Senator Rick Scott Proposes October 14 as a National Day of Remembrance for Charlie Kirk

[00:02] Like most of Americans, my wife Ann and

[00:04] I are completely heartbroken by the

[00:06] tragic loss of our friend and fellow

[00:09] patriot

[00:10] Charlie Kirk in a despicable targeted

[00:14] assassination.

[00:17] This is a devastating loss for his wife

[00:20] Erica and their two precious kids and

[00:24] the millions, including myself, who felt

[00:26] the impact of Charlie's work and were

[00:29] inspired by his devotion to God and his

[00:31] beliefs.

[00:33] Charlie was a good man, a devout

[00:37] husband, father, and friend. His life

[00:40] was shaped by his faith and the idea

[00:43] that in America,

[00:45] debate and discussion are crucial to the

[00:48] betterment of our country.

[00:50] He believed in God, the American dream,

[00:54] the family, the value of family, and the

[00:57] principles of our great nation.

[00:59] I talked to Charlie pretty much every

[01:01] week. I did his shows often. I did his

[01:04] shows his show two days before the

[01:06] assassination.

[01:09] We talked about, you know, that he was

[01:11] going to be going uh to another college

[01:13] to visit. I've done I've gone to college

[01:15] to visit and it's it's um it's

[01:18] uplifting. Uh but Charlie would go and

[01:22] he uh he would take anybody's question

[01:24] and have a conversation with him and he

[01:27] just was

[01:29] the most wonderful person to talk to and

[01:32] so many people in this country looked up

[01:33] to him.

[01:34] Charlie dedicated his life to the idea

[01:36] that the power of our ideas can not only

[01:39] win the day, but start a movement. And

[01:42] that's exactly what he did. As the

[01:44] founder and executive director of the

[01:46] nonprofit Turning Point USA, he and his

[01:49] team worked to build thousands of

[01:51] chapters across the nation dedicated to

[01:54] educating students about the principles

[01:56] of freedom, free markets, and limited

[01:59] government.

[02:01] Charlie inspired millions of young

[02:03] Americans to be involved in the future

[02:05] of their country and make their voices

[02:07] heard. He traveled to college campuses

[02:09] around the nation to share ideas and

[02:12] talk about them. And Charlie was never

[02:14] afraid to have a conversation. He didn't

[02:17] care if you agreed or disagreed with his

[02:19] ideas. He welcomed the opportunity to to

[02:23] respectfully and peacefully debate ideas

[02:26] in the court of public opinion.

[02:29] Unfortunately, Charlie Charlie was taken

[02:31] for us in a disgusting act of political

[02:33] violence on September 10th, 2025.

[02:37] But his legacy lives on. Charlie will

[02:40] long be remembered for his love of God,

[02:43] his family, and this great nation

[02:46] and the impact he had on each and every

[02:48] one of us. We have the opportunity to

[02:50] carry on his memory by believing in the

[02:52] power of ideas, discussion, and the

[02:55] value of our nation. As we mourn this

[02:58] massive loss, let us gather together in

[03:00] our communities and pray for his family

[03:02] and our nation. And let us honor Charlie

[03:05] by believing in the power of our ideas

[03:06] to win the day and leave this nation a

[03:09] better place. I'm proud to have the

[03:12] support of more than 20 of my colleagues

[03:14] to honor Charlie by dedicating his

[03:16] birthday, October 14, 2025,

[03:20] as National Day of Remembrance for

[03:21] Charlie Kirk. I want to thank my Senate

[03:24] colleagues for uniting together to honor

[03:26] a great American patriot, leader, and

[03:30] friend. Charlie will be remembered for

[03:32] the profound impact he had on our lives

[03:34] and our nation. October 14th, we will

[03:37] gather together as a nation and pay

[03:39] tribute to his great life. Thank you,
