From a Two-Car Garage to Changing America: How Charlie Kirk Built Turning Point USA
Charlie Kirk's ability to electrify a room full of sleeping students sparked the creation of one of America's most influential conservative organizations. Starting with a phone call in June 2012 and a $10,000 check from Foster Friess to a converted two-car garage, Turning Point USA grew into a movement with a 14,000 square foot operational facility and the largest field program in conservative history. This is the story of how a young man's passion for politics and the entrepreneurial spirit transformed into America's fight to preserve timeless ideas and win the culture war before the left takes the country away.
Things happen in life that you don't expect. At an event where students were falling asleep through speaker after speaker, something changed when the seventh speaker approached the podium. In a few seconds, the audience went from falling asleep to wide awake. That speaker was Charlie Kirk.
Charlie Kirk always loved politics. Throughout high school, he was passionate about history, economics, government, and civics. He was the type of guy always debating teachers and getting involved locally in campaigns. But he saw that his generation needed to be woken up.
The Birth of Turning Point USA
In June 2012, Charlie Kirk picked up the phone and called Bill. "I have the name of the organization," he said. "Turning Point USA." Bill responded, "Great, how can I help?" And off to the races they went.
Charlie and Bill were at the office, which was actually a two-car garage converted into headquarters for Turning Point USA. One day, the mailman came with a letter. Bill looked at it and said, "Hey Charlie, this is from Foster Friess." When they opened it, they discovered he had donated $10,000. That's how the organization started, from a little two-car garage, just like Apple and Hewlett Packard. It showed it could be done. The entrepreneurial spirit was there, and they did it.
Foster Friess saw Charlie speak and thought, "Here's a young man we have to help." He provided a little bit of money, Charlie started Turning Point, and the rest is history.
Building the Infrastructure for a Movement
The interesting part of Turning Point was creating excitement while being able to get chapters started and setting up facilities to accommodate the necessary elements needed to make those chapters successful.
At Turning Point USA, they're doing things that have never been done before. In one year alone, they opened their 14,000 square foot operational facility in Phoenix, Arizona. They have held the largest events that have ever been held in the conservative movement. They have the largest and most highly functioning field program. Their Campus Victory Project is taking conservative leadership and student body leadership up tenfold in just the three short years they've been operating.
Having this space enables them to take over the Internet. One of the things they talk about all the time is winning the culture war, and Turning Point USA is doing exactly that.
Opening Doors and Creating Hope
Charlie Kirk is opening doors for thousands of young people every day across the country, giving these kids hope. They realize they can go out and do something with their lives. And of course, God bless America, the only country in the world where this can happen. There are several wonderful people out doing phenomenal things, and that's what it's all about—making a difference and educating people as to what the real truth is.
There's no other organization that brings all those people together like Turning Point USA does. They're changing lives and changing history.
America's Last Best Hope
Turning Point USA is America's last best hope. The organization fights for the timeless ideas that we live in the greatest country ever to exist. If we don't fight for this republic, the left will take it from us. If you think they're going to give us our country back just because we have better ideas, we're totally incorrect. Everything has to be fought for.
Turning Point USA represents a solution through a lot of the cultural challenges that we're experiencing. The organization stands as proof that with passion, entrepreneurial spirit, and commitment, a movement can grow from a converted garage to become a force that shapes the future of America.
