Steve Witkoff's Role as Trump's Middle East Envoy

Steve Witkoff has served as President Trump's envoy on some of the administration's highest-profile foreign policy efforts, most notably securing a hostage-release agreement and ceasefire framework with Hamas that Trump announced before he had even been sworn in for his second term. Newt Gingrich cited Witkoff's presence alongside Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor Michael Waltz at peace talks held in Saudi Arabia as evidence of how quickly and comprehensively the administration moved on foreign policy compared to prior transitions. Trump has credited Witkoff directly and repeatedly for the hostage negotiations, at one point noting that dozens of hostages were recovered on his watch. Away from formal diplomacy, Witkoff also surfaces as a personal friend of Trump's: during a White House renovation tour with Laura Ingraham, Trump invoked Witkoff, a former real-estate executive, as someone who could vouch for his own building expertise, a small but genuine window into the informal relationship behind the more consequential diplomatic partnership.
