third box you

[01:17] don't recognize those differences I

[01:18] think you do a disservice to a child

[01:20] trying to find their place in a chaotic

[01:22] and Confused world those are the two big

[01:24] things and the third thing is a

[01:25] conversation about how accepting we are

[01:27] different ideas because as you can see

[01:29] people are chanting and screaming we

[01:31] should be allowed to say this without

[01:33] having to call people names I've not

[01:34] called anyone a name here at all despite

[01:36] them doing that absolutely lose that in

[01:38] this country
