Benny Johnson Reveals Tyler Robinson's Defense Team Admits He Killed Charlie Kirk

Benny Johnson breaks down the shocking 41-page defense filing in the Tyler Robinson murder case that admits Robinson was on campus, carried a rifle, and shot Charlie Kirk from the Losee Building rooftop. Robinson's own lawyers are no longer arguing innocence but instead pleading for mercy to avoid the death penalty. Johnson, who attended the pre-trial with Erika Kirk and faced intense backlash for reporting what he saw in the courtroom, explains how the defense's admission vindicates everything he reported about the prosecution's evidence. The filing contradicts months of conspiracy theories and confirms the surveillance footage, witness testimony, and physical evidence all point to Robinson's guilt. Johnson argues this represents a complete collapse of the defense's case and predicts Robinson may soon seek a plea deal to avoid execution.

Defense Filing Admits Robinson Was the Shooter

Benny Johnson reveals that Tyler Robinson's defense team has filed a 41-page brief with the court that fundamentally admits Robinson killed Charlie Kirk. Johnson, who worked alongside Kirk for nearly 10 years and MC'd his wedding to Erika, attended the pre-trial in Utah and faced severe criticism for reporting what he witnessed in the courthouse. The new defense filing vindicates everything Johnson reported about the prosecution's evidence.

The defense document explicitly states that surveillance footage shows "Mr. Robinson" on campus that day, walking through stairwells with "a gait impaired by something long in his pant leg" which the defense acknowledges was "reasonable inference from the evidence provided that it was a fully assembled rifle." The filing describes Robinson crossing the Losee Building rooftop, taking a prone position, and firing the shot that killed Kirk.

What the Defense Filing Reveals

Rather than arguing Robinson's innocence or presenting alternative theories about Kirk's death, the 41-page filing focuses entirely on avoiding the death penalty. The defense team writes: "Mr. Kirk was struck by a projectile in the left side of his neck and his injury resulted in death." They describe the surveillance footage as "the best evidence of the events of September 10th from the Utah Valley campus."

The filing details Robinson's movements on the rooftop: "The shooter has been seen going over the railing separating the walkway from the Losee roof. The figure drops off the roof and begins to crawl to the western ledge of the roof going both south and west. The shooter reaches the edge of the roof although the additional body positioning on the ground is visible until approximately 12:22. The figure gets up and then begins running to the northwest corner of the roof and drops off the Losee building to the ground."

According to the defense, Robinson was "in the position of the southwest corner of the Losee rooftop for approximately 35 to 44 seconds" with "a clear line of sight between the tent and the Losee rooftop."

Defense Strategy: Mercy, Not Innocence

The defense's entire strategy centers on arguing that Robinson should not face the death penalty because he only intended to kill Charlie Kirk and did not knowingly create a great risk to others. They argue that Robinson "fired one shot, intended to just hit Charlie and he hit Charlie. Nobody else was hit." The defense claims this demonstrates Robinson did not intend to harm anyone else, despite the shooting occurring at a crowded public event.

The filing contests various aggravating factors that could warrant the death penalty, including arguments about whether Robinson knew children under 14 were present at the event. The defense argues prosecutors "cannot prove Tyler Robinson knew that they were there" because "Robinson was 400 feet away and spent only 44 seconds positioned on the rooftop before the shot."

Lance Twiggs Testimony Acknowledged

Johnson highlights that the defense filing addresses the devastating testimony of Lance Twiggs, who reportedly testified that Robinson appeared in surveillance footage and confessed his involvement. According to Johnson, Twiggs testified that Robinson "was crying in my arms saying he was really sad that he did it." The defense's only counter to this witness testimony is a single page arguing that Twiggs' testimony was "improper."

The filing also addresses text messages between Robinson and Twiggs where Robinson stated, "I'm going to turn myself in." When Twiggs asked if Robinson would avoid prison, Robinson replied, "I highly doubt it."

Political Motivation and Other Evidence

The defense filing acknowledges that Robinson made statements saying "he had a chance to take out Charlie Kirk" and that "he had had enough of his hatred." However, the defense argues this doesn't prove political motivation because Robinson "didn't provide an exact list, an itemized list of exactly why he hated Charlie Kirk."

Regarding other physical evidence, the defense attacked the significance of shooting targets recovered from Robinson's apartment, arguing "the state supposedly cannot establish when the targets were shot, what firearms were used, or whether Robinson personally fired every shot." They also dismissed the screwdriver found on the roof, arguing "its existence doesn't mean that Robinson was there to assemble anything."

Comparison to Bryan Kohberger Case

Johnson draws parallels between Robinson's defense strategy and the Bryan Kohberger case in Idaho. He notes that Robinson's team has "spent a year running the Bryan Kohberger playbook: motion after motion, challenge after challenge, fight the death penalty, drag the case out as long as possible." Johnson predicts Robinson's lawyers may seek a plea deal for life without parole rather than risk the death penalty at trial.

Johnson emphasizes there is "so much more empirical evidence that connects Tyler Robinson to this murder than anything in the Bryan Kohberger case," suggesting a conviction is virtually certain and the defense knows it.

Vindication After Months of Backlash

Johnson reports facing intense criticism from what he calls "the Charlie Kirk murder industrial complex" for accurately reporting what happened in the courthouse. He sat with Erika Kirk at the pre-trial and described watching the evidence presentation while "the Kirks wept together, Charlie's mother, father, and wife" as "Tyler Robinson with his pale, sallow, sunken, emaciated self sat staring at the floor, not even a hint of remorse."

Johnson criticizes those who promoted alternative theories about Kirk's death, including claims about exploding microphones, federal agencies, or Robinson being a patsy. He notes that "professional lawyers, unlike dishonest podcasters, have ethical obligations to the bar that bar them from saying things that are not true." The defense filing contains none of the conspiracy theories that circulated for months.

What Happens Next

The court is currently deciding whether Robinson will face the death penalty. The defense has still not entered a plea, and final arguments aren't scheduled until September 1st. Johnson predicts the defense will ultimately seek a plea deal to avoid the death penalty, similar to the Kohberger case strategy.

Johnson concludes by stating: "Tyler Robinson killed Charlie Kirk. And he deserves the firing squad. Justice for Charlie."
