Lucas Miles on Turning Point USA After Charlie Kirk's Assassination and America's Spiritual Revival

Lucas Miles, senior director at TPUSA Faith and host of Strong Church podcast, shares how Turning Point USA is moving forward following Charlie Kirk's assassination. Three weeks after the tragedy at Utah Valley University, Miles discusses the unprecedented response: over 180,000 chapter requests, thousands of pastors joining the fight, and churches experiencing revival. He reflects on Kirk's legacy as a martyr, Erika Kirk's leadership as new CEO, and why the organization returned to Utah just weeks after the assassination. Miles also addresses the controversial statements from AOC, Ilhan Omar, and Jasmine Crockett blaming Kirk for his own death, and explains the Christian perspective on justice versus forgiveness in this moment of national mourning and awakening.

The Memorial and the Mission

Standing at Charlie Kirk's memorial service, surrounded by music, love, and hundreds of mourners, Lucas Miles encountered a moment that would define Turning Point USA's path forward. As senior director of TPUSA Faith, handpicked by Kirk himself, and host of the Strong Church podcast, Miles found himself at the center of an organization navigating grief while experiencing unprecedented growth.

Three weeks to the day—and nearly to the minute—after Kirk's assassination at Utah Valley University, the gravity of the moment was undeniable. The beautiful memorial service was more than a goodbye; it was a launching pad for what Miles describes as "America's comeback tour."

Returning to Utah: Defiance and Determination

Just three weeks after Kirk's assassination, Turning Point USA returned to Utah State University in Logan, only two hours from where Kirk was killed. The decision wasn't made lightly, but the message was clear.

"These were stops that we had scheduled, but we're not backing down. We're not going anywhere. We're not stopping," Miles explained. "Erika made it very clear Charlie's vision is going to continue. His name is going to be known. This isn't about revenge—this is America's comeback tour."

The return to Utah was symbolic of the organization's commitment to Kirk's mission. "We want to see the America that all of us want to live in. We believe that this nation is great and built on great principles," Miles said, noting that as a pastor himself, he's particularly excited about the revival taking place among young people.

However, the Utah return wasn't without incident. Hours before the event at Utah State University, a suspicious package was found on campus and detonated by law enforcement, raising questions about whether this was an attempt to intimidate or create fear.

The Martyr's Seed: Kirk's Legacy

Miles speaks of Kirk with profound respect, describing him as "the most integrity-filled person I knew." The authenticity that made Kirk compelling on camera was exactly who he was off camera.

"He lived, he truly practiced what he preached every single day. There was no idle moment in his life. He was living for this moment for revival to take place," Miles reflected. "None of us thought it would take him giving his life to get us here."

Drawing on church history, Miles quoted the ancient principle: "The death of the martyr is the seed of the church." Kirk's assassination, tragic as it was, has become a catalyst for spiritual awakening.

"We are seeing churches double. We are seeing people buy Bibles and come back to the faith in record numbers right now," Miles reported.

Unprecedented Growth and Grassroots Response

The numbers tell a remarkable story. Within days of Kirk's assassination, approximately 67,000 requests for Turning Point USA chapters flooded in from schools around the country. That number has since exploded to over 180,000.

"It's amazing and also somewhat indescribable about what we're experiencing," Miles said. "There is such a groundswell of emails and messages and social media posts just saying, 'How can I help? How can I get involved? How can I give? How can my church get connected?'"

The response extends beyond students to the faith community itself. Thousands of pastors have reached out, many admitting they weren't in the fight before but are ready now.

"We have pastors, thousands of pastors reaching out saying, 'You know what, I wasn't in this fight before, but I'm ready to be in it now. This woke me up,'" Miles shared. "We have Christians of all kinds reaching out. Our college division is exploding."

Miles believes Kirk would be thrilled seeing the movement from heaven. "In typical Charlie Kirk fashion, we're working harder than ever right now. There's grieving that's taking place as we're going. The staff is hugging each other, loving on each other. It's a difficult time, but there's also a great reward of seeing this move, and we want to capitalize on every opportunity so Charlie's life and his death would not be in vain."

Erika Kirk: The Right Leader at the Right Time

When Erika Kirk was announced as CEO of Turning Point USA, it provided what Miles describes as "a unifying force for the organization."

"Everybody just breathed this sigh of relief. We just felt like it's going to be okay," Miles said. "I've seen very few women that are stronger than her and she is the right person for the job right now. We're all behind her 100%."

Erika's public speeches since her husband's death have shaken the nation, demonstrating remarkable resolve and commitment. Her strength in the face of unimaginable loss has become an inspiration to the entire organization and movement.

Security and Vigilance in Dangerous Times

The suspicious package at Utah State University served as a sobering reminder that threats remain. While Miles didn't have specific information about that particular incident, he acknowledged the reality of opposition.

"As a pastor I believe that there is an evil one and he wants to thwart any opportunity for life," Miles said, quoting one of Kirk's favorite passages, John 10:10: "The thief comes to steal, kill and destroy, but I've come to give life and life to the full."

Miles emphasized that security is now a priority not just for Turning Point events but for churches across America. "Christianity is under attack. You need to be thinking about security at your church. You need to be making sure that you're taking those steps."

But security concerns won't stop the mission. "Ultimately, all of us have to say it is worth it to share the gospel. It's worth it to save this country. It's worth it to save this generation and we're going to follow in Charlie's footsteps and we're going to do it anyways."

Justice, Forgiveness, and the Christian Response

The tension between forgiveness and justice is one many Christians are wrestling with in the wake of Kirk's assassination. Miles addressed this directly, affirming both the Christian call to forgive and the state's responsibility to punish evil.

"We saw Erika's words of forgiveness and that shook the nation with this incredible divine love and grace that she was able to offer," Miles acknowledged. "But it's important we recognize the state's job according to Romans 13 is to carry the sword and to punish those who do evil. And as a Christian, I support that. I support the fullest punishment possible for anybody that had anything to do with this."

Miles explained the distinction clearly: "As a Christian, I can say, look, I need God's grace as much as anybody else does. And I can offer forgiveness for anybody involved in his killing, but that does not mean that forgiveness means there's no consequences in this life. And I believe that it's the state's job to punish to the fullest extent of the law as a deterrent for these things in the future."

He wants a full investigation to ensure anyone involved in the assassination, including those in "dark chat rooms," is held accountable.

Responding to Congressional Blame

Within days of Kirk's assassination, Democratic congresswomen AOC, Ilhan Omar, and Jasmine Crockett released statements essentially blaming Kirk for his own death because of his words and rhetoric.

Miles addressed these statements with barely contained frustration. "We've heard the phrases of live by the sword, die by the sword. Look, I've never seen anybody with a sword hand microphones over to their so-called opponents and give them three hours to talk and ask questions. If Charlie was a fascist, he was a really bad one."

He emphasized Kirk's genuine love for people, particularly young people. "Charlie loved people. He loved this generation. He was one of the few people who was willing to go where they are to some of the darker places in our society, to some of these campuses that just hate the truth."

Miles explained that Kirk went to these difficult places to share "freedom and life, trusted principles that have been held by the Western world for 2,000 years." He was trying to help a generation "so riddled with confusion and skepticism and doubt and they don't even know what gender they are, let alone who God is."

"I think anybody that's trying to put this on Charlie or blame him for it, one, they don't understand who Charlie was. And two, I think it's a despicable and shameful and cowardly act," Miles concluded.

The Path Forward

Turning Point USA is not slowing down. The organization is experiencing what can only be described as explosive growth while simultaneously grieving the loss of its founder. Staff members are hugging each other, supporting one another through the pain, while also working harder than ever.

The revival Kirk prayed for, worked for, and ultimately died for is happening. Churches are growing, Bibles are being purchased in record numbers, and young people are returning to faith. Pastors who sat on the sidelines are entering the cultural and spiritual battle.

As Miles put it, drawing on the ancient wisdom of the church: the death of the martyr is indeed the seed of the church. Charlie Kirk's assassination, rather than ending a movement, appears to have ignited one.

"Charlie would be so thrilled," Miles said. "I know he's looking down from heaven seeing all this right now. We want to make him proud."
