Honoring Charlie Kirk's Vision in Montana
Vivek Ramaswamy joined Montana leaders at a significant Turning Point USA event that celebrated the continuing work and amplified mission of the organization following Charlie Kirk's passing. The event showcased how Charlie's widow, Erika Kirk, prayed about the organization's growth and how that vision is now being delivered across the country.
Speakers at the Montana event emphasized Charlie Kirk's remarkable self-education and discipline. Despite not being a college graduate, Charlie educated himself in economics, history, philosophy, and theology by reading what the great minds had written, becoming better educated than most college graduates. His work gave young conservatives the courage to speak openly about their views after years of being told to shut up and sit down on college campuses.
The Question Facing the Conservative Movement
Ramaswamy posed what he considers the tough question for the future of the conservative movement: Do we care about defeating the left or do we care about saving the country? The answer delivered at the Montana event was resounding - saving the country matters most.
"This isn't about owning the libs, it is owning responsibility for our nation," Ramaswamy explained. He outlined a framework centered on individual, family, nation, and God, rather than obsessing over race, gender, sexuality, or climate. This shift in focus represents a fundamental reorientation of conservative priorities from opposition to affirmation.
Understanding Gen Z's Lost Faith in the American Dream
Ramaswamy expressed understanding for why Gen Z has lost conviction in the American Dream. Housing feels out of reach for young people. Young workers are working hard yet feel like they aren't able to get ahead. Free speech even feels like an illusion, especially after Charlie Kirk's assassination in cold blood.
His message to Gen Z was direct: "You can't be cynical about our country. It's the last best hope we have on earth and our job as leaders to revive a new American dream in this country." The question is no longer what conservatives are running from, but what they are running to - and that destination is a renewed American Dream.
The Montana event featured about an hour and a half of Q&A discussion, allowing young attendees to engage directly with these ideas and find pathways forward.
Guided by Gratitude: Ramaswamy's Personal Story
When asked how he maintains such positivity and optimism in today's political climate, Ramaswamy pointed to gratitude for America. His parents came to this country with nothing. He founded successful companies and married a successful surgeon who also came from an immigrant family with nothing to their name. Now they're raising their kids in circumstances their parents would have never imagined 45 years ago.
"The extraordinary thing about that story in this country is it's not that extraordinary in the United States of America," Ramaswamy noted. People at the highest levels of the country in politics and business have lived similar versions of the American Dream. He knows it exists and is real because he's lived it, and this gratitude guides him in wanting to share that possibility with young people who are understandably struggling.
Reviving the American Dream Through Practical Solutions
Ramaswamy outlined concrete steps to revive the new American Dream for the next generation. This includes bringing down the cost of housing by building more homes and celebrating free speech culturally as conservatives. But he emphasized the harder part: conservatives must hold themselves to their own standards.
"Don't play by the rules of the other side silencing, canceling, berating," he urged. "We hold ourselves to the Founding Fathers, that's harder to do but our call to action going forward and what we spent most of last night talking about in Montana."
Supporting Trump's Crime Crackdown in Blue Cities
The discussion turned to President Trump's efforts to crack down on crime, particularly in blue cities like Chicago and Portland. An opinion piece framed the issue as Democrats having themselves to blame for Trump's National Guard patrols. The political battle lines have been drawn with Trump against the criminals and Democrats against Trump, rather than Democrats joining the fight against crime.
Ramaswamy reframed the issue: "I think on one hand I don't disagree it's Trump against the criminals. It's 90% of this country against criminals." He emphasized that 90% of Americans agree they want to enjoy a walk in their city without fear of looking over their shoulder for being beaten up or murdered. This is a right versus wrong issue, not left versus right.
Data-Driven Solutions to Violent Crime
Maintaining his spirit of positivity and solutions, Ramaswamy presented hard facts about violent crime. The vast majority of crimes are committed by a tiny number of people. Even looking at the locations of crimes in a city, over 50% of crimes are committed in 5% or less of a city's locations.
"The fact of the matter is we know how to solve this. Policing gets this done. Most of us agree," Ramaswamy stated. He criticized the Democratic Party for being held hostage to a tiny fringe of their base on this issue, but emphasized that it's up to the Republican side to lead with actual policy solutions rather than just arguing and name-calling.

[00:58] HE EDUCATED HIMSELF.
[01:00] AND FRANKLY, BETTER THAN MOST
[01:03] COLLEGE GRADUATES.
[01:05] HE DISCIPLINED HIMSELF TO LEARN
[01:09] ECONOMICS, HISTORY, PHILOSOPHY,
[01:14] THEOLOGY.
[01:14] HE READ WHAT THE GREAT MINDS HAD
[01:17] WRITTEN.
[01:17] >> FOR YEARS COLLEGE STUDENTS
[01:19] WITH CONSERVATIVE VIEWS LIKE
[01:20] MANY OF YOU WERE TAUGHT TO SHUT
[01:22] UP, SIT DOWN, KEEP THEIR VIEWS

[01:26] YEAR WE REACHED A NEW DAWN IN
[01:28] THIS COUNTRY.

[01:32] YOU STARTED TO FEEL FREE TO
[01:33] SPEAK IN THE OPEN AGAIN.
[01:34] IF WE HAVE THE COURAGE TO STAND
[01:36] FOR WHAT IS RIGHT, WHAT IS TRUE,
[01:38] WHAT IS GOOD, WHAT IS BEAUTIFUL,
[01:41] THAT HAS ALWAYS BEEN THE
[01:42] AMERICAN WAY.
[01:43] >> Harris: VIVEK, IT IS GREAT TO
[01:45] SEE YOU AND LISTEN TO SOME OF
[01:47] THOSE WORDS FROM LAST NIGHT.

[02:01] CHARLIE'S LEGACY AND THE LEGACY
[02:03] OF OUR FOUNDING FATHERS IS TO
[02:05] ASK WHAT WE ACTUALLY STAND FOR.
[02:07] I THINK THIS IS THE TOUGH
[02:09] QUESTION FOR THE FUTURE FORK IN
[02:10] THE WORD FOR THE CONSERVATIVE
[02:12] MOVEMENT.
[02:12] DO WE CARE ABOUT DEFEATING THE
[02:15] LEFT OR DO WE CARE ABOUT SAVING
[02:17] THE COUNTRY?
[02:18] THE QUESTION WE ANSWERED LAST
[02:19] NIGHT RESOUNDINGLY IS WE CAVE
[02:20] ABOUT SAVING THE COUNTRY.
[02:22] THIS ISN'T ABOUT OWNING THE
[02:26] LIBS, IT IS OWNING
[02:27] RESPONSIBILITY FOR OUR NATION,
[02:28] INDIVIDUAL, FAMILY, NATION AND
[02:30] GOD, STAND FOR THAT INSTEAD OF
[02:31] WORRYING ABOUT RACE, GENDER,
[02:33] SEXUALITY OR CLIMATE.
[02:34] I THINK A LOT OF THOSE YOUNG
[02:37] PEOPLE.
[02:37] I UNDERSTAND WHY GEN Z HAS LOST
[02:39] THEIR CONVICTION IN THE AMERICAN
[02:41] DREAM.
[02:42] HOUSING FEELS OUT OF REACH,
[02:43] YOUNG WORKERS ARE WORKING HARD
[02:44] YET THEY FEEL LIKE THEY AREN'T
[02:46] ABLE TO GET AHEAD.
[02:48] FREE SPEECH EVEN FEELS LIKE AN
[02:50] ILLUSION WHEN THE GUY WHO GAVE
[02:52] YOU INSPIRATION WAS ASSASSINATED
[02:54] IN COLD BLOOD.
[02:55] MY MENTION TO GEN Z.
[02:57] YOU CAN'T BE CYNICAL ABOUT OUR
[02:59] COUNTRY.
[02:59] IT'S THE LAST BEST HOPE WE HAVE
[03:00] ON EARTH AND OUR JOB AS LEADERS
[03:02] TO REVIVE A NEW AMERICAN DREAM
[03:04] IN THIS COUNTRY.
[03:05] NOT WHAT WE'RE RUNNING FROM, BUT
[03:07] NOW THE QUESTION IS WHAT ARE WE
[03:09] RUNNING TO.
[03:10] IT IS TO THAT NEW AMERICAN DREAM
[03:11] AND THAT'S THE VISION WE LAID
[03:13] OUT LAST NIGHT.
[03:14] IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL DISCUSSION
[03:17] WITH ABOUT AN HOUR AND A HALF OF
[03:19] Q & A THAT FOLLOWED.
[03:20] >> Harris: I'VE INTERVIEWED MANY
[03:21] TIMES.
[03:22] WE DID A VOTERS' VOICES GROUP
[03:24] LIVE IN STUDIO.
[03:25] ALL THE THINGS.
[03:26] I HAVE TO ASK YOU IN POLITICS
[03:28] AND WHAT THEY ARE TODAY AND IN
[03:31] TEACHING THOSE YOUNG PEOPLE HOW
[03:32] DO YOU STAY SO POSITIVE AND SO
[03:34] OPTIMISTIC AND GET THEM TO DO
[03:38] IT?
[03:38] >> WELL, I'M GUIDED BY GRATITUDE
[03:40] TO THIS COUNTRY.
[03:41] YOU THINK ABOUT IT.
[03:44] MY PARENTS CAME TO THIS COUNTRY
[03:47] WITH NOTHING.
[03:48] I'VE FOUNDED SUCCESSFUL COMPANY,
[03:51] MARRIED MY LIFE, A SUCCESSFUL
[03:55] SURGEON WHO COME.
[03:56] IMMIGRANTS WHO CAME WITH NOTHING
[03:57] TO THEIR NAME AND RAISING OUR
[03:58] KIDS NOW IN CIRCUMSTANCES OUR
[04:02] PARENTS WOULD HAVE NEVER
[04:03] IMAGINED 45 YEARS AGO.
[04:04] THE EXTRAORDINARY THING ABOUT
[04:05] THAT STORY IN THIS COUNTRY IS
[04:07] IT'S NOT THAT EXTRAORDINARY IN
[04:09] THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
[04:10] LOOK AT PEOPLE AT THE HIGHEST
[04:11] LEVELS OF THIS COUNTRY FROM
[04:13] POLITICS TO BUSINESS.
[04:13] THESE ARE PEOPLE WHO HAVE LIVED
[04:15] THAT AMERICAN DREAM.
[04:16] I KNOW IT EXISTS AND IT'S REAL
[04:18] BECAUSE I'VE LIVED IT AND
[04:20] GRATEFUL AND GUIDED BY GRATITUDE
[04:22] AND I WANT TO SHARE THAT
[04:23] GRATITUDE WITH YOUNG PEOPLE MANY
[04:25] OF WHOM ARE UNDERSTANDABLY
[04:27] STRUGGLING.
[04:27] WE HAVE TO REVIVE THAT NEW
[04:30] AMERICAN DREAM, WE BRING DOWN
[04:32] THE COST OF HOUSING BUILDING
[04:33] MORE HOMES AND CELEBRATING FREE
[04:35] SPEECH AND CULTURALLY AS
[04:37] CONSERVATIVES.
[04:38] THE HARDER PART FOR US, HOLD
[04:40] OURSELVES TO OUR OWN STANDARDS.
[04:42] DON'T PLAY BY THE RULES OF THE
[04:43] OTHER SIDE SILENCEINGS,
[04:45] CANCELING, BERATING.
[04:48] WE HOLD OURSELVES TO THE
[04:50] FOUNDING FOUNDERS, THAT'S HARDER
[04:52] TO DO BUT OUR CALL TO ACTION
[04:54] GOING FORWARD AND WHAT WE SPENT
[04:55] MOST OF LAST NIGHT TALKING ABOUT
[04:57] IN MONTANA.
[04:58] >> Harris: WE'LL APPLY THAT
[05:00] OPTIMISM TO SOMETHING THAT
[05:01] PRESIDENT TRUMP IS TRYING
[05:02] MIGHTILY TO ACCOMPLISH.
[05:04] THAT IS TO CRACK DOWN ON CRIME
[05:08] PARTICULARLY IN BLUE CITIES.
[05:09] CHICAGO AND PORTLAND IN "FOCUS."
[05:12] A OPINION PIECE DARING USE
[05:15] DEMOCRATS HAVE THEMSELVES TO
[05:16] BLAME FOR TRUMP'S NATIONAL GUARD
[05:18] PATROLS.
[05:19] WE LED INTO IT WITH A BIT OF
[05:20] REPORTING.
[05:22] THIS IS NOW TRUMP AGAINST THE
[05:24] CRIMINALS AND THE DEMOCRATS
[05:25] AGAINST TRUMP.
[05:25] THEY ARE NOT FIGHTING THE RIGHT
[05:28] PEOPLE HERE.
[05:31] >> LOOK, I THINK ON ONE HAND I
[05:33] DON'T DISAGREE IT'S TRUMP
[05:34] AGAINST THE CRIMINALS.
[05:36] IT'S 90% OF THIS COUNTRY AGAINST
[05:38] CRIMINALS.
[05:42] 90% OF US AGREE YOU WANT TO
[05:44] ENJOY A WALK OF YOUR CITY
[05:47] WITHOUT THE FEAR OF LOOKING OVER
[05:49] YOUR SHOULDER FOR BEING BEATEN
[05:51] UP OR MURDERED.
[05:52] THAT'S A RIGHT VERSUS WRONG
[05:54] ISSUE, NOT LEFT VERSUS RIGHT.
[05:56] KEEPING THE SPIRIT OF POSITIVITY
[05:58] AND SOLUTIONS WE CAN FIX IT,
[06:00] RIGHT?
[06:00] HARD FACTS ON VIOLENT CRIME IS
[06:02] WORTH REMEMBERING THIS.
[06:03] THE VAST MAJORITY OF CRIMES ARE
[06:05] COMMITTED BY A TINY, TINY, TINY
[06:07] NUMBER OF PEOPLE AND EVEN IF YOU
[06:09] LOOK AT THE LOCATIONS OF THE
[06:10] CRIMES IN A CITY, OVER 50% OF
[06:13] CRIMES ARE COMMITTED IN A 5% OR
[06:15] LESS LOCATION IN A CITY.
[06:16] SO THE FACT OF THE MATTER IS WE
[06:19] KNOW HOW TO SOLVE THIS PRESAGS
[06:21] POLICING GETS THIS DONE.
[06:22] MOST OF US AGREE.
[06:23] THE FACT THAT THE DEMOCRATIC
[06:25] PARTY IS HELD HOSTAGE TO A TINY
[06:28] FRINGE OF THE COUNTRY OF THEIR
[06:29] BASE IS A SHAME BUT IT IS UP TO
[06:32] OUR SIDE TO LEAD.
[06:34] >> Harris: POLICY IS COMING FROM
[06:35] ONE SIDE, YOUR SIDE, THE
[06:37] REPUBLICANS AND THE PRESIDENT.
[06:39] JUST ARGUING AND A WHOLE LOT OF
[06:41] NAME CALLING AND SOMETIMES
[06:43] VIOLENCE FROM
