Biden Blames Gas Stations for High Fuel Prices as Bezos Calls Out White House Misdirection

As gas prices hit record highs ahead of the Fourth of July, President Biden directs his ire at gas station owners, demanding they lower prices immediately. His tweet claiming stations should reflect their costs draws sharp criticism from Jeff Bezos, who calls it either misdirection or a fundamental misunderstanding of market dynamics. Meanwhile, the White House defends Biden's plain-spoken approach, and Vice President Kamala Harris offers little substance on solutions. Political commentators dissect Biden's refusal to acknowledge his own energy policies, from shutting down the Keystone Pipeline to limiting permits, as major contributors to the crisis affecting everyday Americans.

Biden Takes Aim at Gas Stations

Record gas prices are putting a damper on Fourth of July travel plans across America. President Biden, instead of taking responsibility for the crisis, has found a new target: gas stations. In a tweet, Biden wrote, "My message to the companies running gas stations and setting prices at the pump is simple. This is a time of war and global peril. Bring down the price you are charging at the pump to reflect the cost you're paying for the product and do it now."

Bezos Pushes Back on Biden's Economics

Washington Post owner and billionaire businessman Jeff Bezos isn't buying the president's argument. Bezos tweeted in response, "Ouch. Inflation is far too important a problem for the White House to keep making statements like this. It is either straight up misdirection or deep misunderstanding of the basic market dynamics."

The White House quickly came to Biden's defense. A spokesperson stated, "Anybody that knows President Biden knows he's plain spoken, and he tells exactly what he's thinking, and in terms that everybody can understand. So I think we obviously take great exception to the idea that this is somehow misdirection. The President is speaking honestly with the American people about what he's trying to do to bring prices down. He was honest before the invasion, the fact that it would not be cost free, certainly not cost free to President Putin, but wouldn't be cost free to the American people to stand up for democracy, to stand up for Ukraine's ability to --"

China Weighs In With Praise for Biden

While Bezos blasts Biden, it's China that has Biden's back. China state media tweeted, "He's finally realized that capitalism is all about exploitation. He didn't believe this before." The fact that a communist nation is praising an American president's economic rhetoric has raised concerns among critics.

Biden's Energy Policy Record Under Scrutiny

Political commentators pointed out the glaring contradictions in Biden's position. President Biden likes to blame Putin for gas prices, and now he's blaming gas station owners. However, this is a president who on the campaign trail said he was going to put the fossil fuel industry out of business. On day one of his presidency, he shut down production of the Keystone Pipeline, and then he went on to limit permits around the country.

One panelist responded emphatically: "Yes, he does bear responsibility. It's insulting to all of us and to America. He's dishonest. He's not taking credit for his failures. He shut down the Keystone Pipeline. He has basically destroyed the economy because he sold his soul to become president to the progressive left. He's doubled down on punishing Americans at all costs. He's not suffering, but the American people are suffering. He put the American people last. He put the Democratic Party first. That's why we're suffering."

The Reality of Gas Price Dynamics

In Biden's message, he's asking as if gas station owners have the leeway to bring down prices, but the reality is that much of this has to do with crude oil prices. That's what sets the prices at the pump overall.

One commentator offered this perspective: "Let's just imagine for a moment that gas prices weren't already soaring before Ukraine and Russia and that whole debacle. Let's just pretend that was true, that was the case, for the moment. If this president was any bit of a leader whatsoever, what he would have done is listen, now we're facing this global issue, Ukraine, Russia, prices are going to go up, so I know I said I was going to shut down the Keystone Pipeline, I know I was going to put the fossil industry out of business, but what I'm going to do because I care about the American people is I'm going to reverse course for a while, I'm going to reopen the Keystone Pipeline because I'm going to be a true leader for the American people. He won't do that. He blames the airlines, the gas station owners. Pretty soon he will blame the farmers and ranch owners."

Another panelist noted that Biden is already blaming them, pointing to his comments about cattle and beef prices. "The guy tried to tell me what a great partner the Taliban is six months ago to tell me the Quick Trip is the reason I can't afford gas anymore. Jeff Bezos is right, this is an inflationary problem, not a gas problem. When you lose somebody who is in charge of your loudest advocates, you are doing something wrong."

Warning Signs from Communist Nations

The fact that China is applauding Biden and his policies raises serious red flags. One commentator explained: "It is embarrassing because of the Hunter Biden connection to China. When John Kirby goes on TV and says that Joe Biden is a plain spoken person -- everything that comes out of Biden's mouth is scripted by his teammates, by the teleprompter."

Another added a cultural reference: "There's a scene in Rush Hour Two where Chris Tucker looked at Jackie Chan and says nobody understands a word that's coming out of your mouth. That's Joe Biden being plain spoken. Come on."

The discussion turned to those who have fled communist regimes: "I think everybody that's immigrated to this country from nations like Cuba, Venezuela, when you start hearing China, a communist nation, praise our president, it makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up. When you talk to people who fled those countries like Cuba or Venezuela, what they will tell you it started with price controls. It started with the government saying private industry is your enemy. The government will solve your problems. Look around. Who is promising to solve our problems with more government? Joe Biden and Joe Biden's teleprompter."

Kamala Harris Offers Little Substance

Vice President Kamala Harris also weighed in on gas prices. In a public appearance, she stated: "What we need to do domestically, what we need to do to bring down the cost of gas, right? Right?"

The panel noted the Vice President's awkward delivery and apparent lack of preparedness. One commentator said: "You know what? The sad part about that, you see a person in the most powerful position in the world who was selected for identity politics, not qualified, not competent. She has a defense mechanism by laughing when she doesn't understand the issue at hand."

Another offered: "She looks like a prisoner of war. You know when they have to get in front of the camera and go they are feeding me really good. That's what she looks like. I believe it is because she's completely unprepared. Whether or not that's her fault or the Biden team's fault, I don't know. I'm not in the White House. I almost feel bad for her."

A different perspective emerged: "She was best when she was a bulldog in the Senate, sitting up there, grilling partisanly and on the attack mode, and I don't know if she's choosing not to do that for the Biden administration, or if they are not letting her do it, but by her not filling that role for the Biden administration, she's rendered ineffective, and we already see how ineffective the Biden team is at messaging. She should be out there attacking their opposition, letting Biden be that, you know, Uncle Joe figure he's supposed to be, and their communications team is the greatest failure since whatever the latest war is they've screwed up."

The Average American Pays the Price

The average American is really the one getting hurt by these policies because it's not like people are getting paid extra to keep up with these gas prices. One panelist observed: "It seems as though they don't care. When the American people hear them continuing to blame everybody but themselves and not doing anything to change course -- they could change course. They could do something. They could at least make the effort. But they're not. It's the finger pointing blame game, and that should be a slap in the face and insult to every American on both sides of the political divide because we all have to fill up. We all have to get groceries."

As Americans face filling up their tanks for over $100, the disconnect between the administration's messaging and the economic reality on the ground continues to widen. The question remains whether the White House will acknowledge its role in creating the conditions for these record prices, or continue to point fingers at gas stations, Putin, and market forces beyond their control.
