Facility's Role in Military Operations
Accurate Energetic Systems is a manufacturing company that supplies certain explosives to the U.S. military and the Department of Defense. The facility is responsible for supplying multiple DOD systems and several types of explosives. One of the buildings at the facility went up in flames during the explosion and, according to the Hickman County Sheriff, is no longer standing.
Not Believed to Be Terrorism
Two sources from Homeland Security officials in Washington, D.C. indicated that early findings suggest this was not an act of terrorism. The investigation is ongoing, but preliminary assessments point to an industrial accident rather than a deliberate attack.
Sheriff Describes Devastating Scene
The Hickman County Sheriff, who has 36 years of experience in law enforcement, described the scene as one of the most devastating he has ever witnessed in his career. He noted that there is essentially nothing left of the building where the explosion occurred. Additionally, a similar explosion occurred somewhere on the facility's campus in 2014, though it may not have been in the exact same building that was destroyed in this incident.

The area remains an active scene as authorities work to determine the full extent of the casualties and locate those still missing.
