Eric Metaxas on Charlie Kirk's Murder: Standing Against Evil and Choosing Light in Dark Times
Eric Metaxas addresses the shocking murder of his friend Charlie Kirk and what it reveals about the spiritual battle between good and evil facing America. Speaking from Washington DC where he addressed Concerned Women for America, Eric challenges Christians to reject despair and embrace radical faith in the face of tragedy. He draws parallels between Charlie Kirk and martyrs like Dietrich Bonhoeffer, arguing that God allows even horrific events for greater purposes. Eric confronts the reality of satanic evil, the inadequacy of worldly wisdom, and the urgent need for believers to recognize that only Jesus offers the power to stand against darkness. This is a call to worship God in all circumstances, even the most devastating ones.
Praising God in All Circumstances
Eric Metaxas opens with a challenging message about praising God even in the most horrific circumstances. The Bible commands believers to praise God in all situations, not just when things are going well, but especially when facing the worst possible events. This includes processing the recent murder of Charlie Kirk, a friend and fellow faith leader whose death has sent shockwaves through the Christian and conservative communities.
Eric acknowledges that this concept is incomprehensible to many people, especially those outside the Christian faith. Yet he emphasizes that this is precisely when faith is tested most severely. The call to praise God isn't about denying the horror of what happened or pretending evil doesn't exist, but about trusting in God's sovereignty even when circumstances seem to contradict His goodness.
The Murder of Charlie Kirk and Its Spiritual Significance
Eric describes the murder of Charlie Kirk as an act of satanic evil, not merely a tragedy or political violence. He compares the impact to the death of Princess Diana, noting that when someone young and vibrant dies, the loss feels even more acute. But Charlie's death goes beyond that because he was murdered, and he was a powerful voice for truth, goodness, and faith in Jesus Christ.
Charlie Kirk was extraordinarily gifted, Eric emphasizes, using his talents to reach millions with a message of hope, patriotism, and biblical values. His work with Turning Point USA and TPUSA Faith created a movement that engaged young people on college campuses across America. His sudden, violent death leaves a void that seems impossible to fill.
Eric will be speaking with Lucas Miles, who heads TPUSA Faith and worked closely with Charlie. The show will feature several special guests throughout the week, including Victor Davis Hanson, as they process where America and the world stand in this moment.
Challenging Voices of Despair
Eric speaks forcefully against voices that promote despair or suggest America is entering a dark season. He specifically mentions reading a Peggy Noonan column in the Wall Street Journal that exemplified what he calls "hand-wringing" worldly wisdom. This kind of response, while understandable from a human perspective, is exactly what Christians must reject.
The command to "rejoice in the Lord always" isn't conditional on circumstances being favorable. God specifically gave this instruction for times of war, persecution, and suffering. Eric argues that dwelling on how dark things are becoming actually serves evil by spreading discouragement rather than hope.
Christians are called to be vessels of God's light, hope, humor, life, peace, and joy in the midst of darkness. That is the assignment, regardless of how dire external circumstances appear. Worldly wisdom that focuses on analyzing the darkness rather than shining light into it falls short of what God requires from His people.
God's Sovereignty and the Problem of Evil
Eric tackles one of the most difficult theological questions: how can a good God allow such evil? He points out that God miraculously saved Donald Trump from an assassin's bullet, which means God could have saved Charlie Kirk but chose not to. This creates a genuine theological paradox that tests the depth of people's faith.
The only conclusion, Eric argues, is that God allowed this evil for His greater purposes, just as He allowed the crucifixion of Jesus, the Holocaust, and the execution of Dietrich Bonhoeffer. This doesn't mean God approves of evil or calls it good. The crucifixion was the most horrible event in history, yet God used it for the redemption of humanity.
Eric references Romans 8:28, which promises that all things work together for good for those who love God and are called according to His purposes. This includes even the worst atrocities. While the Holocaust was evil, it led to the establishment of the state of Israel. Bonhoeffer's execution by the Nazis seemed like a tragedy, yet his martyrdom gave his writings and witness an impact that continues decades later.
Charlie Kirk, Eric believes, is a modern-day Bonhoeffer. His death will catalyze an explosion of faith in Jesus across the world that wouldn't have been possible otherwise. If you could ask Charlie whether he'd be willing to give his life for such a purpose, Eric is certain he would say yes without hesitation.
The Coming Revival
Eric predicts that Charlie's martyrdom will spark not just superficial religious interest, but genuine transformation. People won't just say they believe in Jesus and then return to secular worldviews. Instead, they'll ask what it means to live differently because of faith in Christ.
This includes radical changes in personal behavior: refusing to sleep with someone you're not married to, praying for God to send the spouse He has chosen, building families that serve God together. Young people in particular will find meaning, joy, hope, and purpose by following Charlie's example of integrating faith into every area of life.
Eric has been sensing for months that we're living in historic times. Just as God parted the Red Sea, called America into existence, and raised up Martin Luther, God is working in history right now. The murder of Charlie Kirk is part of that movement, as horrifying as that is to contemplate. The blood of the martyrs is the seed of the church, as the early church father Tertullian said in the second century.
Conservatism, patriotism, and love for America's founding principles will explode not just domestically but around the world. Eric has already seen evidence of this in places like South Korea and London, which seemed almost unbelievable to him.
Who Can Replace Charlie Kirk?
The short answer is nobody. Eric calls the question itself ridiculous, like asking who the next Bonhoeffer or Wilberforce will be. There was only one of each of those men, and there's only one Charlie Kirk. He did his job, and now the question for everyone else is: what is your job?
God created each person uniquely with specific assignments. Comparing yourself to others in a broken way is actually agreeing with Satan, Eric warns. When you think you haven't done enough or don't make enough money or aren't as effective as someone else, you're listening to the voice of the devil who murdered Charlie Kirk.
That said, the practical work Charlie did must continue. Perhaps Erika Kirk, his widow, will step in to lead Turning Point USA. Perhaps many people will take up campus tours rather than having one tour but a hundred. Charlie Kirk tours could spread across America, with voices like Frank Turek, Ben Shapiro, and others stepping into the breach. Each person brings different gifts and perspectives, and that's exactly as it should be.
The goal isn't to clone Charlie but to be faithful to your own calling. Model yourself on people you admire, but don't try to become them. You're meant to be you, and God has equipped you specifically for what He's calling you to do.
The Reality of Hell and Satanic Evil
Eric addresses the existence of hell directly, a topic many Christians avoid or downplay. If anything can galvanize believers to talk about hell, it's the murder of Charlie Kirk and the obvious manifestation of satanic evil. This isn't about people with different political viewpoints or alternative visions for government. This is about evil itself.
Over the past five years especially, observable events in America have indicated something beyond normal political conflict. When you solve for X in the equation of what's happened, it smells like evil. Charlie Kirk talked about this with Tucker Carlson, and Eric has discussed it with Tucker as well. The days of conventional political battles between figures like Gary Hart, Michael Dukakis, Bob Dole, and George H.W. Bush are over. We're now in a struggle between light and darkness, good and evil.
Recognizing that evil is real should be frightening, but in a productive way. That fear should drive people to understand that the only answer is Jesus. Being a better person or trying harder won't defeat evil. None of us has that power on our own. Only God can defeat evil, and only by submitting utterly to Jesus and His will can we stand against it.
Without God, you're dead. Your efforts to fight evil on your own will fail. If you're foolish enough to think you can do it alone, Eric prays you'll eventually realize you're outgunned and outmatched. But with Jesus, you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. Standing on the rock of Christ Jesus, you're protected by Him, and He can fight for you and through you when you yield your heart to Him.
A Call to Radical Faith
Eric rarely speaks as directly as he does in this broadcast, but he believes we're living in a new day that demands radical faith. Radical not just in theology but in the thoughts we allow ourselves to think about ourselves and others. Radical in rejecting what the enemy whispers, because Satan only needs to lead you astray a little bit to neutralize your effectiveness.
Everyone is in a battle, but God has created us for the battle, called us to it, and is with us in it. That's beautiful, not burdensome. God sees you, knows your thoughts, loves you, and has a specific plan for you. He knows you infinitely better than you can ever know yourself, and He knows what He created you to do.
For those who don't believe in God or aren't sure, Eric shares what worked for him as a young man. His friend Ed Tuttle advised him to ask God to reveal Himself, even though Eric wasn't sure God existed. If you're in enough pain or feeling lost enough, simply pray: "God, I don't know if you're there, but if you are, lead me to yourself. Give me a sign. Show me what assignment you have for me in this life."
Eric promises from personal experience that God will respond. It doesn't always happen easily or clearly, and the Christian life involves real struggles. Eric himself has battled depression for over 30 years. But even in those challenges, the command is to praise the Lord in all circumstances because God has the plan and knows the end from the beginning.
Eric mentions his work with Socrates in the City, which aims to lead people to the source of the good, true, and beautiful, which is Jesus. At the Concerned Women for America event in Washington DC, a young woman told him that her husband became a Christian through watching Socrates in the City videos, and they met at a TPUSA event. Hearing such testimonies thrills Eric because that's exactly why he does this work.
The murder of Charlie Kirk changes everything. Eric wouldn't be speaking this way if it hadn't happened. But praise God, even for this, because God is using it to awaken people to the reality of spiritual warfare and the desperate need for Jesus. Hell is real. Evil is real. And the only answer is the God who defeats both.

Hey there folks, praise the Lord. We praise the Lord in all circumstances. Hey, if you're not a Christian, if that sounds foreign to you, don't worry about it. You can praise the Lord anyway. All that is good uh in the universe, all that is beautiful and true. Just think about that. I mean, if you don't if you don't call that Jesus or God, that's that's okay. If you just think about what is good and innocent and beautiful and true and what a wonderful concept that is, what a beautiful idea that that's real. And it is real. Um, we praise that. And for me, I know who that is. It's a capital W. Uh, and um and and and the the Bible tells us to praise God in all circumstances, which means even when things are horrible. Why would it say in all circumstances? It wouldn't be that all circumstances except when things are really bad. No, precisely when things are really, really bad, when the worst thing has happened, we praise God. Now, I know that's incomprehensible to some people. We may not get into that right now, but um obviously the subtext of everything that I or almost anyone is saying these days is the murder of um my friend Charlie Kirk. And I have so many thoughts on that. I want to share some of them with you today. Um uh later today I believe I will be speaking with Lucas Miles, Pastor Lucas Miles. He's a friend of mine. He uh heads up TPUSA Faith. So he was very close with Charlie. Uh so later in the show we'll be talking to Lucas. Um, this week we have a lot of special guests this week. Uh, I, uh, uh, I'll be speaking to Victor Davis Hansen. We were going to speak to James O'Keefe. I don't know if we'll get to him this week. Um, but we have a lot of friends. Uh, and we want to ruminate on where we are in the country, in the world. Um, and so I guess uh I I there's there's so much I want to say, but before I leap in to say uh what I want to say, which I some of which I think is actually very important, uh I should ask Chris and Keith Juna if you have anything you want to say or ask me or comment on. Oh boy. I I I feel as if I I I didn't even know him, Eric, like you. And what we're hearing from so many people is that they feel as if they lost their brother, they lost their friend. Charlie was such a such a close personality that when you watched him, you you felt like you were with him and you knew him and you loved him and agreed with him. And I I think in some measure I took them for granted. I I I watched thousands of hours of his content, but to see his clips now, they're larger than life. They're prophetic. They're profound. They're eternal. And I I just think this is a watershed moment. We'll talk about this more later. >> This war of good and evil is is at a a a place that Here's a great quote. I I heard this is either the beginning of a very dark season in this country or this is the end of a very dark season in our country and we as Christians pray it is the latter. Well, look, it could be a little bit of both. But here's the thing. I I want to say this really clear. I I have to speak strongly because this isn't, you know, this is like if you're speaking to your kid who's going to run out in traffic and get clipped by a truck and die or be brain injured, you're going to scream. You're not going to say, "Um, excuse me." So, I'm I'm going to scream a little bit. Maybe not literally, but I want to speak sharply. Um, we have to know what is evil and reject it with all that is in us. And there are voices out there now um that are speaking evil or speaking things that are uh helping evil >> that are complicit with evil. And a lot of times people don't know that. Often they don't. So what what do I mean by that? When people say like, "Oh, we're facing a dark time." I want to say shut up. Like no, no, no. I even if we're facing a dark time, we're not facing a dark time. We are to praise God. We're to rejoice in the Lord always. Why does God say that clearly in the scripture? For when we face difficult things, for when we're in a war, we're in a spiritual war with evil, not with badness, with evil. And the only response to evil is Jesus, the love of the Lord of hosts. That's the only response. And so I, you know, I was in uh Washington DC. I I spoke at a concerned Women for America event. I was kind of booked at the last minute. Uh I think they they they they were promised JD Vance or Pam Bondi and the White House flaked on them or something like that. So they said, "Eric, can you do it?" And I was shocked that I actually was free, which I never seemed to be, but I was free and I went down and I'll tell you the whole thing was anointed. >> It was clearly God's will that I be there. Uh the head of Concerned Women for America used to be Beverly Leah. It is now my friend Penny Nance. Uh I've known her husband Will Nance uh and Penny for my goodness, it's got to be 26 27 years. They Will was working for Chuck Coulson and I was working for Chuck Coulson and I've known them. So they asked me to speak and I did and I really felt God sent me there to say what needed to be said and I want to talk about what I said. But on the way home, I actually uh because I was in DC, uh the Prager University folks were in DC. They were doing a special founders weekend or something. And um I was invited by uh Marissa Strikes. I always forget how to pronounce her last name. Um to be on the podcast on on the Prageru podcast with her. She's the host. So, I went to the post. I did that. That's going to air, I don't know, today or tomorrow to as soon as it airs, we will share it. Uh, and again, folks, if if you're if you want to keep up with me, you have to go to ericaxis.com and sign up for the newsletter because there's stuff that's going out all the time that I I can't, you know, I I can't send it to you this way. So, if you would do that, go to ericmataxis.com, sign up for the newsletter because there's a lot of content, a lot of things we're going to be posting. Uh, we're going to be posting a lot of videos of me talking to Charlie and and stuff. So, please >> go to ericmataxis.com if you're not, and so many people are not, but a lot of stuff I share. There's no other way to share it. >> Um, >> Eric, I'll just jump in and say that we we did go back through our archive and obviously Charlie was a friend and guest and has been on the show probably half a dozen times at least. So, we'll we'll be uh reposting those in in the coming days. So, the newsletter is a good place to find those. >> Yes. So, please do that. But the reason I bring this up is that I was in uh I always go a long way around because there's important information. But then the punchline is so there I am uh in the former Trump Hotel, the Waller story. I'm I'm going home now. I've done the podcast with Marissa, the Prageru podcast. Um, and on the way out the door in this fancy hotel, they've got, you know, complimentary newspapers, New York Times, Washington Post, uh, Wall Street Journal. Uh, you're not allowed to spit in the lobby of a hotel, so I didn't. Um, but what a world we're in where nine years ago, uh, I would have or I I already was subscribed to the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal and and now I know that they're especially the New York Times can't even compare to the Wall Street. I mean, the Wall Street Journal has it's it's not what it used to be and it's disappointing, but the Washington Post and especially the New York Times >> Yeah. are foul purveyors. >> Yeah. >> Of propaganda, of lies. Really? Now, again, organ of the the the left, but it never was what it's become, which is really foul. Which is really, really foul. It is absolutely pushing lies. Now, the people who are writing those lies mostly believe those lies. So, so you know, you you some people are knowingly lying and then there are other people that it's a they're a little less guilty because they believe these foul lies and they promote them. But the New York Times promotes these foul lies. Um, and when we come back, I want to tell you what I read in the Wall Street Journal. That's the the long way around to tell you about what I read in the Wall Street Journal that Peggy Nan wrote, uh, which annoyed me, but um, you'll see. We'll be right back. We've got a lot today, folks. Don't go away, folks. Welcome back. Obviously, we're talking about Charlie Kirk. Today is Monday, the 15th of September. We've got a lot this week. Uh I was just telling the story. I was in DC recently uh for this concerned Women's for America event. I did the Marissa uh podcast with Marissa for Prageru. Um talked to Dennis's son, one of his sons. Um >> Oh, boy. But but on the way out of the hotel, I see I would never pay a penny for any of those papers I mentioned, but I thought, "Let me see what they're saying." So, I grab the three papers. I get on my plane and I'm looking at them and there was a column by Peggy Nunan, who used to be a friend of mine, and um she I it it's interesting. The reason I thought of her was because what you said, Keith, where people are out there saying things like we're either going to have the greatest, you know, season of whatever revival and whatever or we're in for some really dark times. And and I just thought even saying we're in maybe we're in for really dark times like what and what about it? If we're in for dark times, we're supposed to praise God and rejoice in the Lord always. If they come for you with a gun, if they come to kill you like they killed Charlie, if they get, we are to praise God. Now, if you don't get that, let me just tell you, God wants you to get that. So, no guilt trip, but open your heart and say, "God, if you're there, help me to understand this because this is foreign to me. I don't get what Eric is saying. Just ask God to help you because this is really important." And so, the Peggy Nan column was kind of like this hand ringing. And that's kind of that's Peggy and and that's why I don't like to read her because it's it's this kind of hand ringing thing. And to me it's it's like worldly wisdom like we're going through a dark period. Okay. So we're going through a dark period. What is God's answer to the dark period to talk about how we're going through a dark period or to rejoice to be a force for light in the midst of the darkness. >> And so the kind of hand ringing like oh things are bad. And it was the same back I you know uh I I knew Peggy uh you know during 9/11 and it was that same like oh wow and you know somehow we have to break through that folks and we have to shine the light of God, the light of Jesus, the light of truth and goodness and hope and humor and life and peace and joy. We have to be vessels for God in the midst of the darkness. So that's really our assignment which brings me to the question of um well I I want to say this. This is an important point which I think I'm going to be making over and over again. We all know and I said this the other day. We all know that what happened is horrible. There's no doubt about that. Doesn't get more horrible honestly. Um uh and it kind of reminds me of when Princess Diana died, right? When somebody young and beautiful dies, it's much more horrible than if an old person expires in their hospital bed. Why? We We don't even need to articulate why. But Charlie is way beyond that. Charlie was murdered. He didn't die in a car accident. He was murdered. Um and he was, let's be clear, a voice of truth and goodness and life and faith in Jesus. Remarkable. Like a remarkable a a a an extraordinarily gifted human being. like just outrageously gifted. Okay. Um, so why do I say that? I say that because everybody has the right question. Laura Loomer is asking it like I don't get it. How can you believe in God when God would allow this? It doesn't make any sense. That's correct. Like on some level it makes no sense. So apart from God, this is incomprehensible. Utterly incomprehensible. But with God, it's different. And what do I mean by that? I mean I know that God miraculously saved Donald Trump's life from the bullet. Miraculously. Now if I know that it follows logically to say he did not do that with Charlie Kirk. Why? Okay. Well first of all you have to say he could have God could have miraculously saved Charlie Kirk. So I think the only conclusion is and this is really going to test your faith to know do you really know God and love God or not really. You have to believe that God allowed this evil. God allowed it. Now it's still evil. It's horrifying. Just like the crucifixion of Jesus was horrifying. Just like the death of Bonhaofer was horrifying. Just like the Holocaust was horrifying. And just like all kinds of things that some of you listening have experienced in your lives are horrifying. Rape and murder and whatever it is, abuse is horrifying. So we have to and and again I think this challenges us in a healthy way to think about what do you believe about God? Who is God? You have to say okay God allows this evil. It is evil. So it's not saying that God approves of it. And this is the trick. You you you can't there are a lot of people that act like well God approved of it. No this is the conundrum. This is the paradox and this is what makes it tricky. God calls it evil just as the crucifixion of Jesus is is the most horrible thing in the world. But God allows it for his greater purposes. Now if you think you're better than God, you'll say that's stupid. What could be his greater purposes? It doesn't make any sense to me. But like look, I get that. But you're mistaken. God has greater purposes. If you know him to be the author of all life and all goodness and all truth, if you know who he really is, then you have to trust his larger purposes. And particularly when you are challenged as we are by something as satanic, demonic, evil as what we've just seen. That's particularly when you have to say, "What do I believe? In whom do I believe? Do I really believe in him? Do I really trust him? And this is very challenging. And so to say that God is sovereign, again, the cavalier version of that, it's like, well, God's sovereign, so everything's great that happens. And no, no. But the scripture, there's a few scriptures that can guide us in this. And one of them is Romans 8:28. All things work together for good for those that love the Lord and are called according to his purposes. All things, every horrible thing, the crucifixion of Jesus, the Holocaust, all things, the worst things you can mention, God says, "For those that love me and are called according to my purposes, even those things, and in some ways, especially those things work together for good." So we can see that and again this is kind of on a surface level but you see like well if it weren't for the Holocaust the state of Israel wouldn't have come into being. So we don't want the Holocaust to happen but God allowed it and the state of Israel comes into being. Now there's some people who don't care about that. I care about that. If you love Jesus you should care about that. Um the death of Dietrich Bonhofer. I mean uh Charlie Kirk is for sure a Bonhoffer. Charlie Kirk is for sure a modern-day Bonhoffer. If there's anybody who is a modern-day Bonhaofer, it's Charlie Kirk. The Lord allowed Bonhaofer, the extremely brilliant Christian Dedric Bonhaofer, to be murdered by the Nazis. He could have gotten out of it. God could have done something. He didn't. So, we have to believe God chose to use this for his purposes. We wouldn't be talking about Bonhoffer, I think, if he had lived. Um, and I think it's similar with Charlie. I think that God allowed this for his purposes. I think we are going to see an explosion of faith in Jesus across the world that would not have been possible without the Kirk. I got to tell you, if I were asking Charlie about this, Charlie, are you good with that? Guarantee you folks, he'd be like, "Yeah, I want to do whatever and be available to God for whatever are his purposes in history." And we are going to see folks, we've we're seeing it already, revival. And again, not just revival, not just, oh, Jesus, Jesus, I believe in Jesus. No, no, I believe in Jesus, and therefore, I'm going to live differently. Uh, I'm going to to to never sleep with somebody that I'm not married to ever. I'm going to pray that God send me the spouse that he has chosen for me and I want to marry that person and have a family with that person and serve God with that person. Um, we're living in a new day. People are going to not just find God theologically, but find what does that mean in life? That gives meaning to my life. It gives joy and hope and purpose to my life. And how can I be like Charlie Kirk? How can I do what he was doing? How can I be a part of the answer and rejoice that God allows me to be part of the answer? Uh God wants every person, especially every young person, to have hope and to say that God has a plan for you, a wonderful plan for you. And and by the way, folks, we should always compare ourselves to Charlie Kirk and Bonhaofer and anybody else and also not compare ourselves because when you say, "Who's going to replace Charlie Kirk?" Nobody. How ridiculous. There's only one Charlie Kirk. There's only one you. >> There's only one you. And you're meant to be you. And when you compare yourself to people in that broken way, you're complicit with Satan. And you need to understand that. When you say, "Oh, I I I don't make enough money. I haven't done enough this. I haven't done." That's the voice of the devil. You want to agree with that? You're working along with Satan who murdered Charlie Kirk. This is a challenge for every one of us that walk day by day in our thought life. What do we say? What comes out of our mouths about ourselves, about other people? This is a challenge, but it's God challenging us. It's beautiful. God is using this to push us to deeper faith, to real faith, to glorify him. We are going to see things, folks, that saints have prayed about for centuries. Um, yeah, we'll be right back. Obviously, we're talking about Charlie Kirk. Um, we're going to have a lot of folks on this week, uh, coming up on this program. Our friend Lucas Miles, uh, who worked very, very closely with Charlie, um, and, uh, and and other folks, David Angelhart, who, uh, was extremely close to Charlie. He's on the board of TPUSA. Um, and he's my pastor, David Angelhart, here at uh, King's Church in New York City. Um, we're probably going to be together this weekend in Phoenix as my guest. There's going to be this event. Uh, I'm not sure the details, but we'll be seeing as as it goes. A lot going on here in New York. Um, tomorrow night, Tuesday, September 16th, is the first Socrates in the City book club here in New York City at the Union League Club. I believe I will be there. Um, and on September 18th, Thursday, we've got a big uh patrons dinner. If you're a patron of Socrates in the City, we have a patrons dinner in New York here in Manhattan this Thursday. And next Thursday in Dallas. Uh, so a lot a lot a lot uh going on. I will be in Dallas also speaking um at uh Metroplex Women's Center. That's Saturday, December 27th. That's next week. Wow, so much going on. Then I'm back in DC for the Religious Liberty Commission. Um lots going on, folks. Lots going on. >> And also a reminder on the Socrates front, we have a match going on. That's very exciting. >> Oh. Oh. Oh. Match campaign. >> Thank you. Yeah. >> Yeah. folks, you know, I mean, most of you listening to this program know what I'm about. Uh, and in in many, many ways, it's exactly what Charlie was about. Uh, it's just me being me. Uh, we each have our own lane, our own assignment from God. Um, and Socrates in the City is a big part of my assignment from God. And so, uh, if you're interested in knowing more about it, go to Socratesinthecity.com. I was just at this Concerned Women for America event and afterward after I spoke all these women are coming up to me wanting a picture or to meet me or whatever which blesses my socks off. I mean I want to tell you like I you know I'm rarely recognized in uh in in airports or anything like that. I don't have that that level of uh people noticing me. But at these events there people come up to me and they're so sweet. And one young woman came up to me, introduced me to her young husband, and she said that they met at a TPUSA event, I think, and she says her husband was not a Christian and that he became a Christian through watching Socrates in the City videos. And I said, you know what? That's one of the greatest things I could ever hear. It's why I do Socrates in the City is to lead people to the source of the good, the true, and the beautiful. And that source is Jesus. That source is the God of the Bible. And so when she said that to me, I thought, "What a testimony." Because, you know, you don't get to hear this kind of stuff a lot. You know, stuff goes on out there. People are watching on the internet and you don't know what's going on. So to hear something like that thrills me. He becomes a Christian. They're married. They're serving God together. What a beautiful thing for me to hear because, you know, that's why I do all that I do. and especially Socrates in the City. So, but check out Socrates City.com and there's a >> there's a match going on. So, if you go to Socratesinthecity.com/match, we're trying to double the uh the donation of $25,000 and that will let us reach 500,000 more viewers. So, that's the goal. Socrates.com/match. >> I wouldn't have put it so so uh intelligently. That's really um that's well said because if you're supporting Socrates in the city, what you're doing is you're enabling us to get it out more, to do more, and to get it out more. And when people see these things on video, I just mentioned, good things happen. There are all kinds of people on a journey. There are many people who are already Christians, but they need to be fed intellectually. They need to understand more in depth about what does it mean to be a Christian. And that's why I was saying before about, you know, when you accept Jesus, it's not just about, okay, I'm done and I go back to my pathetic secular worldview. No, God wants to transform your mind to think along his lines in everything in politics. And that's obviously what Charlie did, right? He he didn't just say, "Well, I'm a Christian, so okay, there's that. Now, let's move on to other stuff." Your faith in the God of the Bible affects everything. It affects how you treat your enemies. You pray for your enemies. You love your enemies. You try to help your enemies see what they're getting wrong. Charlie did that. He lived that out. Your faith is supposed to affect everything. And if you're going to a church, by the way, that doesn't get that, get out of the church. Get out. If you're going to a church that didn't bring up Charlie's name yesterday on Sunday, >> right? I I just want to challenge you folks that that is amazing that you would think that that's okay because this is so monstrously important that the his murder uh and there people like well there are many people listen a lot of it is just ignorance. A lot of people do not understand what a loving human being Charlie was and they bought a little bit of this lie and so in ignorance they think well maybe he was a little racist or a little homophobic or a little ladies and gentlemen I can tell you that is not true. Now there are racist nasty people out there. Okay I won't mention his name but Nick Fuentes for example. There are people that are purveying hate and and garbage. Now, they always mix it in with some truth to kind of pull you in. Like they're going to say something you to go, "Yeah, I agree with that." Do you agree that there too many immigrants in America? Yeah, I agree with that. Okay. And then they keep talking and, you know, a couple hours down the line they kind of steer you in a genuinely racist direction. Charlie Kirk never did that. Um, I never heard him say anything I disagreed with. Charlie is just like right on in everything. But there are people who don't know that. And um if you're going to a church that doesn't get this, >> the hour is late after what just happened, you need to be in a place where you are being fed the truth. And if you've got one of these pastors playing that game, um when we come back, I'll tell you more about that. And I'm going to tell you about who can replace Charlie Kirk. Welcome back. It's the Eric Mataxis show. Please uh subscribe to my YouTube channel, Eric Mataxis. Please subscribe to the Socrates in the City YouTube channel. Uh we mentioned that there is a matching grant right now and um look uh we need your help to push out what we're doing. We're doing so much that I rarely get to even talk about it on this program. Um we're making a spectacular TV series based on my book is Atheism Dead? Um I'm going to be talking about that a lot in the future. Uh we've got a lot of exciting opportunities. We are at the beginning of revival in America. Uh the murder of Charlie uh was a piece of that that something has happened. The scripture talks about you know unless uh a a a piece of wheat die and fallen to the ground or whatever that that >> death in this world can lead to eternal life in a way that um there's a spiritual truth there. And and the fact is that you don't want people to die. But the scripture sorry the scripture there's a state statement by Tertullian in the second century. He's one of the early church fathers. He said the blood of the martyrs is the seed of the church. Charlie Kirk is a martyr. >> Yeah. >> He didn't just talk about politics. He spoke endlessly about the source of everything he believed and that was his faith in Jesus. So he's a martyr. His death is the seed of the church. The church is going to explode in growth. Conservatism and patriotism, love of America, love of the principles that build our nation are going to explode around the world. Not just in America, but around the world. We saw it around the world. We saw it in South Korea. We saw it in London. Hard for me to believe, frankly. My eyes are like, can this be real? Something is happening. We're living in historic times. A lot of people like, "Ah, nothing ever changes." Absolutely wrong. As surely as God one day parted the Red Sea, as surely as one day God called the United States into existence, into history, uh, as surely as one day Martin Luther was born into the world. God works in history. And we are living in historic times. I've been saying this for months that I I I've sensed this in my spirit. We're living in historic times. And you you don't want to miss it. You want to say, "Wow, God, I want to be a part of this. Lead me and guide me." And so, I want to say this before I get to Who Can Replace Charlie Kirk, I want to say um every everyone listening to this program, if you don't believe in God or you're not sure, do what I did uh as a young man. A friend of mine, my friend Ed Tuttle, who led me to faith, he said, "Well, ask God to reveal himself to you." Yeah. >> And I thought, well, that's dumb. I don't even know if God is there. So, how can I ask God to Well, I'll tell you what. If you're in enough pain, which I was, and if you're lost enough, and you you say, "Okay, God, I don't know if you're there, but if you're there, lead me to yourself. Give me a sign. Lead me to the right people. Show me the way. Show me what is your assignment for me in this life. What do you have for me? Uh, I I if there's anything that's good and beautiful and true, I want to be on board with that. Lead me and guide me in that. And and folks, I got to tell you, I promise you, he will. That I can say this from experience because it's the kind of thing you go, I don't know. Just take it from me. He will. He will. That doesn't mean it's always easy or it's always clear. Um there are uh Chris Heimmes and Keith Genta can because you know we're around the same age can say that sometimes it's really challenging. We're in a battle. We're in a war. Sometimes it's really really tough. I don't talk about that too much on this program. I've struggled with depression for 30 plus years. It kind of comes and goes and when it when it comes it's horrible. And you say, "Lord, I don't get this. Why can't you heal me of this?" Um, we've all struggled in different ways. And you know what? You praise the Lord in all circumstances. God has the plan. He knows the end before the beginning. Um, and and so I want to say that it's because of the challenges that we need God. Not because of the good times, not because of the success and the victory. And so I want to just challenge everybody. Uh, this is why we're here. I rarely speak so on the nose, but we're living in a new day. And we need to be radical in our faith. Radical in in in the thoughts that we allow us to think about ourselves and others. Radical in rejecting what the enemy wants to whisper to you because he wants to whisper to you. He wants to lead you just astray a little bit. That's all he needs. So, we're all in a battle, but God has created us for the battle. He's called us to the battle. He's with us in the battle. And that's that's beautiful. So, it's not like, "Well, I don't know. Does God see me?" Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. He sees you. He knows your thoughts. He loves you. He has a plan for you. So, we're living in a new day, folks. We're living in a new day where this I wouldn't be saying this if Charlie hadn't been killed last week, would I? I'd be talking about something else, I guess. Well, praise God. Okay. So, who can replace Charlie? Short answer, nobody. And how stupid even to say such a thing. Like, it's so silly. Like, when people say, "Who who's the next Bonhaofer? Who cares? Who cares? Who's the next? There is no next Bonhaofer. There is only Bonhaofer. There's only Wilberforce. They did their job. What is your job? Your job is to be the next you and to cast aside these creepy thoughts of wanting to be somebody else. You can model yourself on other people. And that's beautiful. You know, we model ourselves on Jesus, but you're not meant to be Jesus, but you're meant to do what Jesus did is open yourself up to the will of God 100%. Yes, that's correct. Uh, but you're not supposed to die on the cross. You're not supposed to wander around Palestine preaching. You're supposed to do what God has given you an assignment. What has God given us as an assignment? I hope I'm doing what he asked me to do right now, this minute, and when I get off the air, I hope I'm doing exactly what, you know, we all have an assignment. And it's beautiful. It's not ownorous like, oh, I got to do this. I have this burden, this big thing I have to do. No, no, no, no. God loves you. He's with you. He made you. He knows you infinitely more than you can ever know yourself. He knows what he created you to do. And so the idea of who can replace Charlie, I mean, listen, nobody. Now, who's going to head up TPUSA? Well, that's another question. Maybe it's Erica, his widow. Uh, it seems to me probably uh that she will step step in to do that. Who will continue the campus tours? I don't know. Maybe a hundred people. Maybe I will be part of a team uh Frank Turk. Um there are so many wonderful voices uh that could step into the brereech and could be a part of something to so that we don't have a campus tour but a hundred campus tours something amazing. Uh Charlie Kirk tours around America. How beautiful that would be. Um, I guess, uh, you know, Ben Shapiro, uh, in some ways is extremely qualified to do that. Everybody's different, folks. You're not supposed to be anybody but you. Um, we'll be right back. Hey there, folks. Welcome back. In a minute, we're talking to Lucas Miles, who's the head of TPUSA Faith, uh, that, uh, was headed up by my colleague Jared Fleming. Um, and it is so important and it's so amazing that Lucas Miles is heading that up. So, he's going to come on to this program today to talk about Charlie, to talk about TPUSA faith, uh, and and about his new book, which actually came out, which is you'll see right on the money. Um, uh, I want to I want to say a few other things. One of those things is that hell is real. I have heard Christians over the years or or non-Christians often say like,"Well, why do you have to talk about fear of hell because I don't want you to go there forever because it's real." Um, and I think if anything can galvanize the saints to talk about hell, it is the murder of Charlie Kirk, the obvious existence of satanic evil. We're not talking about people with a different point of view. uh you know we're not talking about people that have a you know a view of the role of government that that no we're talking about satanic evil and we've been seeing it in our time the last number of years we've seen it a lot um Charlie actually talked about in a conversation he was having with Tucker Carlson I have talked to Tucker Carlson about it when you are solving for X in an algebraic equation you you when you look at what has happened in this country just in the last 5 years you say what can account for what I'm seeing It smells like evil. It doesn't smell like we're having a political battle. It's a struggle uh between, you know, Gary Hart, Dick Jeart, Michael Dakus, uh Bob Dole, you know, George uh Bush Senior. Those days are gone. We're talking about light and darkness, good and evil. And it's important for us to understand evil is real. But why? Because once you see that evil is real, you see the only answer is Jesus. It's not well be a better person, be this, be that. No. God is the only answer. Only God has the power to defeat evil. You do not. None of us does. None of us does. And it's only by submitting utterly to Jesus and his will that we can stand against evil. And you should be scared by evil. You should be scared enough to say, "I need God." Without God, you're dead. You're worse than dead. You cannot stand against evil. And I think that the revelation to many people of the existence of evil is God's way of pushing us toward himself and saying, "Yes, yes, you need me. You need a savior. You need someone to save you. You can't save yourself. You're dead. Your goose is cooked. You can't do it. If you're dumb enough to think you can do it, um my prayer would be that you would eventually see, okay, I can't. I am outgunned. I lose. We lose going up against satanic evil. And that's what we're up against. And so we need Jesus. With Jesus, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. If I'm standing on the rock, Christ Jesus, I am in him. I am protected by him. And he can fight for me and he can fight through me if I yield my heart to him. That's God's will for us. And so all of the manifestations of actual evil in the last number of years has been a wonderful wakeup call for people to say, you know what, okay, I didn't really believe in God or evil. I I kind of get it now. This is the bigger picture. Uh this is not some political battle. This is a battle between the forces of light and the forces of darkness. I want to be on the side of light. And um if I could say anything to any of you, I would say open your heart today to Jesus. He has an amazing, glorious plan specifically for you. Open your heart and see what he does. God bless you.
